... to Portugal, and need to get one child a first passport, and renew another child’s passport.

Is there any point?!

I think people will be flying in July, not mid June though.

Lincslady53 · 18/04/2020 17:50

Even if restrictions are lifted do you really want to be sat in a metal tube, with 200+ other people, breathing the recirculated air, with travel insurance that will not cover CV19. If you get there and it all kicks off again, you will have big problems getting back. I'd forget holidays abroad for months yer.

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 18/04/2020 18:01

@Parmavioletmum the kicker is that there is no way to force them to give you the money within 14 days because you’d need to take them to court and that would take longer than 14 days! So my point was less about the 14 days and more about the fact that you do not have to settle for a credit note if you need the money. However they are under immense pressure and they know that they won’t really suffer any sanctions if they refund slowly (thus protecting their cash flow a bit) , as long as they do refund at some point. Personally I’d be prepared to be patient and/or take the credit (as it can be converted to cash later) unless I really really needed the cash myself right now.

Alsohuman · 18/04/2020 18:03

Of course you’re not going to Portugal in June. We’re probably not going to Yorkshire in September either.

Parmavioletmum · 18/04/2020 18:18

Oh definitely @ArgumentativeAardvaark. We fully intend to take the credit and go next year. Weve saved hard for this year and have been so looking forward to it so were just saying next year will be even better!

SpudsAreLife84 · 19/04/2020 05:38

@MissMooMoo they have said that they are "being processed" since 10th March. The HMPO is covered by the same union as my organisation and I know that they have largely been closed due to covid-19 and should only be processing urgent applications for travel on compassionate grounds so I'm not too worried to be fair. I was lucky to get a full refund for my May holiday already and not a chance will I be re-booking it for this year- or next probably

paininthepoinsettia · 19/04/2020 06:30

I had a holiday to Turkey booked for late June, flights were cancelled yesterday. The Turkish tourism minister said that he is confident that tourism will resume at end of May, and our hotel is running as usual so I would not be surprised if it's business as usual in July.

Ethelfleda · 19/04/2020 08:17

Thing is, OP, according to MN we won’t be out of lockdown until at least 2076 and you can forget about holidays for at least 70 years. Your kids won’t be back at school before then anyway Hmm

Emcont · 20/04/2020 15:02

@Ethelfleda GrinGrinGrin

MadisonAvenue · 20/04/2020 15:32

@Bagelsandbrie Which date are you due to fly? Our Virgin flight to LA is supposed to be May 22nd so like you I’m still waiting and hoping for it to be cancelled. I believe they’ve now cancelled up until May 3rd.

Bagelsandbrie · 20/04/2020 15:42

@MadisonAvenue we are due to fly on the 25th so just waiting to see what happens. I’m so nervous as there now seems to be lots of stuff in the US media about pressure to return to normal (!) so I’m really hoping they do cancel. We won’t be going either way but I just want our money back.

MadisonAvenue · 20/04/2020 18:34

@Bagelsandbrie That’s my worry too, and looking at delaying until next year means that we’d be paying A LOT more.

We’re also trying to get a refund from Jet2 for my son’s holiday which they’ve cancelled, and they’re doing the wait for a phone call thing which means he’ll probably miss them calling because he’s still having to work and doesn’t have access to his phone during work time.

Lotsalotsagiggles · 22/04/2020 00:26

Do you think a flight from London to Edinburgh and a stay in a booked apt for 4 night is still do-anle or will be cancelled?

We fly domestically 15 June

Egghead68 · 22/04/2020 08:46

It may be cancelled - I think they said hotels etc may be some of the last places to come out of lockdown. In any case, would you want to be in the germ-soup of a plane?

notacooldad · 22/04/2020 08:49

At this point, a lot of people are irritated by posters asking stupid questions to which the answer is blatantly obvious
The people that are irritated should just scroll on. Why go to the bother of a reply!🤷‍♀️

peperethecat · 22/04/2020 08:51

I don't think you will be able to go but you might as well get the passports done anyway. If by some miracle they decide to lift all the lockdown restrictions and you can't get a refund but you also can't go because yout kids haven't got passports you'll be really annoyed.

rookiemere · 22/04/2020 08:51

Domestic flights are interesting. I don't think they'll be allowed to go fully loaded so they'll need to fly with half filled planes. However they will be keen to get air travel going. Could you drive instead if you had to - live in Edinburgh and appreciate may be long journey but doable from most places in a day ?

MsMiaWallace · 22/04/2020 08:54

We're on week 5 waiting for my sons renewal.

HostessTrolley · 22/04/2020 09:09

@paininthepoinsettia - can i ask which airline? We’re booked to fly to turkey on 28/6 with BA and no news yet

paininthepoinsettia · 22/04/2020 09:23

@HostessTrolley KLM. It wasn't a direct flight because we're cheap so that might be something to do with it (via Amsterdam). I hope you get away!

NotSorry · 22/04/2020 09:26

The people that are irritated should just scroll on. Why go to the bother of a reply!

Completely agree - seems as though some people just want to have a go at someone - the aggression on this board is getting out of hand

Xenia · 22/04/2020 09:28

Our package holiday company (Italy end of June) is still not saying either way. They have not cancelled and I have not cancelled (nor have I paid the final balance but they are postponing those until a month before). In our case I think it's unlikely particularly as I doubt the air lines will be operating - currently it is a Gatwick flight arranged by the holiday company and Gatwick is closed (although Heathrow T5 is open currently).

Our holiday company has cancelled the May holidays but june not yet.

AvalancheKit · 22/04/2020 09:34

I think June is too early to contemplate flying anywhere. That ambition is never achievable if several waves of coronavirus are to be avoided. Viruses move with people and I suspect international travel will be off the cards, other than for trade purposes until 2021. Some countries may try to open, but most countries will block international tourism to prevent re-emergence of the virus. I think that from Easter 2021 international travel will start to get back to normal, but it will be patchy to start with.

notimagain · 22/04/2020 09:58

Domestic flights are interesting. I don't think they'll be allowed to go fully loaded so they'll need to fly with half filled planes.

FYI Lots of talk/rumours about social distancing on flights being introduce but AFAIK such is not (yet) in any regulations or proposed regulations so I think that's a wait and see as to what will be allowed..in any event schedules for June are still very much an unknown.

As an aside it will be interesting to see how many people who baulk at the idea of "germ-soup" aircraft, equipped with A/C and HEPA filters, will nevertheless be prepared to travel to the airport on germ-soup trains, germ-soup buses, or on the germ-soup tube out from Central London to Heathrow.

bridgetreilly · 22/04/2020 10:16

No, but I would get the passports anyway, because you'll need them at some point.
