Saving Baby Teeth

ToothFairyOrScary · 20/04/2020 21:16

DD16 was talking about her baby teeth and I have just given her them all back, each wrapped up labeled with the date lost.

She was pleased but has asked if it is normal to save them, and I honestly don't know...

YABU - no not normal at all, what were you thinking of woman!

YANBU - that's a perfectly reasonable and ordinary thing to do, nothing weird to see here!

(Have name changed so if DD sees this won't find my posting history)

No! Surely the tooth fairy takes the teeth away ? 😉

Yesmate · 20/04/2020 21:18

Gross 🤮

FriedasCarLoad · 20/04/2020 21:18

I mean it’s very sweet, but... unusual!

Bumblebee6789 · 20/04/2020 21:20

Lol I have my kids’ saved in a drawer. They think it’s weird but I dont care !

bridgetreilly · 20/04/2020 21:21

It's really grim.

jmh740 · 20/04/2020 21:22

I have 3 children 25, 13 and 10 I still have all their baby teeth.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 20/04/2020 21:23

Not unusual to save them. You need to make her a beautiful necklace www.etsy.com/uk/listing/616242420/human-teeth-necklace-goth-halloween

cushioncovers · 20/04/2020 21:24

Yep I've saved some of my dc teeth, as well as their umbilical clips still with gunk on and their hospital wristbands when they were born. 🤷🏻‍♀️😁

Chrisinthemorning · 20/04/2020 21:24

My mum has mine, I’m 43. I have DS’s.
Normal imo.

Crumb2Everywhere · 20/04/2020 21:24

I saved my dc’s but shoved them in my jewellery box after each fairy delivery. Now got a jumbled macabre mess with all dc’s muddled up. Wish Id got something like the above.Grin

My daughter has lost 8 now, 7 of them reside in my bedside cabinet in those little dinner money envelopes dated, along with the letter she wrote to the tooth fairy. The tooth fairy gave her money and her tooth back to keep when she lost her 1st one.
Somewhere in the attic I still have some of mine in a box.

Crabbo · 20/04/2020 21:28

Mine haven’t started falling out yet as the oldest is only 4 but I still have my dogs teeth from when he was a puppy so there’s no way I’m not saving the kids Grin

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 20/04/2020 21:31

My DM saved hair from my first hair cut and I've known a few people to do that but never heard of teeth.

Tunnocks34 · 20/04/2020 21:33

Gross. First one on, no need for more. When my husband and I moved in together MIL gave him a sandwich bag of all his old baby teeth and it was rank.

Bargainhuntbore · 20/04/2020 21:33

We all do it! Bit creepy but its what mums do!

Whenmy nan died, I found an envelope with a lock of my hair in it. It was ginger, and i showed it to my DD who has ginger hair and she was repulsed that id done such a thing - but it was mine and she didn’t believe we had the same colour hair as im now a brunette.

Outtedagain · 20/04/2020 21:35

I don’t think it’s grim at all. I have loads but they become brittle and break eventually.

lurker101 · 20/04/2020 21:47

My mum kept mine and my sisters alongside locks of our hair - I think there were even boxes from the jewellers for it. Might be an Irish thing?

Sassypants82 · 20/04/2020 21:49

You should really have one of these made.

I saved my Ds’s . I have them in a box with no idea what to do with them.

Meredithgrey1 · 20/04/2020 21:52

My mum has all of ours but I very much doubt I'll keep DD's... (she's only 10 months so I've got a while before it comes up).

Elouera · 20/04/2020 21:55

Mum has mine, along with a lock of baby hair and my umbilical clamp. I'm early 40's. They'd all contain DNA, so who knows, might be useful in years to come for some type of cloning/growing an organ for myself?

PlinkiePlonk · 20/04/2020 21:57

That’s so weird. Lovely but weird.

DamnYouAutocucumber · 20/04/2020 21:59

My mum kept mine and my sisters, but forgot which tin contained whose teeth. I assume she binned them all when they downsized, as I've not been presented with them or heard any more about it!

I have binned my DC teeth as soon as the tooth fairy has paid for them. DS2 swallowed one, so it was already gone for good. There are a couple I've not managed to find during the night, so I've left money and hoped they don't turn up at a moment which would make the tooth fairy look bad. Reality is they've probably been hoovered.

I'm generally sentimental and don't like getting rid of stuff, but I'm a bit phobic about anything relating to teeth falling out, so they need to go.

PeraltasWife · 20/04/2020 22:01

I've saved all my kids and my mum saved mine and my siblings. When I think about it it probably is a bit weird but has always been a thing in my family so will continue to do it. Though I did read something a few years back about companies that will store your childs baby teeth so if they later need any stem cell treatment it can be extracted and grown from the tooth. So maybe not so strange to keep them after all.

Twigletfairy · 20/04/2020 22:04

I plan to keep my children's. There is logic behind it too, you can harvest stem cells from baby teeth.
