Does it irritate your gag reflex? I really want to get it done but I throw up even brushing my teeth sometimes and worry having the bar in my mouth will make me wretchy !

Nope not at all and I have a very strong gag reflex. Go for it!

Chiyo666 · 19/04/2020 14:56

Ah awesome! How much did it hurt? I’m such a pussy with needles. My friends had to hold me down when I had my nose done Biscuit

Nope, no issue with gag reflex and it didn't hurt much. I do have a high pain threshold though, so maybe take more advice on that one Wink

PseudoQuim · 19/04/2020 15:01

Ah, just re-read that you thought a nose piercing was bad. It might not be for you then. If you needed to be held down for the nose you might not be able to go through with a tongue piercing.

CakeItOrLeave · 19/04/2020 15:01

Had tongue pierced for 5 years, I originally had a double piercing so the first hole wasn’t too bad, the second one killed. Your tongue swells up loads and you will have a long bar in to accommodate for the swelling- that bad is annoying. For the first 2 weeks I lived on mashed potatoes, soup and very soft noodles; so take into account you’re diet will probably need to change for a short while. Pain wise the piercing was 6/10, nose was about a 3/10 for me.

CakeItOrLeave · 19/04/2020 15:02

That bar*....

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 19/04/2020 15:04

Why would you do such a dreadful thing?

19lottie82 · 19/04/2020 15:04

I didn’t think the piercing hurt at all, but shortly after it started to swell and hurt a lot. I couldn’t eat solids for 4 days afterwards.

ChateauMyself · 19/04/2020 15:05

No pain during the piercing but my tongue swelled up after (which is why the first bar they put in will be long) and I found it difficult to eat and it was very sore for a few days afterwards.

PseudoQuim · 19/04/2020 15:06

I ate normal food the same evening. My friend had told me to get ice cream in as that was all she could eat after she had hers done, but I was fine, so it must depend on the person.

Chiyo666 · 19/04/2020 15:07

I didn’t think the nose piercing hurt at all, sorry I worded it badly. It’s the actual needle that scares me haha. Pain wise I’m fairly tolerant. Tattoos don’t bother my though for some reason, I guess because you can’t see the needle?

I kept mine in for 6 months as I had to take it out for work. Also, I bit down on it a couple of times and it scared me as you can crack your teeth.

The perching itself was painless but the first two weeks were hell. I’ve had a lot of piercings and it was by far the the most painful overall just due to the swelling after.

Gitfeatures · 19/04/2020 15:10

The actual piercing was the easy bit. The swelling afterwards was a dreadful, I didn't feel like my tongue was mine. Once the swelling starts to go down the long barbell becomes troublesome as it's constantly moving and I nearly cracked my teeth after biting down on it more than once. After having it changed to a shorter bar it was fine. Barely notice it these days.

NoLongerAnEasyTarget · 19/04/2020 15:15

Pain wasn't too bad. Tongue swelled up a lot afterwards, filled my mouth, and I lived on ice cream for a while.

No issues with gag reflex as it's all quite near the front, and to pierce they pulled my tongue out of my mouth with a clamp rather than going into my mouth to do it.
But overtime I did accidentally bite down on the jewelry and have permanently damaged a couple of teeth. Cracked them right through and cracked off a lot of enamel.

Teacup34 · 19/04/2020 15:35

I found the piercing painless but it really hurt after it also broke a few of my teeth I don't know why I ever did it, makes me shudder now. I would also say it was the worst piercing I had done and I had a few!! Nose, belly button, eyebrow, ears 🤪.

PennyArrowBar · 19/04/2020 18:30

It didn't hurt me but it was an odd sensation having it pierced more due to the clamps and the instinct to pull my tongue back in. First week with the swelling and lisp was rough but other than that it was fine and I had it in for ten years.

RubbishQueen · 19/04/2020 18:33

Do not eat a tikka slice afterwards. Fucking stupid idea.

PawPawNoodle · 19/04/2020 18:39

Everyone is different and reacts to piercings differently. For me, it was relatively painless (my nose remains my most painful piercing), didn't have much swelling and ate fish and chips a couple of hours later. Doesn't affect my gag reflex at all.

Minimamame · 19/04/2020 18:39

No pain getting it done for me. The guy who did it told me to go straight to McDonald’s (around the corner) and get a cup full of ice. I sucked on ice for a couple of hours so had no swelling.

Minimamame · 19/04/2020 18:40

Sorry I meant to say no gagging for me at all either.

LongPauseNoReply · 19/04/2020 18:43

It didn't hurt, no issue with gag reflex despite swollen tongue and then a large bar for a few days.

However I took it out because it destroyed my teeth. They chipped and I cracked one accidentally biting the ball. Don't do it OP!

MarieQueenofScots · 19/04/2020 18:45

No pain getting it done - Completely numb tongue. Back eating “normal” food within 48 hours.

Changed the bar to a smaller one after 6 weeks.

Had mine 10 years and no teeth damage Smile

jannika · 19/04/2020 18:59

Have had mine done 16 years and no problems with gag reflex and no damage to teeth. I barely notice it these days. On the off occasion I take it out briefly my mouth feels really weird though! Pain wise I did find it pretty painful to get done, both the clamp and the actual piercing. It swelled up for days and could only eat soft food.

The only issue I've ever had is I once swallowed the whole bar after the ball fell off.
