Getting on the vulnerable list

Kitten9 · 16/04/2020 09:49

I’ve seen a few people posting that they haven’t been able to get on the vulnerable list for priority delivery slots etc. MIL is highly vulnerable and was having difficulty registering at the start of all this, so we ended up emailing her local MP who was incredibly helpful in pushing her case through. It turned out that her medical records hadn’t been updated correctly - they listed her as not having hypertension when she clearly does. Once we got that sorted she was added to the list and now has absolutely no issues with getting a delivery slot, which is such a relief!

Posting here in case it can help anyone else. Sending (socially-distanced!) hugs to you all!

Surely there is an option for delivery slots but not boxes?

Yes. Our box had an invoice from Bideford in it. I called them and they have removed us from the weekly box delivery. We still have supermarket slot access but luckily also have some non vulnerable slots as I am trying to avoid using the vulnerable is possible.

ClientQ · 16/04/2020 11:14

@Fredthedoggie I got a text which says you registered but had not received a letter, we will share your details with the NHS and with supermarkets, that was Friday
My doctors hadn't put me as needing to shield but my consultant contacted them and insisted shouted
It doesn't look like I'll receive a letter so I don't know whether that affects anything, my consultant is going to write me one for work if needed

Fredthedoggie · 16/04/2020 11:14

Or even Bidfood

Fredthedoggie · 16/04/2020 11:16

Interesting about GP involvement although my understanding was the opposite - that the extremely vulnerable list had actually originated from GP records, in which case there wouldn’t be any point them trawling through them a second time.

Interesting.

ClientQ · 16/04/2020 11:18

They definitely need to go through again - there is a HUGE amount of people who have been missed including transplant patients and people with rare blood conditions I did a whole podcast and TV interview on it

tontie · 16/04/2020 11:20

I registered my mum with her letter wks ago, we've had 2 delivery boxes for her which have been very good but no info re delivery slots

alloutoffucks · 16/04/2020 11:20

I registered and heard nothing 3 weeks ago.
In frustration I registered again and 3 days later got an email from Sainsburys offering me access to delivery slots. You still have to compete for them, but they do not seem to difficult to get.

If she has existing online supermarket delivery accounts then log on and you may find she has been identified.

Apparently motor neurone patients have not been identified.
My DF is receiving chemo currently and was not identified.

I have just looked at Morrisons (from the Leeds Ocado depot I assume) and there are lots of slots for all customers available (not vulnerable). I realise it is regional but do have a look if you are in a Morrisons delivery area.

JustStayHome · 16/04/2020 11:27

I registered my nan as soon as this came about.

She hasn't received help or a box.

Sainsbury's hasnt acknowledged her or me as vulnerable, which is awful

Twsco ahdnt either, but i rang them and a guy who had just started that day, registered us both, but im not sure now if thats the case with other people because people are saying they cant help them.
Tesco was good last week but now its really hard, i think there is so many people trying.

My GP has been rubbish, my consultant had to sort it out, which is poor, because my consultant also works in A&E and has been working in Intensive care the last few weeks, and in his spare time, has to be calling / working with his secretary to send emails, just seems so wrong to me

Don't get me wrong, i know Drs are busy too, but consultants like mine really are front line

@Kitten9 - when did hypertension become one of the vulnerable categories? I cannot see it on the NHS website links.

bellinisurge · 16/04/2020 11:28

My dh had a text from Sainsburys saying he's noted as vulnerable but then when he tried to access it, nothing. Tried everything to get through. No success.
His parents are over 70. I tried for them. Marketing emails from Sainsburys and that's it.
Dh is now poorly so we are in self isolation.
Luckily I'm a general prepper so we have stuff.
And I don't need to say fucking shambles.

Fredthedoggie · 16/04/2020 11:28

The slots are on the 30th (so being released 2 weeks in advance)

Fredthedoggie · 16/04/2020 11:29

I registered my nan as soon as this came about. She hasn't received help or a box.

If she has one of the extremely vulnerable conditions then register again.

YouTheCat · 16/04/2020 11:30

Also interested in the hypertension. I expect there are other medical reasons as well as the BP though as I have hypertension and am not vulnerable.

JustStayHome · 16/04/2020 11:31

@Fredthedoggie

Just clicked on Morrison's.
There 20115 people in front of me in the Q !

JustStayHome · 16/04/2020 11:32

@Fredthedoggie

She 85 and house bound.

Fredthedoggie · 16/04/2020 11:33

It moves quickly!
Best time to try is just after midnight- the slots are for 2 weeks in advance- sometimes some for the next couple of days.

JustStayHome · 16/04/2020 11:36

@Fredthedoggie
👍

Tonemeth · 16/04/2020 11:38

she 85 and house bound.

Its unlikely she meets the criteria then. Scotland are now opening their helplines to vulnerable, not just extremely vulnerable so hopefully the same will happen down south.

JustStayHome · 16/04/2020 11:41

@Tonemeth

She has got the priority slots for Tesco now, after i rang and spoke to them

Up untill 5 days ago they was so easy to get. Now they are much more difficult

Sainsbury's said they would except her when i rang too, but still waiting for that to happen

Fredthedoggie · 16/04/2020 11:41

She 85 and house bound.

There are lots of local volunteer and covid 19 groups who can help with shopping. If you google you should find a local list.

Queenie8 · 16/04/2020 11:44

I received my letter from the NHS in the first wave 23/3. I've had a second letter, 4texts plus a call from my GP. I initially didn't register, as I wasn't aware. But I have not heard from any supermarket. I assume that I will have to re-register.

knittingaddict · 16/04/2020 11:48

@Kitten9 - when did hypertension become one of the vulnerable categories? I cannot see it on the NHS website links.

I'm obviously not the op, but there seems to be a fair bit of confusion about the who is vulnerable.

The original list of vulnerable that was produced by the government right at the start of all this did include people with high blood pressure. I now because both my husband and I have hypertension.

The extremely vulnerable list was then published. Probably because the infrastructure couldn't cope with the larger, earlier list.

The distinction seems to be lost on some.

The government registration is clearly for extremely vulnerable people (the second list), but bog standard "vulnerable" people have to do what they can to help themselves or look to family and friends to do what they can. It's so hard.

I told Ocado that we are vulnerable (we are as my husband and I both have other issues apart from the hypertension), and as long term customers we have regular slots now. We wouldn't ever claim to be in the group of extremely vulnerable people as they need more protection.
