Holiday in Mid June...

Newbie1999 · 18/04/2020 05:52

... to Portugal, and need to get one child a first passport, and renew another child’s passport.

Is there any point?!

You're not going to Portugal in mid June Confused

Elderflower14 · 18/04/2020 06:14

Why would you possibly think you would able to fly to Portugal in Mid June?
More to the point why would you want to?? 😕

Waxonwaxoff0 · 18/04/2020 06:17

I wouldn't bother.

Newbie1999 · 18/04/2020 06:19

I don’t think I will be able to fly, in fact I’m hoping that we can’t so that we get a refund or credit - but I wanted to see what the general consensus is.

OP posts:
Pixxie7 · 18/04/2020 06:21

I very much doubt it.

CoffeeIsMyOnlyJoy · 18/04/2020 06:22

Unlikely, not impossible. If you plan on going next year/Autumn I'd do the passports and make some wishes.

GinnyStrupac · 18/04/2020 06:22

No, there's no point.

And give the poor passport office staff - who I read are being forced in to work unnecessarily - a break.

GinnyStrupac · 18/04/2020 06:23

Aim to get a refund OP, not a credit.

Parmavioletmum · 18/04/2020 06:25

Weve been having the same dilemma and like you say, realistically knowing your not going but still if you don't get them and they then by some fluke say it can go ahead losing all your money. We've decided weve got no choice but to move the holiday to next year if I can ever get through to TUI! Who is it you've booked through?

Britons warned about summer holiday plans

GlummyMcGlummerson · 18/04/2020 06:37

Do people have to be so rude in response to people asking about simple questions about COVID?!

GinnyStrupac · 18/04/2020 06:58

Have a look at travel advice available from Simon Calder online.

Emcont · 18/04/2020 07:19

People really are unnecessarily rude!

We're booked for Majorca mid June. 99.9% sure we won't be going as I believe Tui aren't starting flights again until June 30th.

I'm hoping they cancel and we can get a refund. I don't want to go anywhere outside of the UK this year anymore regardless.

Take the dickhead posters on the chin OP x

Mucklowe · 18/04/2020 07:23

At this point, a lot of people are irritated by posters asking stupid questions to which the answer is blatantly obvious. Of COURSE nobody will be flying to Portugal on holiday in June. Does it even need asking?

Egghead68 · 18/04/2020 07:24

Not happening.

percentageshelp · 18/04/2020 07:26

We had a holiday booked for Portugal in mid June. It's been cancelled already.

Newbie1999 · 18/04/2020 07:27

People can see the title of the thread - if it irritates that much, more fool you for clicking and responding.

Will check out Simon Calder - thanks.

@percentageshelp Thanks for response - who was it booked with?

OP posts:
percentageshelp · 18/04/2020 07:36

@Newbie1999 Jet2 x

Parmavioletmum · 18/04/2020 07:40

Be aware as well that TUI are offering credit only on cancellation, or move the holiday. They will offer you a cash refund but 12 months from the date you were due to go on holiday. Abta/atol have apparently quietly changed their policies and this is now acceptable!

SpeckledFrogsLog · 18/04/2020 07:45

Is that true Parma? We are currently agonising over whether to pay our balance for our holiday which is in Menorca in late July. I’m struggling to get any clear guidance and am wary about paying the balance if I’m going to have a long battle to get a refund if it is cancelled.

I’m also concerned that even if the holiday does go ahead social distancing here and in Spain will be so strict that the holiday won’t be enjoyable. Sorry to hijack OP but I’d welcome opinions Smile

PirateWeasel · 18/04/2020 07:47

Exactly, speckled. I'd rather write this year off and start again next year when things are more likely to be open and running. Anything to avoid unnecessary stress.

Newbie1999 · 18/04/2020 07:48

We’ve booked through James Villas - I only paid the balance once they confirmed via email that we’d be entitled to a full refund should it cancel. Hoping that’s still the case!

OP posts:
rookiemere · 18/04/2020 07:52

If you check on Trustpilot James Villas is getting generally good responses from people on how they are handling covid 19 cancellations. Hope it works out for you.

Newbie1999 · 18/04/2020 07:54

@rookiemere Good to hear, thanks!
