What is the most unreasonable? Chocolate biscuits or crisps?

I seem to be coping with lockdown with small children by eating lots of snacks. So if it going to be bad, is savoury any better for me? Some crisps are potatoes vegetables, some snack ones more wheat obviously. Or are 20 biscuits just as bad as multiple packets of crisps ? I seem to be one of the other ? And yes I do need to loose some weightBlush

Just check the calories on the packets

dementedpixie · 16/04/2020 15:11

Yes I'd look at calories. A packet of crisps is probably worth a couple of biscuits. The snack crisps can often have fewer calories than potato ones as they are often baked rather than fried

TaTuirseOrm · 16/04/2020 15:17

Depends on your preference surely. I still have my unopened Easter egg here because I've no real love for chocolate. However, put a 200g bag of doritos or a selection of cheese in front of me and I'd have it devoured! Mmmmm cheeeeeeese!

AlphaHotelFoxtrot · 16/04/2020 15:18

Likely that biscuits will be higher in sugar, and crisps higher in salt. Neither is particularly healthy in large quantities.

GameSetMatch · 16/04/2020 15:32

Go for the chocolate, It makes you feel sickly quicker so you should eat less 😂

Fluffybutter · 16/04/2020 15:35

I’d choose savoury over sweet any day but that’s more to do with preference rather than calorie counting

CSIblonde · 16/04/2020 15:41

I stand stoutly (quite literally, as I'm overweight too) by my belief that hula hoops are 'healthier' because they're baked. And I lived on them in the heady days when I ate crap all day long & was a size 8. Also, WRT maltesers: anyone who grew up in the 70's knows, "they are'nt fattening, as they're all air".

Serenity45 · 16/04/2020 15:45

What @CSIblonde said

BoomBoomsCousin · 16/04/2020 15:45

Neither are particularly healthy so checking calories is the way to minimize the most immediate weight gain. I would tend towards favouring savoury in order to try and limit the growth of a sweet tooth.

But I'd also try and add more variety and lean more towards less processed foods (fruit and veg, maybe nuts).

caz114 · 16/04/2020 15:46

C'mon everyone knows that Hula Hoops are healthy because all the calories were in the holes and removed

GreyishDays · 16/04/2020 15:49

I’d go for want you feel like, otherwise you’ll eat the better choice and then end up eating the other anyway.

Clavinova · 16/04/2020 15:49

You should eat dark chocolate;

dementedpixie · 16/04/2020 15:55

Dark chocolate is not nice though.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 16/04/2020 15:59

Dark chocolate is the stuff of which dreams are made. I would eat nothing but dark chocolate if I could.

Biscuits are crap, crisps are only worth eating if they are Pringles (which DS14 assures me are not actually crisps because they don't decompose).

WhyCantIThinkOfAGoodOne · 16/04/2020 16:04

Dark chocolate with nuts is my go to. As long as I don't look at the sugar content I can convince myself it's basically a superfood.

donkeypuzzle · 16/04/2020 16:04

Nooooo dark chocolate is bitter

I have a good variety of fruit and veg everyday, but probably too much in terms of portion size for dinners and too many snacks of course. Last night was macaroni cheese ( with cauliflower and peas) and I had A LOT about 3 people's worth hmmmm yummy.

@CSIblonde this is the type of wisdom I was hoping for !

I had a vague theory maybe savoury would be better for you, but I hadn't considered the salt which there is also in biscuits. I used to be savoury all the way, but have turned biscuit since having kids as so easy to grab.

I just know that slimming world put crisps at like 8+ syns so they were bad. But anything with chocolate was waaaaaaay more.

Bit of dark chocolate to stave of cravings is a good suggestion though I agree.

Mini milkyways were only like 3 or 4 syns each too ;)

LongPauseNoReply · 16/04/2020 16:05

Forget the calories and look at the carbs. Go for the one with less carbs.

JovialNickname · 16/04/2020 16:16

Unhelpful surely the real answer is just have what the hell you want at the moment, and work at the calorie counting when this very weird time is finally over! (Unless you literally are eating 20 bags of crisps a day or something.) I'd have both sweet and savoury, you're not going to get a better excuse for it than being locked in the house with cupboardfuls of snacks and not being allowed to leave by government order Grin

Shadowdoor21 · 16/04/2020 16:21

But surely you're not eating 20 biscuits per sitting anyway right? Lol. Otherwise you've bigger things to worry about than calories. Like, diabeaties.

MrsDoylesTeaBags · 16/04/2020 16:25

CSIBlonde makes a strong point, also Hula Hoops are mainly hole so less calories. Jaffa Cakes are technically fruit and I do believe Fruit & Nut bars count towards your 5 a day.

Shadowdoor21 · 16/04/2020 16:30

Good point about hulahoops. Quavers are baked too not fried so better I guess.

I think just moderation of anything.
3 chocy biscuits or 2 packs of crisps per day. Maybe alternate the days so your body only has to process one type of rubbish on any given day haha.

dementedpixie · 16/04/2020 16:32

I could eat multiple packets of monster munch, wotsits, other baked snacks. They are mostly air anyway

artistformerlyknownas · 16/04/2020 16:35

Neither are unreasonable and you should eat copious amounts of both Grin

MangePasTesOnglesVilain · 16/04/2020 16:36

I genuinely am trying to get fat as I haven't got a stone or two to lose if I get the virus.
