He Tweeted: "It’s the Queens birthday next Tuesday. Let’s throw her a surprise. At 9am 21st April, we are calling on the whole country to sing Happy Birthday from our windows and doorsteps. Let our song bring good cheer not just to Her Majesty but to the whole nation"

I'm sure he means well but really?

It's no more daft than all the clapping and saucepan banging that's already going on.

Flymetothetoon · 16/04/2020 18:09

Hardly anyone near me bothers with the Thursday evening clapfest so I can really see them going for this! NOT

AdoptedBumpkin · 16/04/2020 18:10

Sounds a bit daft, but I'm sure he means well.

CaptainCabinets · 16/04/2020 18:10

What exactly is the harm Hmm

I’m as far from a royalist as can be but there really isn’t any harm in saying happy birthday to Her Maj.

DDiva · 16/04/2020 18:11

I'd quite like it but only because it's my husbands birthday too so we could add him as well .....

AdoptedBumpkin · 16/04/2020 18:12

@DDiva Grin

Cyllie33 · 16/04/2020 18:12

Ah, live and let live OP. I am rather endeared by the thought of Ben standing outside his house at 9am bellowing our happy birthday and looking hopefully around him.

Malvinaa81 · 16/04/2020 18:13

He's always been a bit too full of himself- and this idea confirms that.

CrazyTimesAreOccurring · 16/04/2020 18:13

9am??! Why so early - not even up by then these days Grin so for that reason YANBU

Surroundedbyeediotics · 16/04/2020 18:13

It’s not any worse than all the virtue signalling that’s going on right now

hyacinthbouquetsbucket · 16/04/2020 18:14

@Ddiva Grin

I'll not be doing it, I'll be working and I have sufficient respect for my colleagues not to inflict my caterwauling singing on them.

Mistystar99 · 16/04/2020 18:14

We are never awake at 9am nowadays

PersonaNonGarter · 16/04/2020 18:15

I leapt onto this thread cos I think Ben Fogle is such complete dork. But, actually, this is no better or worse than all sorts of other well meant but ultimately self absorbed crap that people are continually suggesting at the moment.

FourEyesGood · 16/04/2020 18:15

But the Queen’s on Twitter, isn’t she? It won’t be a surprise!
(And yes, it’s a ridiculous idea.)

MrsHardbroom · 16/04/2020 18:17

Apparently it was his nine year-old daughter's idea. Not that that has stopped the inevitable Twitter pile on....

Dieu · 16/04/2020 18:18

I'm in Scotland, and I don't think it will be entered into.

hyacinthbouquetsbucket · 16/04/2020 18:22

Perhaps he should have said it was his daughter's idea and then the reaction would have been very different. I'd have thought 'oh that's quite sweet' and moved on without commenting or starting a thread. He presented it as if it was his own idea.

OP posts:
Dieu · 16/04/2020 18:23

You mean it was a drip feed Grin

SunshineCake · 16/04/2020 18:24

I think it is a lovely idea. I might even send her a card 🎂 🍷 🎈 🎉 👑

tulippa · 16/04/2020 18:25

I don't think she'd hear me from here.

recrudescence · 16/04/2020 18:27

As a lifelong republican, I will be singing my own composition, ‘Down With Fascism’ to the tune of Happy Birthday.

DirtyTicket · 16/04/2020 18:27

The responses to that tweet were some of the best I've ever read. Kept me amused most of the day.

onanothertrain · 16/04/2020 18:28

It's no worse than clapping every week. At least it would be a one off

AdaColeman · 16/04/2020 18:28

9am? Liz won't have even had her breakfast Dubonnet & gin by that time!

BlackSwan · 16/04/2020 18:29

He's just not that bright. But means well.
