To think chilli for lunch and bolognese for tea is ok?

DH thinks too samey.

He took a container of bean chilli out of the freezer to take to work for lunch today to have with rice.

Dinner was bolognese with pasta and garlic bread.

He’s bloody moaned all evening that he’s eaten the same food for lunch and dinner and it’s somehow my fault. Despite dinner having been on the meal plan stuck to the fridge since Saturday which he could have read if he was really that bothered.

Plus - bean chilli with rice and bolognese with pasta aren’t that similar? The only ingredients in common are onions and tomatoes. He might have had more of a point if it was chilli with minced beef but it wasn’t.

Its personal preference really whether its too samey. For me I wouldnt have both in the same day

However as far as I can see it was your DHs choice to have both on the same day, therefore if he wasnt happy its his own stupid fault

Popcat120 · 22/04/2020 21:01

He's right.
Too much red meat in one day.
They are virtually the same meal.
Red meat is the worse to digest also... Just saying.

browzingss · 22/04/2020 21:01

This is the definition of a first world problemGrin

I think everyone has had strange meals during lockdown, repeating a meal for dinner isn’t that out of the ordinary considering. And as you say, it doesn’t even sound that similar if the Chilli was vegetarian and with rice

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 22/04/2020 21:02

In fact its completely irrelevent whether they were too samey or not. He chose his lunch knowing what was for dinner. He has no right to moan, and Im not sure reslly why you are asking if its samey or not. As if that justifies his behaviour

chocolatespiders · 22/04/2020 21:05

@Popcat120 I took it as the chilli was vege rather than meat.

NataliaOsipova · 22/04/2020 21:05

If you're cooking you can have whatever you want, if you're not cooking you eat what you get.

Absolutely.

Plus - it was bean chilli. Not even double mince. So he’s being totally U.

Twigletfairy · 22/04/2020 21:08

If they was both mince I would agree they would be quite samey.

Regardless, he picked his lunch knowing what was for dinner. Tomorrow he should cook his own dinner for being a moany prick

PurpleCrowbarWhereIsLangCleg · 22/04/2020 21:09

I wouldn't fancy that combo either, & because I generally take leftovers for lunch (fridge if there are any, or I freeze individual portions if loads), I could quite easily find myself with chilli for lunch & spag Bol for dinner.

But it would be my own stupid fault for not picking something for lunch that was going to clash with dinner, so he's a dimwit for not checking the meal planner.

Oh dear, how sad, never mind! He might look more closely next time?

peppermintcapsules · 22/04/2020 21:09

I would never cook for him again. He could sort his own shit out.

UponTheBlueGuitar · 22/04/2020 21:11

Does he have a desk job? That way of eating gets you fat quite fast.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 22/04/2020 21:11

What purple said - he could have made himself a toastie or a can of soup for tea if he was that bothered.

Oysterbabe · 22/04/2020 21:13

It would be too samey if both were mince but as it was bean only chilli I think it's fine.

Survivingchipandkippee · 22/04/2020 21:15

There are people going without food or relying on food banks. He needs to put things in perspective

SonjaMorgan · 22/04/2020 21:16

If my DH moaned about what I made for dinner I would throw his into the bin and let him make beans on toast.

Pickles89 · 22/04/2020 21:17

It is too samey to want deliberately, but he's the twerp who defrosted the chili!!

HermanTheWorm · 22/04/2020 21:20

You're both doing it wrong.

You make an epic quantity of chilli, and of rice.

What isn't eaten directly, gets plated up into enough decent sized portions to last for a few days if you consider there's three meals a day usually, per person.

At least this is how I do it. I fucking love chilli.

PurpleDaisies · 22/04/2020 21:22

Too much red meat in one day.

In a vegetarian chilli?

YappityYapYap · 22/04/2020 21:23

My 2 favourite meals to be honest so it wouldn't bother me! But wait, did you say bean chilli? How is that the same as bolognese? I prefer chilli con carne with minced beef

Purpleartichoke · 22/04/2020 21:23

Only in that it’s a lot of tomato, an ingredient I have to be careful about. It’s not your fault the meals landed at the same time and barring a sensitive stomach, I don’t see why he is complaining.

worriedmama16 · 22/04/2020 21:45

No offence but you both sound incredibly boring. You did ask.

midsomermurderess · 22/04/2020 21:45

It is quite samey, but somewhat graceless, in the circumstances, to complain. He could probably fix himself something else if he chose to. I think I'd suggest that.

Lynda07 · 22/04/2020 21:46

Your husband is moaning about nothing! Tell him to get a grip.

MogeatDog · 22/04/2020 21:48

Let your dh organise the food for a while, no need for an argument. I hope the comments were made in jest because otherwise it's a bit shitty.

BlueJava · 22/04/2020 21:54

Well I'm sure he can find himself something else next time can't he.
