Just a lighthearted post to change the subject from all things Corona!

I love watching cookery shows on a saturday morning and make a lot of Nadiya's recipes. Absolutely love her!

She was making a breakfast dish I was admiring and thinking of making tomorrow morning, and then I saw it. ODD SOCKS. The OCD in me came out and made me wonder, is this a thing people do intentionally? I mean she knew she was recording a show in her socks, probably didnt anticipate the camera pan down to her feet though!

Seriously it would drive me insane knowing I had odd socks, holely socks or seeing my kids or OH with them!!! As soon as one goes missing in the wash load, I give it a few days to turn up or it is banished !

Vote Yes if you are happy with odd socks or no if you're like me and think it's a no-go!

My ds wears off socks. It is actually easier when doing laundry. You don't need to worry about finding pairs. I just pile up his socks and put them in his drawer.
However I always wear pairs of socks, just can't bring myself to change even though I hate doing the laundry.

homeschoolchaos · 18/04/2020 12:00

I always wore odd socks as a teen/student. My DH has an issue with odd socks though so I don’t because I can’t be doing with the complaining, but I think odd socks saves time and also solves the issue when only one sock has a hole in it

Shouldershrugger · 18/04/2020 12:02

I have odd socks on now

motherheroic · 18/04/2020 12:03

I always have a sock missing when I try to pair them, so now I just don't care.

DappledThings · 18/04/2020 12:03

And when I peg them out to dry, the pegs must match too (each other, not the socks). I'm quite a relaxed person, honest!

Ha ha me too! Every item that requires two pegs must have those two pegs matching.

bruffin · 18/04/2020 12:04

I thought it was a craze that had been and gone

Jollypolly999 · 18/04/2020 12:06

@DappledThings that's quite funny. I use wooden pegs so they all look the same to me!!!

@Jemtully a lovely gesture to your late friend ❤

My teen dd wears odd socks. I let her know the first time that I noticed but she said it was intentional.

After reading this thread, I don't know whether to be reassured that she's not alone or shocked (only half joking) that so many people aren't bothered by wearing odd socks.

Buying black socks doesn't solve the matching problem; it makes it harder because they can be slightly different styles or fade at different rates. I am autistic though so that probably accounts for me needing socks to match precisely.

PigInASlanket · 18/04/2020 12:11

I wouldn't care if my socks didn't match aesthetically.... but people who grab them at random - how do you know that they will feel the same? THAT is more important than the look. And if they've been paired they will have been worn/washed at the same rate and be the same size/texture etc.

Myneighboursnorlax · 18/04/2020 12:11

I always wear odd socks deliberately. If I accidentally pull out a pair from the drawer, I’ll put one back and find another. My only requirement is that they have to be the same length. I wouldn’t wear one knee sock with one ankle sock.

Fluffybutter · 18/04/2020 12:12

There are companies that specifically sell odd socks .
We bought some for dd from Little Miss matched

StCharlotte · 18/04/2020 12:18

Not as bad as day of the week socks/pants though. I couldn't cope with wearing the wrong ones for any day.

Those pants would be a good idea at the moment!

maddiemookins16mum · 18/04/2020 12:19

I’ve managed to get to mid 50s, with a family etc, never needed to wear odd socks. It’s not hard.

1forsorrow · 18/04/2020 12:19

When I got to about 60 I decided I had wasted too much of my life trying to match up socks, why does one always go missing? So my answer to When I'm old I'll wear a purple hat is Now I'm old I'll wear odd socks. It is strangely liberating.

koshkatt · 18/04/2020 12:21

The OCD in me came out

Do you really have OCD OP? Or are you minimising a serious and debilitating mental health condition?

LookTheOtherWayPlease · 18/04/2020 12:22

You are being unreasonable to saying “the OCD in me”.

This.

SunshineCake · 18/04/2020 12:24

I keep the other sock when one gets a hole in as it will open again and then I have a pair albeit non matching. Odd socks are 100% fine and should be what we all do to limit waste.

Watertorture · 18/04/2020 12:24

If the socks were made of different fabric/one thicker than the other I wouldn't like it

crimsonlake · 18/04/2020 12:24

Another one here who frequently wears odd socks, a sock is a sock to me. My son also takes the same view.

fuckinghellthisshit · 18/04/2020 12:25

DC both wear odd socks out of choice - constantly. I have only black ankle socks and trainer liners - all M&S. DH spends hours carefully matching folding and rolling socks. Who gives a fuck Grin

MegUffin · 18/04/2020 12:26

I think you are very unreasonable to say " the OCD" in me...

OCD is a severely debilitating mental illness. It only occasionally has anything to do with things such as odd socks; it runs much much deeper than that and it has various forms.

It's a bastard of an illness. I would know as I have it and have it diagnosed by psychiatrists. It truly is horrible.

FWIW I understand your rant and how it pisses you off, but as an a OCD sufferer, I don't give a rats arse about odd socks- I wear odd socks all the time.

Not to knock your post, I get that wearing odd socks pisses you off and it's meant lightheartedly, but please don't talk about OCD in the way that you do.

It's offensive and makes a mockery of a debilitating and terrifying illness.

GetOffTheTableMabel · 18/04/2020 12:26

Sainsburys have been selling the same 3-pack of navy blue women’s ankle socks for about a decade. I love them and dread them being discontinued. I pick up a pack every time they’re on special offer. When we moved house I realised I had 23 identical pairs. I never ever have an odd sock. I recently discovered bamboo socks from Bam and so now all my trainer style socks come from them and I never have an odd trainer sock either. It’s the best!

OneandTwenty · 18/04/2020 12:26

it was fashionable at some point.

I still wear odd socks when I wear casual clothes -like one spotty, one stripe. They have to clash to make it worth it

OneandTwenty · 18/04/2020 12:27

I think you are very unreasonable to say " the OCD" in me...

except... OCD comes in all kind of forms and levels. It's not offensive, because it's not a competition.

viques · 18/04/2020 12:27

Jemtully

That is the best sort of memorial. I bet your friend would love it.
