cultkid · 15/04/2020 10:38

I can hardly open my mouth 😭 my throat hurts SO much and I have a temperature of 39 at least 3/4 of the day never dropping under 38.5

Please someone help me. The nurse is calling me soon. I can hardly talk. I've been taking co codamol 8/500 and ibuprofen
What can I do for the pain
Have you been prescribed something that helped before
I haven't had a sore throat since I was 16

Yep you need to stay in bed. Also think if you r swollen you need to ring them again? Is it your face that's swollen?

cultkid · 17/04/2020 09:19

It's my throat it hurts more if I stop drinking or talking
I honestly think it's more swollen today but my fever is lower

OP I feel for you greatly. I’ve had all manner of throat infections and I think the worst by far was getting hand foot and mouth off my son- it was the worst throat pain I’ve ever known.

You’ve been given great advice already, the only thing I can add is using a humidifier in your bedroom to keep your throat moist, and using hot/cold compresses held to your throat.

You also need to bed rest. If you don’t this will go on longer. Maybe use that slant with your husband; the longer you have to skivvy around the more poorly you’ll get and he will have to do absolutely everything for longer. What a tit.

Keep drinking as much as possible. Small sips constantly to keep your throat lubricated and codeine/cocodamol regularly. Get better soon.

LMW1990 · 17/04/2020 09:24

Not sure if this has already been mentioned but I had similar pain and swelling with a salivary gland infection. It was agony. I could not open my mouth and had to drink through a straw. It felt like it was my throat too. I too have no tonsils and the nurse I saw at the urgent care centre said it was more common in people without as usually the tonsils would catch the infection before it got to the glands. I didn't have any viable neck swelling until about a week after it all started. I had two courses of antibiotics. I've actually had it twice in the last five years.

Regardless, my sympathies OP. It absolutely sucks to be in pain! Xx

cultkid · 17/04/2020 09:29

I appreciate everyone's love support and input so much
I'm honestly in bed for once at the moment and plan to stay here all day except to make lentils maybe later on

Xxx lots of love

@LMW1990 can you please tell me more about where that was because the GP couldn't see any obvious cause of the excruciating agony in my throat xx

Soontobe60 · 17/04/2020 09:38

Impacted wisdom teeth can be horrendous, cause throat pain and prevent you from opening your mouth. Keep taking paracetamol and ibuprofen or get hold of some anadin extra. Unfortunately if it is this, then antibiotics won't help.
You sound exhausted and unable to cope very well. I'm not surprised you want your mum, if I were your mum I'd want to come and look after you. Have a day in bed, let your DH look after the kids and don't get annoyed if the house is in a tip, you'll soon start to feel better.

LMW1990 · 17/04/2020 09:39

I'm not sure what they saw that I didn't to be honest. It was the not being able to physically open my jaw which seemed to tip the diagnosis. My jaw ached, my throat hurt but wasn't visibly swollen (a little red maybe) and then I had some neck swelling after around a week. It took about three weeks and two lots of antibiotics to subside x

cultkid · 18/04/2020 08:35

I'm worse. The pain is worse my health feels worse. I recovered better from all surgeries I've ever had honestly. My throat doesn't look that bad and fever is more under control 38.5 ish but I am so so so sore now even my jaw actually hurts
I'm waiting for a call back I called them at 5 am for help and was told one hour but no call yet
I couldn't even look at my phone properly until about ten minutes ago as I felt so nauseas before the anti sickness medicine kicked in

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 18/04/2020 12:39

Sounds absolutely awful op. Did you manage to get anything stronger ?

cultkid · 18/04/2020 13:13

Thank god
I've gotten metronidazole
I took it three hours ago and also 30/500 co codamol
I feel finally a bit more alive and less vulnerable
An awful headache and very nauseas but I can actually swallow spit and talk without a lisp

I want to thank everyone for all of their support I have been so grateful for it for the last few days
It's been a really lonely time xx

So glad

can you put some vicks over your throat and cover it. it may soften your throat a bit.

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 18/04/2020 13:31

Just a warning. Metronidazole is good stuff, best AB for dental treatment but when it says no alcohol, it MEANS no alcohol. Not even one glass. I have never seen anyone throw up so violently.

cultkid · 18/04/2020 14:35

@nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut
For once in my life I genuinely do not want a glass of wine I am sick as a dog xx

@cultkid how are u feeling today?

cultkid · 20/04/2020 12:12

Hi 💜💜 @user1498572889

Thank you for checking in on me. I'm ok. I'm in bed. My throat is better then it was (still painful) but I am non stop vomiting. I mean NON stop. I've lost over 3 kg in ten days. I am really suffering. The cyclisine was working until I started with the metronidazole and now I can't keep it down. I spent literally the whole night being sick. My husband was cleaning me up and the sick up because I was so bad. I slept less then one hour between 10 pm and 540 am and was being sick bile pretty rapidly.
This morning I was so weak I just sat on the floor and got sick on my self I was so drained.
The GP has finally called me back and said I need another anti emetic to go with it all so now I'll be taking buccastem too
I'm glad because the metronidazole is working but it's just very hard on the body

I am in bad shape I really was panicking before the metronidazole and I was really panicking when I couldn't stop getting sick even water
I'm going to try and see if the buccastem allows me to drink
Feeling so poorly

Thank you for checking in xxx

Oh OP what a shame hope this all ends soon for you , glad DP is being helpful Flowers

Kaykay066 · 20/04/2020 12:36

Sounds horrific Op hopefully your anti emetic works try to drink once it kicks in some sugary diluting juice perhaps sugar will give you some energy it’ll take a while for you to get better but hopefully if you can keep down the metronidazole it should work well, but it can have a horrible effect on some people. Hope your husband is still giving you time to rest and some sympathy. Hope you’re feeling better very soon

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 20/04/2020 12:39

Poor you, you are really going through itFlowers
Could you have picked up a bug or is it the medication?

Wolfiefan · 20/04/2020 12:40

Oh bloody hell OP. I’ve only just seen this thread. You sound like you’re had a complete nightmare. I do hope someone is looking after you. Hoping you feel much better really soon.

cultkid · 20/04/2020 13:11

@GiveMeAllTheGin8 - I think it's just the metrnonidazole. I took it about 4 years ago for a dental infection and I was so so sick from it.
As I keep telling everyone all surgeries I've ever had are easier then this
And I've just gotten my period too 💔 it's been so so scant last month that I thought I may have been pregnant just a couple of drops of blood stained discharge

Last night we were discussing why I've gotten this and I was explaining to my husband that stress literally changes your body's PH and that affects the immune system and he doesn't believe me.
His family have caused me so much heart ache and stress if you look back at my posts they have historically abused my husband
And I've reached my breaking point
I had a sore throat in February and not only that but I also have had a mouth full of ulcers multiple times since Christmas

Something has to give with them.. I'm sure it's effecting my health in multiple ways

I can't believe I've lost over 3kg
I had some weight to lose after having a baby in July but I was 49 kg at the start of April and now 45,9

That's madness

@Wolfiefan My husband is looking after me but he's irritable with everything as I've been sick so long
It makes it tough laying down in bed to try heal

I never get sick! After my most recent baby I was literally cooking dinner the night after I came home

@cultkid that’s so sad that you are still so unwell. Has your doctor done any blood tests?

Nat6999 · 20/04/2020 14:08

Make sure you aren't using anything that has the slightest trace of alcohol in it, including things like mouthwash, Metronidazole has the same things in it as Antabuse they give alcoholics, even spirit vinegar in condiments can cause vomiting.
