To ask my neighbours to remove their wind chimes

They don't just have one, they have at least 6 and its driving me insane, litterally. There's no point us putting our music on to try and drown them out as it would have to be at full volume.

It's so bad that I can't even try and conduct a quiet conversation as I'd have to shout to be heard.

Just sneak over and snip 'em, then sit back and enjoy the aftermath Grin

RebelWhoWashesFor19Seconds · 17/04/2020 11:27

I would ask. It's extremely unneighbourly and rude to have items that cause noise to others for absolutely no reason at all.

Just start out very politely asking. Don't get their hackles up straight away or you may get to the point of leaning over the fence and cutting the sodding thing's strings in the middle of the night!

Weloveoptimus · 17/04/2020 11:27

@livefornaps my Dad once did that Grin

CareBear50 · 17/04/2020 11:28

Just ask nicely. Most reasonable people would be happy to help

thenightsky · 17/04/2020 11:28

Wind chimes are incredibly antisocial. Hate the bloody things. Agree with snipping them off in the middle of the night if you can get away with it.

MrsT1405 · 17/04/2020 11:30

I really hate wind chimes, they are so annoying. I would ask gently and explain how loud they are. Then get a blow torch on them....the wind chimes not the neighbours.

livefornaps · 17/04/2020 11:31

@Weloveoptimus loolll please do tell more!! Did trouble lie ahead? Grin

legalseagull · 17/04/2020 11:32

If you ask and they say no you can't then snip then. Too obvious Grin I hate the bastard things too

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 17/04/2020 11:32

This can only end badly

KonTikki · 17/04/2020 11:34

Ask nicely for them to be taken down
If they are reasonable people they will do so.
I once asked my neighbour to remove a security light that shone into the front of our house.
He did so the next day.

Thingsthatgo · 17/04/2020 11:34

I’m generally a very chilled out person, but wind chimes give me the rage. I would ask.

wouldyouadamandeveit · 17/04/2020 11:35

Phew, thanks all. I'll wait till the morning as if I go today I'll like force my way into their garden and remove them myself!!!!

ALovelyBitOfSquirrel · 17/04/2020 11:36

YANBU! They're bloody awful!

ScarfLadysBag · 17/04/2020 11:38

Wind chimes are the biggest act of neighbourhood terrorism around. Snip the strings of the bastards.

Mysterian · 17/04/2020 11:44

Horrible things. As bad as music in the garden.

TSSDNCOP · 17/04/2020 11:50

Is it windy where you are today? It is here, and if I had wind chimes (which I don't) they'd be going like crazy.

My point is, you can make your point better about the sodding bastards on days they're making maximum racket. If tomorrow is a still day your complaint won't be as relevant.

fairydustandpixies · 17/04/2020 11:54

Hehe, you'd all hate it round my way! Every single garden, including mine, has at least one wind chime! I personally love them and find the sound very soothing (as do all my neighbours apparently as they have far more than me!). Saying that, all of us have our bedrooms at the front of the houses (terraced) so we don't hear them at night! Grin

Aloe6 · 17/04/2020 11:58

Definitely ask politely, they probably have no idea that it bothers you. Most people don’t want to upset their neighbours.

Weloveoptimus · 17/04/2020 12:05

@livefornaps He leant over the fence, cut it down and threw it in a wheely bin.
I don't think ever found out what happened and they didn't replace it.
I can remember being Shock

Mummyoflittledragon · 17/04/2020 12:06

One chime is not great. But 6, this would send me around the twist!😩

WhyCantIThinkOfAGoodOne · 17/04/2020 12:07

I actually quite like wind chimes but wouldn't put any in my garden as it's bound to irritate at least one (if not all) of my neighbours. I would just polite ask them to take them down.

HillAreas · 17/04/2020 12:08

Wind chimes are the devils own handiwork.
You do what you have to do to combat this menace.

Carlton08 · 17/04/2020 12:09

My neighbours have a bird and every morning from 6-8 it pecks the fence constantly - sounds like someone hammering! Do you think I can ask them to remove their bird?!

isitspringyet · 17/04/2020 12:10

Awful things.. my neighbour has them.. also had a three year extension carried out weekends sporadic not even an apology to us. Some people are just selfish!

Mistystar99 · 17/04/2020 12:11

Wind chimes are a way of signalling to interested parties that you are swingers. They may be cross if you interfere!! Grin
