to be watching with my jaw dropped as Trump goes into full meltdown at his press briefing?

Is anyone else watching this?! He is literally ranting like a man possessed, I've never seen anything like it. He's declared war on the media (I know we're used to him lashing out at journalists but this is on another level)

I'm watching it on CNN and they have breaking news straplines like "Trump uses task force briefing to rewrite history on coronavirus response", "Angry Trump turns briefing into propaganda session" and "Angry Trump uses propaganda video, produced by government employees at taxpayers' expense"

He has just said, verbatim: "When somebody is President of the United States, that authority is total"

I thought our daily briefings were bullshit Shock

You’re right about the buzz words, the taking praise for good decisions, deflecting bad decisions, no real information.

What annoys me is he’s so patronising towards woman .... who votes for this idiot?

It almost seems cult like?

BruceAndNosh · 15/04/2020 11:01

I've seen one of Michael Spicer's videos before but this one was even funnier (and only partly because Trump was more incoherent than ever)
The "spat my tea out" is vastly overused online, but I did actually have to put my mug down for safety.

You KNOW that there is a real life Spicer counterpart backstage tearing up his briefing notes and kicking the monitor

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 15/04/2020 11:24

Old but gold.

GreenTulips Funny you should say that, I was just talking to my DSis and we were saying exactly that- it's like a cult and he's the charismatic leader - the David Koresh of the American right wing

user1471565182 · 15/04/2020 13:22

BTW he stands like that because he wears risers in his shoes.

AnnofPeeves · 15/04/2020 13:33

Yes I know it's childish but this picture of him makes me laugh every time.

That Michael Spicer video is brilliant. I haven’t seen that one.

AnnofPeeves · 15/04/2020 13:55

Seth Meyer is always worth a watch too

Do you remember Trump arguing that more people attended his inauguration compared with Obama’s?

theschoolonthehill · 15/04/2020 14:37

JUST IN: In an unprecedented move, Trump is forcing the IRS to print HIS NAME on stimulus checks, a process that is expected to slow their delivery by several days.

It just gets worse. He is becoming a dictator.

Klonda · 15/04/2020 17:35

Such a sad little man.

Some interesting comments on this thread. Hillary for me blew it when she called American voters 'deplorables'. The word encapsulated the out of touch entitlement, superiority, and tone-deaf elitism of the liberal left both in the US and the UK. I'm no expert on American politics but my guess is that many were so pissed off with her attitude that they either stayed at home or voted for Trump. I remember my reaction when I heard Trump had won - I was devastated, but my first thought was - this was a protest vote and millions of Americans must feel totally disenfranchised.

The Liberal media, as has been pointed out on this thread, goes on in Hillary's vein of speaking only to one camp - and ignoring huge swathes of the population. The country is so polarised and this is reflected in the media. There is no BBC to even attempt to be representative or balanced in any way.

Loving that his Jan 24th supportive tweet of China and their transparency is coming back to haunt him. Going after the WHO is his typical style, deflect, deflect, deflect.

He is a bit late the the criticism of the WHO, experts have been criticising them for several weeks now. He belatedly jumped on the bandwagon as he found his opportunity to push the blame elsewhere. He is the biggest idiot ever to get the opportunity to make a public statement.

Parker231 · 15/04/2020 21:57

He’s now blaming the WHO to try and deflect the criticism from his lack of action. He needs to remember there are c190 countries in the WHO; the US is only one.

KayakingOnDown · 15/04/2020 22:08

The US is the biggest donor to the WHO and gives 10 times more than China, so I can understand the irritation, especially as they a seemed to be bending over backwards to placate the Chinese and parroted their lies back in January, wasting precious weeks if not months. The WHO has a lot to answer for.

Like with NATO and other countries not coughing up, he has a point.

Parker231 · 15/04/2020 22:40

The WHO issued worldwide guidance on the coronavirus on 10 January. Trump ignored it and now refuses to accept any blame.

GoFiguire · 15/04/2020 22:55

When did Donald Trump change his hair colour? I thought he was blonde.

Peregrina · 15/04/2020 23:22

Perhaps he can't get his regular hair dye?

AnnofPeeves · 15/04/2020 23:53

Blonde is a bit kind, more of a nicotine yellow I'd say. He's dyed his hair very strangely. So must men grey at the temples, and maintain their natural colour on top. He's dyed it grey on top and dark on his temples.

GoFiguire · 15/04/2020 23:59

Did this happen overnight? I’m sure he was blond/nicotine yesterday.

Klonda · 16/04/2020 01:11

The US is the biggest donor to the WHO and gives 10 times more than China
That's a big exaggeration, it's about twice as much. Countries' contributions to the WHO are based on a formula taking into account population size and wealth (so China could well take over as the biggest contributor before long).

theschoolonthehill · 16/04/2020 03:56

In the interests of research, I went back over his daily rants. Two days ago his hair was a nicotine colour. Today much greyer (better). Yesterday his briefing was outside and it was a yellowish colour. It could be the changing sunlight though so the jury is out over which day he changed it........

Does he wear fake tan on his face or make up? The areas around his eyes are very pale compared to his 'complexion'.

Not sure if you’re all aware, but over on the Trump threads we’ve been tracking these types of shenanigans since Trump‘s campaign trail. We’re up to thread no. 100. Join us as you sound like our kind of people!

GoFiguire · 16/04/2020 08:15

Thanks claws - but do you discuss his hair colour?

nolongersurprised · 16/04/2020 08:24

I feel like I’m watching a descent into dementia. He slurs and perseverates and there’s that weird word salad thing. But if you watch with the sound down he also sways and jerks his body. His gait and arm swing are off. He either seems elevated (high) or sedated (increased slurring).

I don’t like him at all but I’m worried for him.
