cultkid · 15/04/2020 10:38

I can hardly open my mouth 😭 my throat hurts SO much and I have a temperature of 39 at least 3/4 of the day never dropping under 38.5

Please someone help me. The nurse is calling me soon. I can hardly talk. I've been taking co codamol 8/500 and ibuprofen
What can I do for the pain
Have you been prescribed something that helped before
I haven't had a sore throat since I was 16

Please update when you can OP, glad you're being seen!

Reluctantbettlynch · 16/04/2020 21:57

Does it feel like your throat is swollen? Really painful just trying to swallow saliva?

bulletjournalbilly · 16/04/2020 22:06

This sounds like when I had strep. Worst experience of my life, 3 weeks. Let us know how you are OP

carlywurly · 16/04/2020 22:07

I had glandular fever and nearly ended up on a drip. My throat was unbelievably painful. I remember coughing up blood and couldn't eat or talk properly for a good month.

It took a while to get over so rest up and look after yourself, hope you get sorted Thanks

dontdillydallytoolong · 16/04/2020 22:22

Chloraseptic throat spray or Difflam spay completely numbs the throat and will help you get to sleep which is what you really need to recover. Hope you feel better soon xx

Polkadotpjs · 16/04/2020 22:22

Oh gosh that sounds horrendous. I had similar where I couldn't talk and could barely open my mouth and was prescribed an antibiotic I'd not had before and it worked really well so I'm glad you are being seen. Update when you can ? Good luck

dontdillydallytoolong · 16/04/2020 22:23

*Spray not spay clearly 🤦‍♀️

QueenofSwearing · 16/04/2020 22:25

Have you developed thrush in your mouth? The pain doesn't sound normal alongside the red/white patches i would be tempted to think you also have thrush alongside whatever virus you've probably caught.

AbsentmindedWoman · 16/04/2020 22:27

Glad you're being seen OP, I hope they give you some prescription painkillers so that you can get some rest while the antibiotics kick in.

CaptainButtock · 16/04/2020 22:31

Christ that sounds horrendous op. I've had a Quincy and it was unbelievably painful. I also got lock-jaw with it.

Then someone at the hospital said it looked more like glandular fever. I pointed out I'd already had that as teenager and he said 'Ah well that makes more sense then' ??!

Never really got to the bottom of that one...

Do hope you feel better x

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 16/04/2020 22:33

Whiskey. Just let it trickle down your throat. Stings like hell but helps. Other than that try thick drinks like milkshakes and soups. They coat the throat to soothe it.

YouTheCat · 16/04/2020 22:33

I used to regularly get quinsy. One time at out of hours (as I'd collapsed at home) the doctor told me my left tonsil was like a golf ball and I was half a day from being hospitalised.

I've not had a problem (this was nearly 20 years ago) since I had two impacted wisdom teeth out. I reckon it was all the bad bacteria from the teeth.

Jellykat · 16/04/2020 22:40

I too have had Quinsys (4x times now) and couldnt even swallow saliva, its important you drink enough fluids though, as its easy to get dehydrated.
I found aspirin allowed me just enough time and ability to down liquid.

quarantinevibes · 16/04/2020 22:49

How are you now op? Did you call 111? x

Itsjustmee · 16/04/2020 22:51

Dissolvable aspirins and gargle
And crushed ice
It’s the only things that works for me when I get a sore throat

mummymayhem18 · 16/04/2020 22:52

Hope you get sorted x

Lougle · 16/04/2020 22:59

I'm glad you're seeing a GP. All of these ideas alone are really good, but please be careful if trying to combine painkillers when you're poorly. For example, aspirin and ibuprofen are similar so shouldn't be taken together. Dihydrocodeine and Co-codamol shouldn't be combined. Co-codamol has paracetamol in it, as do Lemsips.

BurnIt · 16/04/2020 23:06

Thank goodness someone can see you!

Chickydoo · 16/04/2020 23:16

Sounds grim. I have a sore throat this evening, no idea how I could have picked anything up.
Hope you feel better soon

thaegumathteth · 16/04/2020 23:57

Sounds horrible OP. Dd gets like this with tonsillitis and the antibiotics sometimes take a couple of days to work.

Pieceofpurplesky · 17/04/2020 00:45

Hope you get sorted OP

Levatrice · 17/04/2020 00:54

So glad your getting seen! I had strep throat progressed to quinsy and this sounds like that especially if swallowing saliva is impossible
.

cultkid · 17/04/2020 07:12

@YouTheCat that is so interesting I have 4 impacted teeth one of them is on its side the wrong direction coming out my gum
Its within the last 2-3 months

Oh god

I've just posted a new thread with my throat I think I need to ring 111 again I think I've swollen right up dont know if it's normal
Pain awful
Ooh gp said carry on with anti biotic if it's worse call back
I feel like a nuisance

My husband isn't being so sympathetic 💔 I'm a bit upset
And he's let the house get very very messy
GP said I was totally over exhausted and needed actual bed rest to give myself a chance
I've insisted today but I did get both kids sorted this am
Spent the night having awful and scary night mares I didn't sleep very much at all
At least I am in bed at the moment
I want my mum

DH needs to take over house & kids and allow proper bed rest. Hope you feel better soon.
