I'm wondering if I'm spending more than necessary during the lockdown.

Anyone care to share what your grocery bills are weekly during the lockdown?

On average 200 - 250 per week. This is for me, DH and 3x teen boys.

You can knock about £20 off in beer if I was being more frugal Grin

I'm probably spending about £50 more than normal but actually saving money due to no lunches/meals out/takeaway coffees/travel costs etc...

Tempjob · 21/04/2020 19:01

We also are spending much more... suddenly it seems important for us all to be eating fish, veg and fruit lol

Plus we are eating more snacks, treats and drinking alcohol and I can't shop around as I normally do.

Spending around £200 ! a week for 2 adults and 2 children

Whatsername177 · 21/04/2020 19:01

We are a family of 4, I'm a vegetarian so often eat slightly differently to the rest of the family. I'm spending at least an extra £30 per week. Usually spend £60- £80 per week. Now £100 per week. We do eat well though.

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 21/04/2020 19:03

Usually about £350 a month. That’s two adults a ten year old and a dog. Including cleaning products, laundry stuff and occasional presents/undies/random book and other sundries.

This time it was £450 but I’d bought a few basket shops for other folks that can’t pay for it yet. Probably about £400 if you take that off.

Bessica1970 · 21/04/2020 19:04

About £180 (2 adults 2 children) including the stuff that the milkman brings. Probably a bit more than prior to lockdown - but we’re not paying school dinner money and work canteen lunches any more so we’re probably spending less overall (plus not impulse buying clothes and non-essentials in the supermarket)

EnglishGirlApproximately · 21/04/2020 19:05

Family of 3, we usually spend around £350 a month but this month over £500 so far. DP is shopping as I have underlying health conditions and he buys what's on the list but in silly quantities and also buys branded stuff where I go for shop brands. He doesn't check dates either but that's another thread Hmm

Bessica1970 · 21/04/2020 19:05

I’ve found we’re throwing much less food away though (almost none) and we’re eating more fruit and less chocolate

livingthegoodlife · 21/04/2020 19:06

Pre-corona about £75 a week. Now over £100 a week.

TriangleBingoBongo · 21/04/2020 19:06

Pre corona around 80-100 per week. Atm we’re at £141 per week. I’ve been keeping a spreadsheet as can’t quite believe it. I can’t decide if it’s less because we’re never eating out, no takeaway coffee etc and it’s all at home or actually more.

Boogiewoogietoo · 21/04/2020 19:07

£200 a week, there no longer seem to be offers available.

PawPatrolMakesMeDrink · 21/04/2020 19:08

We’re spending slightly more than usual, we only eat meat once a week so don’t have too much to spend on that. But we’ve definitely been spending more on fruit, cheese, bread and milk, probably an extra £10 a week. I did the big shop today at aldi and I was £42, that’s do myself, DP and DS.

SushiGo · 21/04/2020 19:08

Loads more. We were consistently coming in at around £80pw with careful meal planning. It's more like £150 now!

Limited choices of what to buy/where from, especially if in isolation, buying more alcohol and more likely to buy other treats eg magazines, craft stuff for the kids at the same time as shopping.

Plus only being able to go one way around the supermarket makes it hard to compare prices.

FizzyPink · 21/04/2020 19:09

God so much more since lockdown! The last 3 weeks have been £160, £130 and £80. That is a lot of buying wine/prosecco and nicer food than we would normally have though. For example I’d never usually buy my vegan almond magnums at £3.50 for 3 but now I think why not, times are tough enough!

FizzyPink · 21/04/2020 19:10

That’s for 2 adults only as well. However I have had to also buy things like toiletries, vitamins, medication etc that I’d normally buy elsewhere so maybe it’s not too bad.

legalseagull · 21/04/2020 19:12

Gone from £80 pre C to £120 now. Two adults and two toddlers. I figure we're still actually better off, as pre C the £80 shop would probably only cover four full days and the other three we might have lunch out or a takeaway in the evening.

Redredwine99 · 21/04/2020 19:14

I’ve gone from around £100 pw to £120-£130 pw 2 adults 2 children

Redazzy · 21/04/2020 19:14

We are a family of 2 adults, 2 teens and a dog. We all have big appetites and we (adults) drink most nights. I'm ashamed to say, I have no true idea of what we spent before lockdown as the 'pop to the supermarket' habit was strong with us! For lockdown, I am shopping only once a week and spending around £130 each time. I shop in Aldi for the majority and Tesco for the bits that aren't available at Aldi. Maybe it's because life is so small at the moment but shopping like this has given me great pleasure. I always ask the family before I go if there is anything particular they need and I feel like a conquering hero when I return with my stash.

Linguaphile · 21/04/2020 19:15

Around 150/week for 2 adults and 3 children.

littlepeas · 21/04/2020 19:21

About £1000 a month - 2 adults, 3 pre-teens and a big dog. Dh and I are vegan and the kids are pescatarian- we don’t drink. I think vegan is quite an expensive diet, but we did spend a similar amount when we were all pescatarian, so it could just be feeding a fairly big family and a big dog!

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 21/04/2020 19:21

£200+ per week. 5 adults at home and one child. And one cat. Spent £75 at the butcher today (Inc a £25 fruit/veg box). Morrisons online list is at £140. This is because I'm not shopping at Aldi or going to 3 different places to get bargains. There are few decent supermarket discounts either. Plus DH has had pay cut so no money saved. I envy people who are coming out of this in profit.

judemom · 21/04/2020 19:22

I have been spending four times the usual amount!!! I need to stop, looks like everyone else is doing pretty good.

MistyIsland · 21/04/2020 19:22

2 x adults
2 x primary school kids

Around £150/170 a week. that’s not including pet food as I order that separately online from zooplus

I have to admit when I’m at work I only eat one meal a day (dinner) and Dh eats at work (has a cheap canteen) but now I’m feeding us all 3 meals a day...plus snacks for the kids.

Also I’ve just paid £13 for 2 x plain flour 2 x self raising and 2 x bread flour plus 1kg of apples and 1kg of pears.

Fairylillie · 21/04/2020 19:23

£100.00 per week for two adults, a four year old and a baby. Before corona it was less because there used to be lots of offers and reductions and at the moment it's hard to get own brand stuff and branded items are more money.

CanIbesomeoneelse · 21/04/2020 19:23

Non meat eaters - weekly shop gone up to £120 from about £70/80. An extra £20 in the shop here and there for bread/milk/snacks has remained the same.

CanIbesomeoneelse · 21/04/2020 19:24

But there’s nothing else to spend money on at the moment so why not buy the nice food?!
