Just a lighthearted post to change the subject from all things Corona!

I love watching cookery shows on a saturday morning and make a lot of Nadiya's recipes. Absolutely love her!

She was making a breakfast dish I was admiring and thinking of making tomorrow morning, and then I saw it. ODD SOCKS. The OCD in me came out and made me wonder, is this a thing people do intentionally? I mean she knew she was recording a show in her socks, probably didnt anticipate the camera pan down to her feet though!

Seriously it would drive me insane knowing I had odd socks, holely socks or seeing my kids or OH with them!!! As soon as one goes missing in the wash load, I give it a few days to turn up or it is banished !

Vote Yes if you are happy with odd socks or no if you're like me and think it's a no-go!

I started wearing odd socks deliberately when dd was very very young, so about 20 years ago. She had got herself dressed, chosen her clothes herself and had one orange and one raspberry pink sock. MIL was shocked, horrified and refused to take her out like that.

You can see why it became a deliberate act, can't you?

TheWordmeister · 18/04/2020 13:17

We are a family of odd socks wearers. Life is too short to pair socks.

cushioncovers · 18/04/2020 13:17

I don't pair any of our socks up can't be bothered so we mostly end up wearing odd socks. Didn't realise it was such a decisive topic

VivaLeBeaver · 18/04/2020 13:17

What's the difference

My oddsocks say “oddsocks” on the bottom of them. It’s the brand....or possibly oddsox.

I mainly have black socks but I used to have those ones with different coloured toes and never bothered matching them up. So my step mum would laugh that I always wore odd socks but you could only tell when my shoes were off. But then she bought me Oddsocks for Xmas.

It's offensive. That's why. Not to you maybe but to me is it, and why shouldn't I say that??

It's very rare anybody in this house wears matching socks. Theres 6 of us. When I sort the clean washing. I put the socks in a bag and every so often ( hardly ever) I sort the odd sock bag out.

Weregoingonanadventure · 18/04/2020 13:24

I wear odd socks almost everyday. Life is too short for matching socks.
Mine are all crazy insane colours and patterns anyway so they sort of look like they should be odd. It fits.

Dk20 · 18/04/2020 13:25

My 6yo thinks it's hilarious that I have an 'odd socks cupboard' in the kitchen. All the odd socks that come out of the wash go in there and every so often I'll go through them to see if I can pair up any that came out of different wash loads.

OneandTwenty · 18/04/2020 13:25

MegUffin
just because you disagree doesn't mean other people are wrong.
You are perfectly entitled to dislike the term mild OCD,or a bit of OCD. It doesn't mean others have to stop using it.

Rosebel · 18/04/2020 13:26

All socks get put on a chair and then if my husband and children want to find a matching pair they can. I was going to say I never bother but just realised that I am wearing matching socks today!

alittleprivacy · 18/04/2020 13:28

I often deliberately wear odd socks. It's my little nod to Punky Brewster, who's style always included mismatched shoes. Today I have a Batgirl sock on my right foot and a Supergirl sock on the left.

CottonSock · 18/04/2020 13:28

Lover her. Doesn't she have ocd herself..I wonder if she got deliberately mis matched socks. I saw them advertised on Facebook and were quite swanky.

aLilNonnyMouse · 18/04/2020 13:33

My OH wears odd socks on purpose. I spent many hours shopping for his xmas present this year - 21 different pairs of socks in different but complimentary colours that were all the same fit and material.

This let him choose from over 1700 different combinations while still being fully comfortable. He said it's the best present he'd ever got.

He's also been known for mixing and matching converse shoe colours - he looked very striking at a wedding once wearing a full suit with one purple converse and one green.

geekone · 18/04/2020 13:37

My DS wears odd socks as it annoys my DH he is doing it more in lockdown for entertainment Grin

CountFosco · 18/04/2020 13:42

I don't really care what other people do and I do quite fancy the sets of odd socks that match but not quite. DS has a monster set (different monsters on each foot).

However, I don't see why it's much more effort to match socks in pairs. There are 5 people in this house, we all have different shoes sizes and so different socks. So the socks need sorting by person anyway. I have several octopegs from IKEA and when the socks are pegged on that I put the pairs together as I find them and it is no more effort to peg together as apart. Then they are folded into their pairs as they come off off the octopeg. The only flaw in this is if DH takes the washing in and rather than taking the whole octopeg in he takes all the socks off and mixes them up again.

Trooperslaneagain · 18/04/2020 15:41

This is making me feel as nervous as the bloody coronavirus!

Seriously. Why are some people so determined to upset and offend others? It's absolutely pathetic.
Perhaps you would like to add 'a bit bipolar' or 'mild schizo' to your delightful repertoire Twenty. And those people who get upset by that can just do one, right? FFS Hmm

OneandTwenty · 18/04/2020 15:48

Oh I forgot about Punky Brewster! Maybe that's where it came from.

PrincessBuggerPants · 18/04/2020 17:16

She's got three kids in lockdown and is working. Give her a break.

Ernieshere · 18/04/2020 17:23

YANBU. I have to have a pair of matching socks on, even under work trousers.

YABU to have started a sock bun fight though!

My socks must match. And when I peg them out to dry, the pegs must match too (each other, not the socks). I'm quite a relaxed person, honest!

My sister was once visiting and helped when I had some washing to hang. She used pegs of different colours on the same article of clothing. I just HAD to change them until they matched.

TokyoTen · 18/05/2022 13:50

My DP says "just because you buy them in pairs it doesn't mean you need to wear them in pairs"!
