Has anyone noticed helicopters in their area? We have them now day and night - some so low it scared the pets and kids. Some black some yellow some grey. Is this just my area? We all feel unnerved by it a bit Confused

Foghead
Is your friend receiving any help for her paranoia?

okiedokieme · 16/04/2020 08:40

If you look on the flight radar type apps (dp loves them) there's lots of military helicopters (and transport planes) in the evening especially but very little else. In the daytime lots of raf training flights it seems

LouiseTrees · 16/04/2020 08:40

West central Scotland and yes.

GoodMorningSunshine · 16/04/2020 08:40

Check out Flightradar24 now, lots of activity at this very moment above Scotland!

barberousbarbara · 16/04/2020 08:41

We've noticed more helicopters in South Wales but there's been a number of hill fires so it might be something to do with that.

Lausch95 · 16/04/2020 08:41

I've noticed lots more helicopters in the sky, some flying really low. Yesterday we had one very loud and low flying and circling around over us. Dog was going mental!

Shockers · 16/04/2020 08:43

Yes, and small planes too. I’m in the NW and I assumed they were checking the M6 and also local beauty spots.

Shockers · 16/04/2020 08:45

@Foghead- our washing smelled really odd the other day after it had been out on the line...

Lucked · 16/04/2020 08:46

I am central Scotland and have heard them close by in the afternoons and evening but not directly overhead so I don’t know what they look like.

We are having pretty amazing weather so I wonder if they are making the most of it for training. I suppose it is a very quick way to look at parks etc for gatherings, I am relatively close to Strathclyde country park.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 16/04/2020 08:46

Yes, we have had them every night. We live right by fields so I'm not sure what they are expecting to see but yes, its a bit unerving.

Sassenach85 · 16/04/2020 08:48

These flight apps could be addictive Grin

I’m in the south west and we have had helicopters circulating twice a day, it’s pretty normal for her though so I haven’t taken much notice, we are close to a army base and they often practice here.

thetemptationofchocolate · 16/04/2020 09:02

I think the Police are definitely using them to monitor traffic. They have also said (we live in a tourist area) they will be monitoring this at night as some of the visitors are trying to sneak in at night thinking they will not be seen.
But like others we do see them quite often, usually, just not every day or multiple times per day as it is now.

cdtaylornats · 16/04/2020 09:02

Hardly any and I usually see Air-Sea Rescue on a weekly basis. I guess no one climbing or sailing they aren't used as much.

Chinooks are heavy lift so they will be ferrying equipment to distribution points.

Dmt80 · 16/04/2020 09:03

I'm in a rural area, west of Glasgow and I heard very similar a couple of nights ago. I was up around 2am feeding my baby and at first I thought it was just my ears but the noise would get louder then quieter as though aircraft was circling. It did freak me out a bit too. Never heard it last night though.

Oldraver · 16/04/2020 09:03

OP...Lots of people have told you...there is nothing 'odd' about the circling, it's how they work. They go round in circles as the camera is on the front and they scan the area.

So in answer to your question. Yes they are watching you, Grin

Well maybe not you personally, they will be watching for someone. Its their job, nothing sinister

hoorayforharoldlloyd · 16/04/2020 09:05

Yes in london, scoping out parks. It's a new thing, normally only see air ambulances. Quite creepy.

hyacinthbouquetsbucket · 16/04/2020 09:05

..and other planes, a Vulcan went over a few months ago

Are you sure about that? It's a few years since a Vulcan flew anywhere.

PhoneLock · 16/04/2020 09:06

We normally have a lot of helicopters in the area but I can't remember the last time I heard one.

They must be away watching the rest of you.

TinnedPearsForPudding · 16/04/2020 09:06

We live quite close to a major heliport & there's been much less air traffic than normal - but perhaps most of the helicopters near us are private / commercial

ShouldWeChangeTheBulb · 16/04/2020 09:08

We live next to a huge estate that is nutritious for gangs so we are used to the helicopters being out. There has been more than usual here. I assume to break up gangs of kids hanging out.

TheStuffedPenguin · 16/04/2020 09:15

Helicopters are used here ( rural area but live near a Motorway) routinely for stolen cars etc so I imagine they are continuing to use for general observation .
