'Foodstuffs' and other words too awful to mention.

Some words just really make me shudder. Also, 'meal' and 'helping' as in 'another helping of broccoli'. Noooo

OP posts:
MaeveTheRave1 · 18/04/2020 21:30

Curate
Jammies
Brekkie

rabbitsnose · 18/04/2020 21:30

Why oh why could it not have been 'stay AT home'

MidiMitch · 18/04/2020 21:30

Pee and toilet/loo. I always go to to the bathroom. (May be that I am the weird one???)

Sux2buthen · 18/04/2020 21:31

Oh yes, 'mental load' is a real buzzword of the moment.

rabbitsnose · 18/04/2020 21:31

Mealier

'Delish' in any context. It makes me feel horrible.

ShowOfHands · 18/04/2020 21:33

I hate popping. My mother, when explaining about periods, said if wanting to swim you could just "pop a tampon in". I nearly vomited.

Food descriptions are awful. Lashings and spreads and morsels and crumbs. Or abbreviations like spag bol and jacket pots. Picky bits and picky tea can get lost too.

And affected descriptions. I just grabbed a pregnancy test. I threw on some jeans. NO

Mawbags · 18/04/2020 21:34

Meal makes me think of pigs scuffling about for some swill.

My mum uses it and it makes me recoil.
And...,do... as in going to a “do”

Samtsirch · 18/04/2020 21:34

Colourways
As in “ we stock this skirt in four colourways “
It’s just colours !

isabellerossignol · 18/04/2020 21:34

Someone else mentioned it too but I also can't be doing with the word beverage.

ShowOfHands · 18/04/2020 21:34

And yum and nom. STOP. You are not 3.

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 18/04/2020 21:35

My DP says 'just going to pop in the shower' or 'a quick pop to the shops'
Really not a fan of a pop. Gusset makes me cringe, sounds damp and slimy. And when he calls his penis odd names, todger, willybob or little chucky. I could quite happily castrate him with a couple of house bricks.

Toinfinityandbeyonce · 18/04/2020 21:35

My dsis says about us going out for a nosh up. I hate it, it makes me irrationally ragey and I have asked her not to use it.
She stopped for a while but is now saying it again.
Also DH will ask what we’re having for tea, meaning dinner.

Lastly, when a pregnancy is announced as ‘we’re pregnant’.

ilovesooty · 18/04/2020 21:36

Bits.

Everyone is "shopping for bits" or "picking up some bits".

ScarfLadysBag · 18/04/2020 21:36

I suggested husby to DH last night. It was vetoed, along with hubby, husbandio, hubbles and hubs.

I agree about 'lashings of' and YES to whoever said it's Enid Blyton-ish. That's exactly it. It makes me feel all peculiar.

I'm a popper, to my shame. I sometimes pop to places but I never pop something into the oven. I have some standards.

TubereuseNordlys · 18/04/2020 21:37

Belly.

I hate it, don't know why, it just makes me feel weirdly uncomfortable.

UnderTheIroningBoard · 18/04/2020 21:39

I only dislike meal in the context of "we are going out for a meal". It makes me irrationally annoyed. I much prefer "Going out for lunch/dinner"

I also hate "My bad". Fuck off and just say sorry!

rabbitstooth · 18/04/2020 21:39

Yeah belly is horrendous.

My dear friend is always yumming, and boobing and cheering me on 'well done mummy' love the sentiment but hate the delivery. Would never say anything though

UnderTheIroningBoard · 18/04/2020 21:41

Why oh why could it not have been 'stay AT home

This. "Stay Home" sounds so American and just wrong. (I suppose it doesn't matter as long as people are doing it, though!)

cacaca · 18/04/2020 21:41

Naice - it’s pathetic.

rabbitstooth · 18/04/2020 21:41

Also 'piece' when talking about work, usually in a corporation.

The global HR Strategy piece. FUCK RIGHT OFF

BeardieWeirdie · 18/04/2020 21:42

Gifted. Just fuck off now.
And “medalled” at the Olympics - I realise this is only once every four years but still - how hard is it to say someone won a medal rather than they medalled?

Pinksunday1210 · 18/04/2020 21:43

Being called mama by adults, for example “you’re doing great mama!” Just no

Falafellygood · 18/04/2020 21:44

On SW pages on Instagram (started following ages ago before coming to my senses)...
"Bloobs, strawbs and nana"
For blueberries, strawberries and banana
Hmm

Roominmyhouse · 18/04/2020 21:44

@BeardieWeirdie yes I was just about to say that. I hate the use of ‘gifted’ when saying given is fine.
