Some words just really make me shudder. Also, 'meal' and 'helping' as in 'another helping of broccoli'. Noooo

OP posts:

Tasty
Tasty meals
Veggies
Tasty veggies

Ugh

Plate up

Man child
Lashings

onanothertrain · 19/04/2020 09:54

Oh yeah forgot about tasty

Binterested · 19/04/2020 09:55

Also the way magazines made up then overused the word luxe.

Bag yourself a luxe lipstick
She dresses her house in an eclectic blend of luxe retro and modern finds.

MrsJoshNavidi · 19/04/2020 09:58

"Pre-loved" 😡

You mean second hand.

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 19/04/2020 10:01

My dp uses the word pour when talking about putting the dinner out. No matter what we are having, could be a roast. "Can you POUR dinner and ill get everyone a drink?" drives me fucking nuts. You can't pour a fucking solid mate!!!

isabellerossignol · 19/04/2020 10:04

Pre-loved amuses me because if the person who first bought it loved it that much they'd hardly have got rid of it.

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 19/04/2020 10:06

cosplay

isabellerossignol · 19/04/2020 10:08

I have an aversion to the word 'refreshing'.

Although weirdly, not 'refresh'. Hit F5 to refresh the screen? Fine. 'A cold glass of water is very refreshing'. Shudders.

Hanamuslim · 19/04/2020 10:11

I 'brought' it from the shop. Its bought.
And Chester draws. Its drawers. And chest of.

Also, my husband cringes at people who use me instead of my. For example, me bus fare, me cat, me drink. He literally grits his teeth and groans

dementedma · 19/04/2020 10:11

I really don't get the problem with meal.

However i hate on MN people saying their children "inhale" biscuits or whatever and something was "wolfed down". Gets on my (ample) tits.

sleepingpup · 19/04/2020 10:13

omg. Yes . Forgot we're pregnant.

Angry
Zhuleva · 19/04/2020 10:18

'Making memories' makes me want to projectile vomit

AvonBarksdale99 · 19/04/2020 10:18

I’ve never even heard some of these and they’re filling me with rage!

Picky tea?! Chester Draws?!?

I don’t think anyone actually says ‘holibobs’ in real life though. Surely not.

I do hate when people come on here to describe something they find disgusting and go ‘boak’ - that’s worst than whatever you’re reacting to

I also don’t like nosh or noshed - once had someone tell me unironically ‘she noshed me off’ and I did not like it one bit

malificent7 · 19/04/2020 10:18

Zhuleva · 19/04/2020 10:21

'fuckbuddy' is the worst of the worst for me
'cuddlebuddy' almost as bad

isabellerossignol · 19/04/2020 10:21

Boke is an everyday run of the mill word where I'm from, used by young and old alike. But I would find it very odd to hear someone say it in an English accent.

HopeYouStepOnALego · 19/04/2020 10:24

I agree with most of these and it's making me realise how intolerant I am! Some things I hate are regional preference such as 'plated up', whereas I'd say 'dished up'. I also hate 'knocked my door' instead of 'knocked on my door'.

A couple of others that give me the rage are 'need gone' in selling ads, and the media's use of 'side boob' when a woman shows a little bit of breast at the side.

LaMarschallin · 19/04/2020 10:42

Me too. Although it's not a total revelation to me how intolerant I am...Blush

Loathe "travelling" instead of "going on holiday"; quiz shows were mentioned previously - I reckon about 50% of people on them giving their little potted biography say their "hobby" is "travelling". Going on holiday isn't a hobby.

"Boob"and "boobing" - gross. Subtext: no nasty bottle feeding here and I'm such an earth mother.

I hate "booze" too. Obviously, just the word.

It's not just words with me - I really work at being intolerant.
I hate the MN "grin" emoji Grin
Looks like an aged skull
And I hate 😋 after someone's said what food they like. Reminds me of somebody I knew who used to run her tongue wetly around her lips and make a very loud slurping noise - "SCHLUPPPP!" - to show she like a particular thing ("foodstuff" Smile).
Made me feel sick.

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 19/04/2020 10:47

@Cunninghamsarah

Do you mean when adults still call their mum, mum?

I agree with the rest but surely you always keep calling your parents mum and dad?

Starbonnet123 · 19/04/2020 10:55

I have a few I dislike immensely , picky bits , period pads , curated as in "a curated Collection of clothing or makeup " panties, it's always makes me think of dirty old men in raincoats and bad 70s films. Nom noms and any cute names for body parts Grin

Whatisthisfuckery · 19/04/2020 10:57

‘Meal’ always made me cringe when I was a child. I’m somewhat more indifferent now.

I hate ‘nibbles,’ and ‘supper.’ They both sound so try hard middle class.

I also hate ‘non nom,’ ‘dindins’ and possibly the worst, ‘yummy.’ Also any adult who says ‘tummy’ needs a slap.

Whatisthisfuckery · 19/04/2020 10:58

Any adult who says ‘yummy in my tummy’ needs putting against a wall imo.

LaMarschallin · 19/04/2020 10:59

And I hate "joolery" for "jewellery" and "sekkertery" for "secretary".

And people who stick "trained" in front of their job title: eg "I'm a trained vet". Well I would hope so! I don't want you rummaging inside Rover's innards if you've had no training.

And very much agree with a PP who mentioned "mental health". "I've got mental health" or "MH". We all do! It might be better or worse but it won't be absent.
And so often the "MH" is "bipolar".
It's bipolar disorder.
And every time someone is sick they don't necessarily "projectile vomit". That's a very specific symptom and, once seen, won't be mixed up with a vigorous bout of travel sickness again.

Ahem.
I'd better go and have a little rest now for the sake of my "MH" Smile
