Am actually gutted as they are my favourite clothes shops - aibu to think this is going to be the end of the highstreet? Can’t imagine Dorothy Perkins/ new look etc are far behind them. The end of fast fashion is no bad thing but it’s really shocking too

Oh no! This is awful news! So sad for the high street and the people working there. I'm gutted too as most of my wardrobe is from oasis!

ChocolateDove · 14/04/2020 18:52

That sucks. Sad I quite liked them too.

Hope no more go under but I think they will.

zigzagbetty · 14/04/2020 18:54

I thought oasis had gone years ago?

MrsFionaCharming · 14/04/2020 18:56

I don’t know if it’s just the high street, Lindy Bop have just gone into administration, and they were online only.

PumpkinP · 14/04/2020 19:00

Thought they already had

Qwerty543 · 14/04/2020 19:00

Noooo!!! I love Oasis. They are my go to shop and half my wardrobe (probably more) is from there. Where will I shop now?

YeahWhatevver · 14/04/2020 19:03

Wonder who's next, most of the retail sector must be in a shaky position.

Gwynfluff · 14/04/2020 19:06

Dorothy Perkins is an arcadia brand with topshop, Wallis - the rand is struggling and Philip Green is not popular - trying to get bail outs while he is an offshore billionaire.

Oasis and warehouse were in with Coast and Karen Millen. Latter were brought by Boo Hoo and are online only and struggling to survive. Of the other two, prefer warehouse. But both are heavily dependent on Debenhams concessions and that’s not a good base...

For 5-10 years, safest high street have been indetix - they own zara, pull and bear and H&M - own H&M, Monki, Weekday, Arket, &otherstories and Cos and I prefer them to be fair.

However, Indetix and H&M are very conservative with store purchases.
Stick to very big cities and don’t do concessions.

High end British high street - jigsaw and whistles are struggling and have been for years. Were brought out 5-10 years ago but they are offering big discounts in the last month and not sure if prior restructuring is going to save them.

Primark is fine, Next has wobbled but is surviving (shouldn’t have opened all the out of town superstores). Department stores are completely on the brink but have been for a while.

Going back to be interesting this one.

PepePig · 14/04/2020 19:13

I'm surprised they hadn't gone under years ago. Would never think to shop there and I think their stuff is overpriced for how basic/uninspired it is.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 14/04/2020 19:19

They’ve gone bust before, and from what I understand the current owners were trying to offload them long before the coronavirus situation.

They clearly aren’t viable businesses as they stand, which is why no one seems to be able to make a go of them.

Boogiewoogietoo · 14/04/2020 19:20

I love Oasis, so sad to read this Sad

MissDollyMix · 14/04/2020 19:24

Very disappointed. Both of these were my high street ‘go-tos’. They had a niche in the market that isn’t quite occupied by any other retailer. Maybe Zara, but I’ve never been wowed by much in there. I could easily spend £££ in Oasis on a good day.

CoolCarrie · 14/04/2020 19:24

I am sad to read about Lindy Bop, I like quirky clothes.

Devlesko · 14/04/2020 19:25

It's a shame but The High Street really went quite some time ago.
DP, Wallis, et al all went into Debenhams.
I think it was inevitable even without coronavirus.
So many people shop online now, the high street has been dead for some time.

Hollyhead · 14/04/2020 19:27

Nooo Warehouse is brilliant, their cuts always fit me well, oasis has been shit for a while.

Gwenhwyfar · 14/04/2020 19:30

I'm sad. I shopped at both though I find them a bit expensive and often have to wait for the sales. My favourite jeans that I wear all the time and can't find a replacement for is from one of them :(

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 14/04/2020 19:31

I think they are both rubbish. Never even go in them. I remember Warehouse in its heyday and it was fantastic.

I notice that Zara, H and M , Cos Arket, Uniqlo are still ok. Says it all really

EmmaC78 · 14/04/2020 19:31

I am disappointed too. I shop in Oasis a lot although I do find them expensive for the quality so normally wait for the sale.

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 14/04/2020 19:32

Another one here who thought they’d already gone! The one in our town closed around 4 years ago.

Always a shame for people to lose jobs though. I believe Cath Kidston has gone under too.

KittyMcTitty · 14/04/2020 19:32

I’m gutted - I loved both of those and now it’s going to be really easy to see how old my wardrobe is!
I was also sad about Lindy bop - ordered my first dress from there the other day and it was lovely - was going to order another.
I wonder what happens to all the stock? (Not to mention how terrible this is for the staff)

GameSetMatch · 14/04/2020 19:35

Wearhouse went off my high street years ago, I'm more surprise it’s still going.

BanningTheWordNaice · 14/04/2020 19:36

Gutted about Oasis - funnily enough loads of people ask me where I’ve bought something from and are surprised when I say Oasis, they then admit they’d never seen anything like what I was wearing in there.

Freddiefox · 14/04/2020 19:41

Didn’t lots of oasis shops clothes before the virus, I think they only had concessions stores left a few months ago

penberrh · 14/04/2020 19:43

I can't understand clothes shops disappearing from the high street. Clothes are a 'try before you buy item' and not logically suitable to online-only competitors.

MamaBearLockdown · 14/04/2020 19:43

Lindy Bop have just gone into administration

oh crap, love Lindy Bop! And Oasis!
