I would be desperate to get back after all this 🤣🤣

Port1aCastis · 21/04/2020 18:14

Crikey we are going to be facing the biggest economic downturn in history and the entitled are wanting more from the coffers, my business has just gone under so no I will not sign a dim petition when the forecast for unemployment is in the millions

puds11 · 21/04/2020 18:18

I’m currently on MAT leave and won’t be signing it. Yes it’s going to be hard if we can’t do a gradual introduction for DD at nursery but I really don’t need an additional 3 months to socialise her Hmm Maybe two weeks of flexible working which I’m sure my company will agree too!

PicsInRed · 21/04/2020 18:19

That man is a complete thicky if he thinks maternity leave is for socialising and hanging out. It's for the woman to physically recover from birth whilst bonding with baby.

It's not a fucking jolly, mate.

slartibarti · 21/04/2020 18:20

God that's embarassing, talk about priorities!

Jaxhog · 21/04/2020 18:21

While I'm gratified by the generosity of some people during these times, I'm also horrified at the amount of selfishness and greed of some people. It's as if this is their chance to get something for free while the government has extended its helping hand to those truly in need.

This is so inessential compared to PPE for nurses.

CauliflowerBalti · 21/04/2020 18:21

Utter tripe. Kids only need stimulus from their primary caregiver until they're something like 3.

LetTheCabbagesDie · 21/04/2020 18:24

and now everything has been cancelled

YANBU. It's ridiculous.

MumofBees · 21/04/2020 18:30

Just to try and help people see this from the other perspective...

Some babies will basically never have been around anyone but there parents, and then will be thrust into nursery as soon as they open as the primary parent needs to return to work. Which seems a bit cruel.

Also, how can you find a nursery to send your baby to once they open, as they aren't open now? Genuine question, how do you choose a suitable nursery when they arent open and you cant go to them?

Not to mention that yes, your baby is missing out on being slowly introduced to the world. This has never happened before so no one has any idea what impact this will have on babies and children.

I know it isn't the most pressing issue, but it is a concern. Not everyone is just trying to get stuff for free.

MsTSwift · 21/04/2020 18:33

Sorry still not seeing it. This is really embarrassing cringe for the petition starters

opticaldelusion · 21/04/2020 18:34

All petitions to parliament are pointless. They rarely get debated and even if they do, they've never once changed or influenced policy. They're just a sop to the electorate to think they have some sort of say.

If people understood how difficult it is to actually change the law - almost all bills fail unless they're government ones - then they'd save their energy.

JellyfishandShells · 21/04/2020 18:42

I loved baby groups of various types with my first and found them a great way to make local friends with the same specific interests at the time - but it was for my benefit, not directly for the baby.

Mylittlepea · 21/04/2020 18:54

FFS I’ve seen it all now.

Sign mine instead, much more sensible.

It's ridiculous.

rwalker · 21/04/2020 18:56

Typical of they grabby society we have today

DonnaDarko · 21/04/2020 18:58

Lol there's a thread for this now, someone asking for signatures

PineappleDanish · 21/04/2020 18:58

For those who don't want to click, it says

"Extend maternity leave by 3 months with pay in light of COVID-19
In light of the recent outbreak and lockdow, those on maternity leave should be given 3 extra months paid leave, at least. This time is for bonding and social engaging with other patents and babies through baby groups which are vital for development and now everything has been cancelled."

Any numpty can start a petition on any subject which is obvious.

Whenwillthisbeover · 21/04/2020 18:59

I love yours @mylittlepea LS16 - waves from Otley Road.

viques · 21/04/2020 19:03

These 21st century kids are going to be dragged up and babysat brought up with screens anyway , so surely the sooner they are introduced to the world via their baby's first iPad the better? And in a virtual mums and babies group there will be no snippy nastiness about X's mum who never offers to put out snacks or tidy up the musical instruments but is always " sorry, couldn't find a parking space" or "oops, got to dash" .

LockedDownNOut · 21/04/2020 19:04

Baby Groups? But but...I had my babies 16yrs ago and they never went to any group, no one told me they were VITAL to development Shock..😭😭I must be compensated.

MinkowskisButterfly · 21/04/2020 19:06

Really?! How bloody ridiculous! I can't believe how many people have signed it.

Londongirl03 · 21/04/2020 19:06

I’m on maternity with my 9 month old and think this is crazy!!!

Peppafrig · 21/04/2020 19:07

The only people that are signing it will be twats on maternity who want it extended . Cause they are selfish and don't want to work. Basically a three month holiday they want .

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 21/04/2020 19:08

Ffs. If coronavirus doesn’t kill humankind, stupidity will.

redwinefine · 21/04/2020 19:08

I'm currently on maternity leave and just saw this on facebook. Absolutely mental. I do feel like I've lost part of my maternity leave due to this but more because I can't go out, etc. Doesn't bother me to the extent that I would sign anything, would even WANT 3 more months to do this. The whole bonding thing can only happen at these groups is pure crap.
