To think my photographer friend shouldn’t still be offering photo shoots?

Unbelievably · 16/04/2020 16:16

My photographer friend has posted on social media saying she is still offering outdoor photo shoots where she will ensure she is a minimum of 2 meters away from families at all times.

IMO she really shouldn’t be doing this but she has a history of bending rules to suit herself.

AIBU here?

Well it isn't essential work, and any family out posing for photographs wouldn't be out for an essential reason either.

I can understand people being worried about lack of income, but this does not fit into the permitted reasons to leave your house.

Drpeppered · 16/04/2020 16:20

Whilst I understand why you are concerned, remember that this is your friends income and she still needs to make a living. She is probably quite worried financially, and maybe it wouldn’t hurt to try and be more compassionate about that.

RandomLondoner · 16/04/2020 16:24

Why shouldn't she be doing this?

There is no general rule against people carrying on working. In particular, there is no general rule that only "essential" jobs are allowed to be done.

There are some specific businesses that have been told to close, but I doubt photography is on the list.

GrimmsFairytales · 16/04/2020 16:24

Surely no one will be able to stand around and have a photo shoot, as it's not part of their daily exercise.

I understand she may be worried about her income, but breaking the rules like this will put others at risk.

RandomLondoner · 16/04/2020 16:27

It's a fair point that the people she's photographing may be breaking rules, if they're not being photographed in their home or garden.

But the question was whether she's breaking any rules.

WorraLiberty · 16/04/2020 16:29

Why on earth shouldn't she be doing it? Confused

TabbyMumz · 16/04/2020 16:30

" well it isnt essential work"

It doesnt have to be.

"but this does not fit into the permitted reasons to leave yourhouse"

For her it does, as it's her work and it isnt just essential workers that are allowed to work, it's any worker who cant work from home. However, the people getting their photograph cant do it, unless she is photographing them walking or doing their daily exercise...or indeed doing work, if their work cant be done from home...

LuluBellaBlue · 16/04/2020 16:30

She isn’t breaking any rules - please remember businesses on the whole have been told to carry on, just wfh any staff that can.
However the family having the shoot are officially breaking the rules, unless they do a photo shoot of their daily exercise Grin

alittlecloudfloatinginthesky · 16/04/2020 16:30

Photos taken in people's gardens, with appropriate distancing between photographer and clients. I don't see the problem.

WorraLiberty · 16/04/2020 16:30

An outdoor photo shoot can mean a garden.

MyDcAreMarvel · 16/04/2020 16:30

Self employed people are allowed to carry on working.

AnyFucker · 16/04/2020 16:31

Your friend, you say ?

WorraLiberty · 16/04/2020 16:32

Everyone is allowed to carry on working.

If they can't work from home and if they can practice social distancing, they don't have to be a key worker doing essential work.

RandomLondoner · 16/04/2020 16:32

Work carried out in people’s homes, for example by tradespeople carrying out repairs and maintenance, can continue, provided that the tradesperson is well and has no symptoms. Again, it will be important to ensure that Public Health England guidelines, including maintaining a 2 metre distance from any household occupants, are followed to ensure everyone’s safety.

"There is no general rule against people carrying on working. In particular, there is no general rule that only "essential" jobs are allowed to be done"

Are you being ironic?

bigchris · 16/04/2020 16:33

You can go to work if you cant work from home

And no one is enforcing social distancing in work places

daisypond · 16/04/2020 16:34

but this does not fit into the permitted reasons to leave your house.
Of course it does. People are allowed to work. But it’s more problematic for the families wanting the photo shoot.

Makeitgoaway · 16/04/2020 16:34

Will people try reading the guidelines before deciding what other people should and shouldn't be doing?

If you cant wfh, you should continue to work, whilst complying with social distancing, which is exactly what she is doing.

Nowhere does it say you can only work if that work is essential

GrimmsFairytales · 16/04/2020 16:34

An outdoor photo shoot can mean a garden.

I thought you weren't allowed to visit other households?

bigchris · 16/04/2020 16:34

By no one I mean law enforcement

My boss has said we should be in separate offices but that's it

midgebabe · 16/04/2020 16:35

In the UK, You are permitted to work at your usual place of work if working from home is not an option and social distancing is possible and you are not in an officially closed line of work ( like in pubs and some shops )

bigchris · 16/04/2020 16:35

People round here are visiting other households by sitting 2 metres away in the garden and not going inside

WorraLiberty · 16/04/2020 16:36

Will people try reading the guidelines before deciding what other people should and shouldn't be doing?

4th week of lockdown and people still aren't getting it.

WorraLiberty · 16/04/2020 16:37

I thought you weren't allowed to visit other households?

Of course you can if it's during the course of your work and you are practicing social distancing.

What would you do if you needed a plumber or an electrician?

GrimmsFairytales · 16/04/2020 16:40

What would you do if you needed a plumber or an electrician?

A plumber and electrician are very different from a photographer. The work they carry out could be considered essential. Having a photo taken is a nice memento, but hardly the same as fixing a leak for example.
