Excruciating dental pain

Hello all. I have a broken tooth. It's broken in half. I'm in excruciating pain. I have already had one log of antibiotics and it didn't help. I have tried every potion and OTC medicine available. Nothing helps. I feel like I'm going crazy. We don't have a dental hub set up yet.

I really don't know what I'm asking but Amy advice please?

I am in so much pain I would pull it out myself (obviously not going to do that)

Thanks

I know that's what I meant. They shouldn't be risking their lives

I'm onto week 5 and the pain is back with a vengeance. I am very worried about the amount of cocodamol I am having to take to function. Today I've had to take Ibuprofen as well.

I was crying on the phone to the emergency dentist, said I couldn't eat due to the pain and would I just have to starve to death and there was still nothing they could do for me other than 5 days of antibiotics that have done nothing.

It is getting ridiculous now.

Glad yours is feeling better at the moment 12step

Hoping mine calms down again soon Sad

Is there no way of finding out where these dental hubs are? Does anyone know if they are published anywhere??

12stepCAKE · 21/04/2020 00:22

Well NHS were calling them a rumour... And they don't think they will arrive in our area... So no I don't think so. Didn't fill me with much hope

They do exist but in a lot of areas there isn’t much they can do at the moment with no PPE!
There’s probably a central list but it won’t be made public. You aren’t allowed to just turn up- it all has to go through 111. Even your own dentist has to send you through 111, they can’t refer you either.

pinkoneblueone · 21/04/2020 02:37

Call 111 as they are also dealing with dental emergencies

12stepCAKE · 21/04/2020 04:33

I spoke to 111 nothing they could do in my area

They were the ones who said they are a rumour to be coming to our area

I feel your pain op, i have had tooth abcesses before and the pain is excruciating. It's disgusting the lack or complete absence of dental care. Tooth pain can quickly turn real nasty and shouldn't be ignored. Dental services in my area, also south east NHS wise were pretty dire before this crisis, now completely vanished. Something needs to be done to get dentists working again. I have a toothache brewing at the moment and hoping it doesn't turn into a full blown infection, like you no one will treat me. Rinse your mouth regularly with hot salty water made with boiled water cooled down until quite warm, add a teaspoon of rock salt or any salt to it and swill it around. Also clove oil, dentagel and boots do Ibuprofen mixed with codeine if you ask over counter, much stronger than regular ones so should be able to limit how much you are taking better. Also an ice pack to the cheek side of tooth really helps to take pain away a little xxxx

Thank you. Hope you feel better soon too

I've been quite lucky. I must be the rare exception because the antibiotics have helped a lot. I still have a general ache but my face has deflated and I have a distinct, pea sized lump on my gumline now. I've finished the course now and the dentist has said to leave things alone to see if things improve over the next few days otherwise he'll issue another course. I seem to have an earache as well, is that part and parcel of this, will it go too?

FourTeaFallOut · 21/04/2020 09:00

Oh, and a big thank you to the first person who mentioned Clive oil. I bought it cynically thinking it must be the dental equivalent of the lavender bath in childbirth but it has been so helpful.

12stepCAKE · 21/04/2020 09:01

Yes I have had ear ache and head ache too. I don't have an abscess though my tooth is decayed inside and broke. I'm still surprised with my teeth all white on the outside.it wasn't until I went for a check up (after a few years.... My own stupid fault) and they did an x-ray that the insides of 6 teeth were quite bad. Had 2 root canals. This one was supposed to be a root canal but it was left too late. Still three to go and this one to be removed. I never had pain either until I went to the hygienest. Think it triggered a nerve because ever since then they have all hurt on and off until j have a root canal done. My own stupid fault

@12stepCAKE
How are you now? I've just read that emergency hubs have been set up in Kent, depends whereabouts you are in W Sx, but Ashford or Canterbury might be an option if desperate.

12stepCAKE · 25/04/2020 03:47

Hello. I'm good at the moment thank you. only needing paracetamol occasionally at the moment. I will remember that if the pain comes back! Thank you again
