Getting on the vulnerable list

Kitten9 · 16/04/2020 09:49

I’ve seen a few people posting that they haven’t been able to get on the vulnerable list for priority delivery slots etc. MIL is highly vulnerable and was having difficulty registering at the start of all this, so we ended up emailing her local MP who was incredibly helpful in pushing her case through. It turned out that her medical records hadn’t been updated correctly - they listed her as not having hypertension when she clearly does. Once we got that sorted she was added to the list and now has absolutely no issues with getting a delivery slot, which is such a relief!

Posting here in case it can help anyone else. Sending (socially-distanced!) hugs to you all!

I am in the extremely vulnerable group, I'm immuno-suppressed due to medication.

knittingaddict · 16/04/2020 11:51

Know not now.

Might need to pay for that edit function after all.

ClientQ · 16/04/2020 11:52

Extremely vulnerable here too (rare blood disorder with increased chance of infection)

knittingaddict · 16/04/2020 11:56

Yes, I would register again.

My daughter's partner had a letter from his GP to say that he is vulnerable and should shield. He is on Immunosuppressant medication. My daughter has assumed because it didn't say extremely vulnerable that they wouldn't get deliveries. I'm now thinking that they should be registering too.

alloutoffucks · 16/04/2020 12:40

Yes vulnerable is much wider. It includes many more people than I think the government realised it will. Extremely vulnerable includes people undergoing chemo for cancer, cystic fibrosis, severe asthma, etc. It is much narrower, but I suspect still more people than the government was expecting.
The pregnant nurse who died was recognised as vulnerable. Vulnerable people still have to work including in the NHS. Extremely vulnerable have been told they should not work for 12 weeks.

alloutoffucks · 16/04/2020 12:41

@knittingaddict Did it say they should stay at home for 12 weeks? If yes then they should register. The letter should have explained that.

I would try- 4 of the people I have registered successfully did not have the letter-a couple had been called by their GP to ask about delivering medications. They all met the criteria.

StillSmallVoice · 16/04/2020 12:51

If you register it asks whether you are able to get what you need. We have some good local suppliers for food who are delivering, I am sourcing other things off the internet and I have a daughter who is happy to collect prescriptions. I am very happy to leave those slots for people who are genuinely stuck.

(I was told verbally by a GP three weeks ago, but only got the letter yesterday)

woodchuck99 · 16/04/2020 12:53

Interesting about GP involvement although my understanding was the opposite - that the extremely vulnerable list had actually originated from GP records, in which case there wouldn’t be any point them trawling through them a second time.

No, most people were identified by the NHS or secondary care. GPs have now been asked to look at those who have self identified as very vulnerable to see if they should be included. Basically, people can't just add themselves to the list without it being checked. There is a delay.

Queenie8 · 16/04/2020 12:54

I've just looked at the text again from the gov website, I really should have read it properly before now, it seems that it is not recognised me on the extremely vulnerable list. I have just called my GP Surgery and they have checked the public health England list and I am on there. The surgery says they do not need to add me as I'm on the list. I'm now back to square one.

I have registered again for the gov website. Hopefully it will be recognised this time. After that I have no idea how to establish getting delivery slots.

We did that for the first weeks but then we were unable to get any slots for 10 days. The diet for my DH is quite specific as he has cancer and cant eat anything with lumps or chew. Now we are registered but try and take a normal slot if available.

woodchuck99 · 16/04/2020 12:55

My daughter's partner had a letter from his GP to say that he is vulnerable and should shield. He is on Immunosuppressant medication.

It doesn't automatically mean that he will be considered very vulnerable though. It depends on how much he is immunosuppressed.

woodchuck99 · 16/04/2020 12:56

Sorry i misread. If he had a letter from his GP then he obviously is considered very vulnerable. Not everyone on immunosuppressant will be though.

Fredthedoggie · 16/04/2020 12:57

After that I have no idea how to establish getting delivery slots.

Set up an online account now using the same email with Tesco if you can (you may well have a tesco account as they used to do lots of other stuff online)

Do you currently have any online supermarket shopping accounts- even if you haven't used them for ages?

knittingaddict · 16/04/2020 13:03

alloutoffucks

Yes, it did say that he should stay home for 12 weeks. I'm talking to my daughter later, so will see what it says. She is going to the Sainsburys across the road as they live in a big city, but it would be better if she didn't have to do this.

I'm not sure that they are signed up to any supermarkets though. Could she still get deliveries from one of them?

StillSmallVoice · 16/04/2020 13:20

Fredthhedoggie

That's what I meant. I can eat anything and can get local deliveries. I would hate to think of someone struggling because I was too lazy or selfish to sort myself out.

mygrandchildrenrock · 17/04/2020 08:56

For people who have had the NHS letter, are shielding for 12 weeks, and are not internet savvy, Morrison’s are offering a phone service for 40 items and next day delivery.

Yellowbutterfly1 · 17/04/2020 09:25

More needs to be done to explain to people that there are 2 lists.

Vulnerable
Extremely vulnerable (shielding)

So many people seem to think that being in the very large vulnerable list means they should receive food boxes and priority for online food orders. As others have said this is not the case. It simply means you have to be extra careful with social distances (according to my child’s consultant). Which all of us should be doing anyway regardless of being on a list.

tontie · 17/04/2020 09:30

if it helps my mum has received an email from Sainsburys re online deliveries

Yabadee · 17/04/2020 09:36

Extremely high risk here due to 2 different strong immunosuppressants (azathioprine and adalimumab)

I’m impressed with how Scotland are dealing with this. Had 2 separate letters, then a phone call on Tuesday to make sure I understood and see what help I needed. I said no to a food box but yes to priority slots. Food box order had already been automatically processed so received that yesterday, and to await another call from the council re Asda slots.

In no desperate need right now, the box they delivered is fab. And it was only a one person box, you can ask for more.

If you’re struggling mentally they book a call weekly for you with someone to talk to.

Arrange for a volunteer to pick up prescriptions, walk your dog etc

Very impressed with how I’ve been looked after so far

Yabadee · 17/04/2020 09:38

Oh and I didn’t need to register anywhere, the letters came automatically. Was hoping I wasn’t on the list so I could keep going my walks but hey ho

mygrandchildrenrock · 17/04/2020 10:22

People need to check their junk email, I found an email from Asda that had been there about a week. I now have a weekly delivery slot until October with them. Good to have one less thing to worry about. There was also an email from Sainsbury's in my junk box too!

Fredthedoggie · 17/04/2020 12:58

So and update

I registered a person 2 weeks ago. They got delivery slots after a week. They were called yesterday to ask if they wanted a box buy the agency for their county. They didnt as they had just had Ocado deliver

This is a step forward rather than automatically sending boxes. May be regional.
