If we're all back to school from home next week, it'd make a great pride of the nation activity, red white and blue pictures with a happy birthday theme then all upload with a #HappyBirthdayQueen on the 21st.

I think shes an amazing women who has dedicated her life to our country. My own three DC have enjoyed the various red white and blue themed activities we've seen over the years in their various schools so might enjoy a purposeful activity and looking at those produced by others on the 21st.

I am in a militant mood now.

I want to know why 20 London bus drivers have died when the risk they are at was obvious. Simple but effective measures should have been put in place to protect them well before the virus took hold here.

I am not celebrating the establishment while workers are literally dying from keeping the vital services running. (I am not blaming the Queen for dead bus drivers)

The Queen has shown admirable integrity, actually , in saying ‘don’t celebrate my birthday’ and if you respect her maybe believe that she means it.

I feel like Thursday’s clapping should be replaced by a slow hand clapping and booing for the part of crap preparation on the part of our authorities and leaders that has led to the deaths of 20 bus drivers. And the lack of PPE for hcp s.

YinMnBlue · 18/04/2020 21:05

And...,
Quite righ, there should be no cannons.

Our workers are being used as cannon fodder.

Bus drivers 20 dead in London alone, more round the country.

The children of nurses: motherless before they are even born.

Lorry drivers: you know the fucking supermarket depots where they deliver have denied them access to toilets because of infection risk? Their hours have been increased beyond what was the legal driving time, no extra pay and they are barred from the toilets.

This is a time to seriously appraise and value and conditions of workers. Not get in a froth if distraction and get our kids believing fairy stories and believing that Princesses and Queens are the epitome of civic life.

If you have run out of fun projects bake bread or cake (if you have flour) and do a project about all the workers who contributed to that loaf: farmers, tractor assembly line workers, milling factory workers, lorry drivers, checkout workers....and for fun design each of them a cupcake for their imaginary birthday. Celebrate them.

Couldn't give a fuck about the Queens birthday and nor could my kids. Maybe we will move rapidly towards a republic after all this. They are totally irrelevant to our lives - and even more so with all this suffering. What do the royals know about real people's lives - truck drivers, delivery drivers, care workers, doctors and nurses, supermarket workers, farmers and food producers? Or people who have lost their jobs, their businesses and loved ones? In their insulated palaces and grand houses. Fuck off!

heartsonacake · 18/04/2020 21:27

You’re not on your own, OP. I think it’s a lovely idea and I think the same way about the Queen as you do.

MumsNet isn’t the place for this, but be rest assured, around the country hundreds of thousands of people will be celebrating the Queens birthday in various different ways Smile

YinMnBlue · 18/04/2020 21:28

The Queen was a Land Girl in the war, no special privileges, and part of Harry’s disaffection is that he was stopped from doing the job he loved, a proper soldier’s job. I don’t think all of them are clueless.

It is because the Queen actually has some sense and appreciation that
“The Queen’s 94th birthday on Tuesday will not be marked in any special way because the monarch felt it would be “inappropriate in the current circumstances” “.

Exactly. It would. So don’t.

As long as they stay in their bloody houses to do it, they can knock themselves out.

tillytown · 18/04/2020 21:47

Without looking at a calendar, does anyone even know what day the Queens birthday is? I don't even know what month it's in, or why she has two.
Also, yabu

TrainspottingWelsh · 18/04/2020 21:51

No idea tilly We'll be celebrating on the 31st of April

DressingGown123 · 18/04/2020 21:54

Eugh the Queen....BORKKK

SnoozyLou · 18/04/2020 21:58

Oh bloody Norah.

DressingGown123 · 18/04/2020 21:59

Also please get down off that high horse of yours OP

MrsTerryPratchett · 18/04/2020 22:03

I'm willing to call bullshit on that.

HeimdallSaysNo · 18/04/2020 22:03

Erm, we haven't heard anything about the schools re-opening?? Confused

To us the Queen is there, in the background, doing her constitutional duty as the Monarch, but really, has little impact on our lives personally. Her family are drama llamas. Whatever.

StoneofDestiny · 18/04/2020 22:09

Give over - while ATS women stayed in hostels or barns she returned each night to sleep in the royal residence of Windsor Castle. Of course she had special privileges - she always has, as all the seemingly endless members of this family do.

We're all in it together - yeh, the hell we are.

Gingerkittykat · 18/04/2020 22:14

It's my birthday in a few days, I demand all the children of Mumsnet draw me some pictures and then stand on the doorstep to give me a clap at 8pm on the dot.

No Union Jacks please, I require a Scottish Saltire.

merryhouse · 18/04/2020 22:17

Here we have a salutary lesson in the usefulness of punctuation.

If the op had only typed "back to school-from-home next week" it would have saved several people confusion.

Smellbellina · 18/04/2020 22:57

Yea, she does have to be Queen though as a pay off. Wouldn’t swap personally.

SallyWD · 18/04/2020 22:59

I really don't think we need to worry about the queen. She lives a life of extreme luxury. She'll be just fine on her birthday.

Mucklowe · 18/04/2020 23:09

I'd rather gouge my eyes out than celebrate that auld wench.

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 18/04/2020 23:37

So we're going with a maybe?

Smellbellina · 18/04/2020 23:47

So we're going with a maybe?

🤣

brendansbuddy · 18/04/2020 23:48

Blimey. I so don't want my kids indoctrinated with this crap about the royals. Unelected, wasteful, unaccountable,
elitist, archaic, parasitic, not a model of the world I want for their future. No idea why you'd want to encourage that kind of deference.

Smellbellina · 18/04/2020 23:53

indoctrinated

Grin

It’s the thread that keeps on giving.

Seetheprettysnowdrops · 18/04/2020 23:58
