to be watching with my jaw dropped as Trump goes into full meltdown at his press briefing?

Is anyone else watching this?! He is literally ranting like a man possessed, I've never seen anything like it. He's declared war on the media (I know we're used to him lashing out at journalists but this is on another level)

I'm watching it on CNN and they have breaking news straplines like "Trump uses task force briefing to rewrite history on coronavirus response", "Angry Trump turns briefing into propaganda session" and "Angry Trump uses propaganda video, produced by government employees at taxpayers' expense"

He has just said, verbatim: "When somebody is President of the United States, that authority is total"

I thought our daily briefings were bullshit Shock

@DarkDarkNight , thank you!

Lollygaggles · 14/04/2020 00:47

There's a good case made about him having dementia actually. Have you seen this?

Trump’s Frontotemporal Dementia symptoms

GreenTulips · 14/04/2020 00:47

Any links?

DarkDarkNight · 14/04/2020 00:49

Here’s something from CNN about the total authority claim:

He's a complete embarrassment. I've been watching - well until I find it too uncomfortable to look!! God, what a total dick.

Leaannb · 14/04/2020 00:52

Its a fucking train wreck and I'm hoping his little statement of him having absolute power will wake the fuck out of these people over here. Because he doesn't. He just has his knickers in a twist because a lot of states (most of them) are chatting with their neighbors so they can open up their state economies

DarkDarkNight · 14/04/2020 00:53

Can anyone who knows abou US politics say why is he allowed to include his family in the way he does?

It seems crazy. Apparently his Daughter and her Husband are involved in talks about when to end Lockdown. How does he get away with that? It’s like some kind of confidence trick. If it were Hillary and Chelsea Clinton can you imagine the uproar?

Ipadipod · 14/04/2020 00:54

Lollygaggles interesting and worrying! I cringe watching him .

KrakowDawn · 14/04/2020 00:55

I just cannot get over how high his approval ratings are. It really does seem that it does not matter one joy how outrageous his actions- people still want him in charge.

On a side note- I used to love The Bobbsey Twins books!

Zombiemum1946 · 14/04/2020 00:56

Watching in the UK and I have to turn the sound down now when he's on. If I want to watch what's happening in the US regards covid 19 I watch Gov Cuomo briefings.

MigginsMs · 14/04/2020 00:56

I am so afraid for the USA :(

My friends and family there can’t even watch or listen to him any more, they say it’s just total insanity

Coyoacan · 14/04/2020 01:01

I never follow Trump but by accident I saw a clip of him the other night saying that the federal government's stockpile of ventilators and PPE is only for the federal governments, not for the states. To say I was gobsmacked is an understatement. It doesn't even make sense.

theschoolonthehill · 14/04/2020 01:02

He said the WHO and the WTO are the 'Bobsy Twins'.

Chienloup · 14/04/2020 01:02

I've been watching his daily briefings for a couple of weeks (they make me feel better about ours) and it is utterly terrifying. Fauci was even asked tonight if he was speaking against his will - he will be the fall guy in this, just as David Kelly was here, I just hope he doesn't end up the same way.

People will still vote for him - they'll be nodding along when he says that he, as President, has absolute power, even though they know it is totally untrue.

His whole demeanour is just so unseemly, he's like a child-dictator having tantrums all the time and bullying people.

Alialialiali · 14/04/2020 01:05

I dislike Donald Trump, but he's right about the press. No one answered his question though, Why were the press and the rest of the politicians and public, destroying him when back in Jan he banned all Chinese flights??
There was no answer to that apart from "well what did you do with the time you bought yourself".. it's ridiculous. And also I didn't really see a meltdown like you're suggesting.
It's a sad state of affairs though that this is what politics has become. A grown man standing in front of a presentation that's essentially bullshit and smirking like he's the teacher's pet. Don't blame him though. He just exists as he is. The stupid system has become so pointless that this man can and does have absolute power whilst having no brain at all.

theschoolonthehill · 14/04/2020 01:06

Apparently his Daughter and her Husband are involved in talks about when to end Lockdown. How does he get away with that? It’s like some kind of confidence trick.

DH and I had this conversation earlier. We are baffled. Watching his daughter and son in law in talks. None of them have any prior experience in politics yet they are leading a country. Terrifying.

Outtedagain · 14/04/2020 01:08

Ali
Does he have absolute power.... don’t think so ?

managedmis · 14/04/2020 01:08

Is he actually ill?

MarshaBradyo · 14/04/2020 01:11

Yet his ratings are ok? What’s it like being there is that understandable?

Cherrysoup · 14/04/2020 01:14

And he still has an approval rating of 48%,
How?

Honestly, it’s like a hypnotist trick, he has seriously somehow convinced 48% that he is right, clever, worthy of being re-elected when he’s clueless and stupid. It’s unbelievable that a man of so little intelligence has managed to climb so high.

theschoolonthehill · 14/04/2020 01:20

I regularly read posts 'praying for President Trump' on my FB page from a couple of people I grew up with who now live in the US. They wouldn't ever have been the sharpest tools in the box when I knew them tbh.

TomPinch · 14/04/2020 01:21

I'm not in the US, but I do know a small number of people who are fans of Donald Trump.

They simply bracket out any criticism of him, or, if they can, they say it's fabricated. Their support for him is atavistic, an article of faith. They are men, and I think they admire him because he's the Big Man in their eyes, and they think that gives him the right to behave as he does.

They are simply desperate to believe him against all the evidence.

It's horrific and fascinating to observe.
