To have two toilet brushes?

WhatTiggersDoBest · 17/04/2020 09:19

Our house came with a loo brush but I didn't want to use it so I bought another one. DH suggested we keep the first one for just in case we ever get stomach flu or similar.
But I keep seeing on MN that people don't use toilet brushes. How else do you clean your loo? Do we just have bad quality poo or something for why our loo needs scrubbing? Do Mumsnetters have special toilet fish that eat the yuck away?
AIBU to have two toilet brushes?
If so, what's the "proper" MN-approved way of cleaning a loo the day after my DH has had a curry?
Am fully prepared to hear I'm being unreasonable. Grin

BTW if the answer is toilet fish then where can I get some? Grin

I’ve never used a toilet brush, I have those duck disc things down the toilet and I put bleach down after anyone has been, leave for 5 mins then flush! :)

Midsommar · 17/04/2020 09:23

I have three toilet brushes (downstairs toilet, ensuite and main bathroom). I wouldn't dream of not having one so I don't understand why people don't use them?! I wouldn't use a second hand one to be honest, I'd get rid. They are cheap enough to buy from places like B&M. So no, YANBU!

dementedpixie · 17/04/2020 09:23

I have 3 (3 toilets) but they are silicone ones and easier to clean and dont rust

AdoptAdaptImprove · 17/04/2020 09:25

I use loo brushes in both loos (I know MN will tell me its gross but we’ve been together for 20 years and neither of us have had a stomach illness in that time, so we are clearly doing something right). They’re about 80p from ikea and they are changed regularly and cleaned in bleach, with a bit of bleach in the holder.

But the thought of using someone else’s loo brush left behind when they moved makes me heave. Do have one and one spare, but for gods’ sake burn the one you’ve kept!

Redlocks28 · 17/04/2020 09:25

I buy the 50p ikea ones and replace them regularly.

WhatTiggersDoBest · 17/04/2020 09:26

@dementedpixie Silicon toilets? Do they not fall over when you sit on them? Grin

MegUffin · 17/04/2020 09:29

Clean my toilet every day and never have the need for a shit brush.

The thought of having one makes me 🤢🤢🤢

dementedpixie · 17/04/2020 09:31

I dont use them for after a number 2 - toilet roll works for that. Just for when cleaning the toilet with toilet cleaner.

Grin Grin at silicone toilets

Elouera · 17/04/2020 09:33

So your OH kept a 2nd hand toilet brush incase he gets diarrhoea??? Confused

We have a silicone, spatula type thing. Far better than a 'brush' which flicks 'sh!t' around the bowl and doesn't clean that well. Something like this:

WhatTiggersDoBest · 17/04/2020 09:34

@Kellylabrant87 do those disc things really work then? I've never tried them.

My family are all trained to use toilet paper to wipe any skids above the water line immediately. A squirt of toilet bleaner and a second flush gets rid of the below water. I only use the , very clean , brush for scrubbing the toilet for normal cleaning purposes. I do struggle with people walking out of a bathroom leaving a mess, and even more with a brush full of shit. It isnt difficult and I would always clean upp straight after small children without a brush

Baaaahhhhh · 17/04/2020 09:36

If you don't have a toilet brush how do you dislodge turds from the ubend. As for bleaching after every movement Shock

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 17/04/2020 09:39

I’ve got 3 one in each toilet.

We only use them to actually scrub the toilet with bleach, on the weekly bathroom proper clean

They are in a silver pot with lid type thing so hardly look offensive

EmeraldShamrock · 17/04/2020 09:41

I had one once it was decorative to match my bathroom set, some dirty fecker used it and put it back in the bowl with poo stains.
It went in the bin.
Tbh we never have a messy toilet that needs a brush, if a mess is made it is cleaned there and then dab of bleach.
I spray the inside of the bowl, flush and dry with kitchen roll.
How do you clean a toilet brush? The shit sticks in the brissles. Shock

BovaryX · 17/04/2020 09:42

Our house came with a loo brush

Is this some kind of grotesque joke?

Kellylabrant87 · 17/04/2020 09:42

@WhatTiggersDoBest I really like them also they smell lovely! Sometimes I alternate it and put those pink things in the cistern and have lovely pink toilet water that smells like
Rose’s :D

EmeraldShamrock · 17/04/2020 09:42

I don't think my turd has over got stuck. I go twice a day it doesn't have time to grow. Grin

Babyboomtastic · 17/04/2020 09:44

@EmeraldShamrock

You DRY your toilet?
Wtf. Really?

LolaDarkdestroyer · 17/04/2020 09:46

Was the first one used?Shock as soon as there's a shit stain bleach it and it's gone toilet brushes harbour germs and vileness I don't get the point of them my shitter is always clean no need for them.

lightnesspixie · 17/04/2020 09:47

I would never use those just the thought 🤮 we bleach when we clean

motorcyclenumptiness · 17/04/2020 09:51

I keep seeing on MN that people don't use toilet brushes
MNetters - like the Queen - don't go to the toilet and therefore have no use for toilet brushes

EmeraldShamrock · 17/04/2020 09:51

@Babyboomtastic lol I don't know why. I think after the cleaner has removed stains, I give it a shine.
I've been wasting my time. 😂

LockdownMayhem · 17/04/2020 09:54

I can't believe some people bleach after every bowel movement Shock

We have one but like a pp wipe anything that's above the water line with toilet paper each time so when we use the brush, it certainly doesn't get poo on it. We had some windows fitted a few months ago and my brush had definitely been used to clean shit though, bleurgh.

DontStandSoCloseToMe · 17/04/2020 09:57

We have a brush but it's not used to scrub shit, why would any adult walk away from a toilet they'd left like that (more to the point what is wrong with your bowels if you're leaving it like that in the first place) , our toilet brush (silicone) is used to clean the toilet not to scrape shit off of it. We use ecover or similar rather than bleach, it's fine. The brush is rinsed under a clean flush after cleaning and then put back in its holder with a squirt of the cleaner.
