To ask what your weekly or monthly groceries cost?

I'm wondering if I'm spending more than necessary during the lockdown.

Anyone care to share what your grocery bills are weekly during the lockdown?

Its also tricky because our food budget could feed another mouth if needed. We often have extra portions which we freeze for another time. I agree that it depends on what exactly you are eating.
Eating vast amount of berries is expensive (although they can be pretty cheap from Aldi/lidl you just need to eat them quickly) and with meat it depends on what kind of cuts you eat. When ordering my shopping this week I wanted a joint to roast (normally pork/gammon) but they were too expensive so I scrapped that idea. Since reading this thread I've gone through and pulled off all the extras which I normally wouldn't buy in a weekly shop which made a big difference (I'd pick them up as and when we wanted them pre lockdown).

We spend around £100 p/wk online at either Morrisons, Asda, or Iceland - which one depends on who has delivery slots available on the day we need it.

£9 p/wk to the milkman.

£20 p/wk for a fruit and veg box delivered to the door.

Roughly £20 p/wk for same day deliveries from the local co-op of whatever we've run out of or whatever we need extra. They don't have a minimum order/quantity and it comes in handy like yesterday when we ran out of bread and the toddler tipped out a bottle of shampoo while washing her dollies.

Brogley · 23/04/2020 18:05

That's for two adults and four DC.

TriangleBingoBongo · 23/04/2020 21:06

OP-I’m intrigued as to what you base your meals on if not rice, pasta etc?

Lippy1234 · 23/04/2020 21:08

OP have you tried frozen berries for smoothies? That saves quite a bit of money. Take them out of the freezer and hour before blending them and they don’t taste that different to fresh.

Caplin · 23/04/2020 21:19

We are about £20-30 more a week (£130). Two adults, two kids under 10, two cats. But we cook from scratch most days now, we don’t eat out, we don’t get ready meals. So in all we are saving money. Kids are stunned by this ‘dinner at the table every night’ thing. One of the best bits of lockdown!

@Lippy1234

I have not tried frozen fruits! I will though! Are they less expensive than fresh?

We've been spending atleast £120 a week, mostly due to the fact that we have switched completely to Tesco deliveries or click and collect and not going instore to Aldi as DS is vulnerable so we have to be very careful with where we are going.

Sceptre86 · 23/04/2020 21:38

£50 a week including delivery costs. It is about the same as we would normally spend over the course of a month. Normally we would spend about £70 one week and then £30 the next. We are shopping for two adults and two toddlers.

Lippy1234 · 23/04/2020 21:43

judemom yes they are. Also after lockdown check out your local fruit veg stall if you have one. The prices are so good compared to supermarkets. Just before lockdown I got so many blueberries, raspberries and strawberries for £4.

NeverForgetYourDreams · 23/04/2020 21:48

Usually £70-100 a week
Now £150 a week but that now includes lunch for the three of us plus usually we would have a take away one night a week which would be approx £30 but now it's another home cooked meal on the food shop

Not paying for child's school lunches so that offsets £15 a week. And our lunches are probably £30 a week so I can see where it's added on!

airforsharon · 23/04/2020 22:00

I average around £60 pw. Household is me, 3 dcs, 3 dogs, 2 cats. The dog food i buy separately from Fetch, approx £25 pm.
I rarely drink and we're all vegetarian - i cook mainly from scratch and we never have take-aways.

I'm spending a little less than usual as i'm making a really conscious effort to be organised. I'm in the 'vulnerable' group for health reasons so avoiding going to the market & supermarket. A friend picks me up a few bits once a week and i've had 2 online deliveries in the past 6 weeks.
