Does anyone know what decade this is from?

I found this buried deep in my back garden along with a load of other stuff.

It looks like miners make up from some time ago, it was inside a sellotape tin like the one in the pic attached.

I'm wondering how long it's been down there for, google tells me that the sellotape tins are from the 50s just wondering if anyone can date the make up.

Pretty sure I remember this stuff from the 80s.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 16/04/2020 23:40

Miners was 80s

Divebar · 16/04/2020 23:41

Miners was definitely around in the 80s but I don’t recognise the sellotape tin from that period and would guess it’s older.

onelittleclara · 16/04/2020 23:41

I used to buy Miners in the 80’s but I think they were still about in the 90’s

Bunnybigears · 16/04/2020 23:41

80s I would say

TheReluctantCountess · 16/04/2020 23:42

What else did you find? I’m intrigued!

dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby · 16/04/2020 23:43

I remember Miners and sellotape tins from the 1970s.

Qgardens · 16/04/2020 23:47

I'd say 70's too but I'm not sure.
I remember sellotape tins. Not so much in the 80's.

Qgardens · 16/04/2020 23:48

Although thinking about it, the tins I'm remembering were plastic so maybe not.

Leaannb · 16/04/2020 23:49

Miners very early 70s to maybe mid 80s
My grandfather and father used it while working the Welsh Mines

Haffiana · 16/04/2020 23:49

70s.

AnnofPeeves · 16/04/2020 23:49

Miners isn't from the 80s. It was on sale in the early 70s, and I think probably in the 60s.

dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby · 16/04/2020 23:50

Could it have been from someone doing the 'Blue Peter Time Capsule' in 1971? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Peter#1971%E2%80%932000

1Morewineplease · 16/04/2020 23:50

I’d say Miners from 70s and possibly the sellotape too , which looks to be from late 60s packaging that hadn’t changed for quite a while.

ZarkingBell · 16/04/2020 23:50

That sellotape logo is 1970s or earlier

MajorFaffington · 16/04/2020 23:51

I think remember Miners in the mid-late 90s (born ‘86).

BSintolerant · 16/04/2020 23:51

How weird! I’d love to know what else you’ve found. Hopefully it’s not a body! 😉

MajorFaffington · 16/04/2020 23:51

*I think I remember

SinisterBumFacedCat · 16/04/2020 23:52

Miners were still going in the 90’s, looks like a 90’s logo. I didn’t even know selatape came in a tin. I love finding old stuff. We found a couple of vintage Pepsi bottles buried in our garden.

user1486131602 · 16/04/2020 23:53

70s my mum had both

Missingminieggs · 16/04/2020 23:54

Thanks, I was kind of hoping it had been down there since the 50s when the house was built, but if the make up is 80s I'm guessing it had just been put in an old tin.

The garden was possibly landscaped in the 80s/90s and all the stuff was buried underneath a raised patio and some steps.

We found buried, a really old, whole carpet all folded up, what looks like a takeaway wrapper but can't work out where it's from, what possibly might have been someone's pet in an old shoebox (didn't look too closely), we found a baking tray (that one puzzled me), some plastic bottles and a load of wiring.

Nothing very exciting unfortunately, but I was hoping to work out how long it had been there.

I am a child of the 60s and definitely recognise that sellotape tin as the sort of thing we had at hone.

DrawingLife · 16/04/2020 23:59

I love a bit of sleuthing. Miners seem to change their branding every decade, looks like this font with the name inside the m was used in the 60's.

Great tin! What a fun find to speculate about.

Wheresthebiffer2 · 17/04/2020 00:02

thank goodness there wasn't a body wrapped in the carpet. shudder.

Missingminieggs · 17/04/2020 00:05

Should have taken a photo of the sellotape tin, it was exactly like the photo only very rusty. My ds smashed it open to see what was inside, I was hoping it was a roll of tape.

I did get a bit worried when I saw the carpet rolled up but there were no bodies thankfully.

Don't think it's a time capsule as it just seems like a load of rubbish that someone's buried. We were trying to figure out what the original garden would have been like.

It fascinates me to think it's been there all these years. I really need to get out more clearly!
