To think chilli for lunch and bolognese for tea is ok?

DH thinks too samey.

He took a container of bean chilli out of the freezer to take to work for lunch today to have with rice.

Dinner was bolognese with pasta and garlic bread.

He’s bloody moaned all evening that he’s eaten the same food for lunch and dinner and it’s somehow my fault. Despite dinner having been on the meal plan stuck to the fridge since Saturday which he could have read if he was really that bothered.

Plus - bean chilli with rice and bolognese with pasta aren’t that similar? The only ingredients in common are onions and tomatoes. He might have had more of a point if it was chilli with minced beef but it wasn’t.

Sounds great to me, I usually batch cook once a week and eat the same thing for every meal.

Atthebottomofthegarden · 22/04/2020 21:56

They’re a bit samey (though less so as the chilli was vegi) - however I would know better than to moan about it to someone who had cooked me a delicious meal...

Comefromaway · 22/04/2020 21:56

I agree its too samey but its his fault for not reading the meal plan.

Pukkatea · 22/04/2020 21:57

Heaven. Two of my favourites.

And no they aren't samey unless you're a rubbish cook, the flavour profiles and texture are completely different.

Couchbettato · 22/04/2020 21:58

Don't think any one in our house would object to chilli and Bolognese on the same day. They're our favourites!

Summercamping · 22/04/2020 21:58

God almighty, if I cook dinner and someone complains, they don't get cooked for again.

And if someone cooks for me, I say thank you very much. Clip on the ear from me to your dh

PersonaNonGarter · 22/04/2020 21:59

Standards are too high on this thread.

Right now, breakfast is in the vein of Nutella on Camembert, and lunch is whatever is left over. Dinner is a grazing event from 4pm til 8pm.

Ellie56 · 22/04/2020 22:02

Tell the ungrateful twat to make his own dinner tomorrow OP.

B0bbin · 22/04/2020 22:03

How dare he complain? Two delicious meals

tenlittlecygnets · 22/04/2020 22:09

@Herpesfreesince03 - i couldn’t eat Bolognese and chilli in the same week, let alone the same day

Really? What would happen??🙄🙄🙄

AdoptedBumpkin · 22/04/2020 22:10

If you are prepared to suffer the consequences, it's fine. Grin

RideaCockHorseOfCourse · 22/04/2020 22:12

I probably wouldn't have the both of them. However, he was the one who took the bean chilli out of the freezer for his lunch. He should've checked the meal planner.

tolerable · 22/04/2020 22:15

meal plan=blew my mind

PlanDeRaccordement · 22/04/2020 22:20

I can’t vote.
It is too same
But it’s his fault he had chili for lunch

steppemum · 22/04/2020 22:20

So, if I was cooking for myself or a group, no way would I do chilli and bolognese on the same day.

But that really isn't the issue. HE chose to take the chilli, when he could see that bolognese was for dinner.
Why is he complaining to you??

personally I think two cooked meals like that in one day is too much, one meal should be lighter, but he might need the calories etc

Malvinaa81 · 22/04/2020 22:21

When he's got no painkillers for his toothache, and no loo roll to wipe his dirty bottom, then he has a problem.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 22/04/2020 22:25

All the people saying it's too much seem to be assuming that a cooked meal is by definition heavier in calories than a salad or a sandwich. Not necessarily true. Depends on how it was made and how big the portion is.

Also, the OP explicitly said there was no beef in the chilli. Is it too much effort to read to the end of the post?

PurpleDaisies · 22/04/2020 22:26

You’re asking the wrong question.

Yes, it’s a bit samey. But it was his choice. You should be asking if your dh is being unreasonable to be pissed off with you for a decision he made. That’s the issue here.

Durgasarrow · 22/04/2020 22:27

He should eat a sandwich for lunch if he doesn't want an evening-type entree in the middle of the day, then.

Darbs76 · 22/04/2020 22:31

I don’t tend to eat 2 hot meals in a day but if I did nothing wrong with the two meals, ones a veggie option the other beef. Had it been 2 beef minces maybe so but he needs to get his apron on if not happy

TheRoyallingStones · 22/04/2020 22:32

Bean chilli with rice and beef bolognese with pasta aren’t particularly similar. Maybe if both had beef in

But even then it wouldn’t be your fault! He’s a grown man who can read the meal plan before he chooses what to have for his lunch and plan his lunch accordingly if he wishes. If he can’t be arsed to do that then he shouldn’t moan about a situation he’s responsible for to the person who’s just cooked him a lovely sounding meal!

ViciousJackdaw · 22/04/2020 22:33

Plenty of people are eating the same thing day in, day out at the moment. Tell him he should be bloody well grateful for not one but two hot meals in a day.

HaddawayandShite · 22/04/2020 22:34

No offence but you both sound incredibly boring. You did ask.
No she didn’t. Are you always so rude?

OP, you know what the solution is. Let the ungrateful man child fend for himself if he thinks your meal planning and cooking is so boring. Don’t let him think this attitude is acceptable.

Candyflosscookie · 22/04/2020 22:35

@popcat120 your point would be valid except ... OP clearly says in her OP it was bean chilli not meat in one. Duh.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 22/04/2020 22:37

Can no one read? The OP clearly explains it was veggie chilli.
