If we're all back to school from home next week, it'd make a great pride of the nation activity, red white and blue pictures with a happy birthday theme then all upload with a #HappyBirthdayQueen on the 21st.

I think shes an amazing women who has dedicated her life to our country. My own three DC have enjoyed the various red white and blue themed activities we've seen over the years in their various schools so might enjoy a purposeful activity and looking at those produced by others on the 21st.

My thread is about offering children the chance to be a part of something. Its not about personal attacks on other peoples children.

These things are very different - saying direct things about my childrens personal development is very, very different to me saying I think some children might enjoy.

I do give to the foodbank, volunteered with homestart (but now just donate), volunteered with many schools, been a school governernor, look after elderly parents and yes sort out their food because their in isolation, so is my Dsis because her DH has recently had major heart surgery, I also support several people locally with significant mental health issues. I work for myself, pay my taxes, look after my three DC, help them with their school from home and have a DH who is a key worker.

I don't think supporting local issues, local people, wider family, charities and respecting the Queen are mutually exclusive.

I also like and have enormous respect for the Queen. It appears on this thread I'm on my own. So be it.

How about you make posters and Happy Lockdown Birthday banners and display them for all the kids who've had lockdown birthdays? I really don't think HRH is going to give a shiny shit if you festoon your house for her, but you just might some local child's day if you do it for them.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 18/04/2020 19:53

If your kids send her a handmade birthday card they will get a thank you letter from her (well, her lady in waiting). At the risk of being ridiculed Hmm I did that as a child. I was a bit obsessed with the RF and had a scrapbook to collect news cuttings and photos. I don't do that any more (stopped when I was about 10) but it isn't harming anyone if you want to do something.

pigsDOfly · 18/04/2020 19:54

Just practice your bowing and scraping and your forelock tugging while you're in lockdown OP.

We're all trying to find ways to fill the days, and perfecting these skills will stand you in good stead if you should ever get to meet her.

You never know, she might get to hear about the nice things you're planning on doing for her and decide to pop by and say hello.

Fallsballs · 18/04/2020 19:56

You’re a bit mad OP or you’re having an excellent wind up ?

Batshittery · 18/04/2020 19:58
Grin Complete batshittery
DominaShantotto · 18/04/2020 19:58

I know OP - why don't you go stand on your doorstep, wave union jacks and clap? I'm sure our Betty will hear you.

I'm assuming from the level of idiotic threads on here tonight that the night's drinking started about lunchtime.

StoneofDestiny · 18/04/2020 20:01

Teaching your kids to respect unearned wealth, excessive indulgence and subservience to an inherited position isn't maybe the way forward in the 21st Century.

Maybe thank you notes to the refuse collectors, supermarket workers, prison staff, nhs workers, postal delivery staff, lorry drivers etc might be a better lesson to teach children.

1Morewineplease · 18/04/2020 20:06

That the Queen has cancelled the canons and that various medics have said stay at home and not go outside if you can help it, suggests that we should all stay indoors and not congregate outside clapping, cheering and singing.
Maybe, when this is all over, we can all celebrate in some way. Now is not the time.

OhCaptain · 18/04/2020 20:09

Ah stop. Nobody personally attacked your children ffs!

Oh ! Now THAT would explain it ! Thank you Thanks

Smellbellina · 18/04/2020 20:11

Nice idea, my DC like any excuse to colour something in and stick in the window.

Smellbellina · 18/04/2020 20:13

Ah, I see I didn’t RTFT or even the OP properly it all seems to have gone a bit batshit.

Of course MN can get up in arms about kids doing a bit of colouring in though! 🤦‍♀️🤣

Frozenfan2019 · 18/04/2020 20:16

I think you must have known this wouldn't go down well on Mumsnet. Of course your kids can do something nice for the queen's birthday if they want to. She means nothing more or less to me than any other stranger. I don't celebrate their birthdays so I won't be celebrating hers.

TrainspottingWelsh · 18/04/2020 20:16

What a worthwhile idea, can we have a go fund me page too so we can all chip in for a present? Ludicrously wealthy and privileged benefit recipients are right at the top of my list of people I wish to pay homage to.

Blursula · 18/04/2020 20:19

Is this the queen who is currently chilling in her second home?

As a nation aren’t we not supposed to be doing that?

Bairnsmum05 · 18/04/2020 20:19

Think my house would be petrol bombed if I put up red, white and blue flags in the garden 😁

Nicolastuffedone · 18/04/2020 20:22

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 you are a one OP!!!

DysonFury · 18/04/2020 20:23

Having read about the Queen and her activities in Camloops (courtesy of Mumsnet) no. Just no shudders.

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 18/04/2020 20:24

Say what now? GrinAre you new to mumsnet op? With the best will in the world, you won't get many people agreeing with you on here. There are daily threads about people fed up with clapping etc so this will be like a lead balloon.

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 18/04/2020 20:26

I've been drinking since noon

Viviennemary · 18/04/2020 20:31

She has enough pomp and ceremony and adulation already.

ALovelyBitOfSquirrel · 18/04/2020 20:34

If we're all back to school from home next week

Wtf? Hmm

bettybattenburg · 18/04/2020 20:38
