To be annoyed about my neighbours complaining

About my children playing in the garden? And us playing music over the bank holiday weekend (not loud)? The children only play out when its nice weather so not that much, I’m happy they are outside and not stucknto ipads etc!

If your neighbour can hear your music it's too loud. If you must listen to music wear headphones or play it inside with your doors closed. When did it become ok to inflict other people with your choice in music. Kids playing are fine but if they're screeching at the top of their lungs and you're not doing anything to keep the noise at a respectful level then you're ignorant and selfish

floris82 · 14/04/2020 11:29

The noise of children playing doesn't bother me. As a semi retiree I love hearing the noise of a school playground. Music shouldn't be played all night which is what our neighbours have done for three weeks now. The drum of the Base note has meant I can't sleep. I put a post on this morning. The grandkids living next door are 3 and 10 months. The music throbs can it affect the children's hearing?

MellowMelly · 14/04/2020 11:30

The sound of children playing happily and laughing with a little odd squabble here and there is lovely. It takes me back to long summer holidays with my sister and cousins growing up.
Music is fine if it’s just ‘softly’ there in the air. I’m ok with it as long as we can still sit in our garden and hear each other at perfectly normal talking levels.

I did laugh this weekend though as I had a real concoction going on around me. Next door neighbours playing Polish music, neighbour 3 doors up was playing Opera and neighbours 2 doors down was playing Bob Marley. It just turned into one mass ear gloop for me.

fourpeasinapod · 14/04/2020 11:31

For them playing I see no problem, not unless They’re being really loud and annoying.

For music, yeah I can see their point. It must be quite loud if they’re complaining. So it either needs turned down or can they not use earphones?

FaFoutis · 14/04/2020 11:34

No music. That's a terrible thing to do to other people.

HarrySnotter · 14/04/2020 11:41

Hang on people, @Jengnr has decreed there's nothing wrong with it so that's that sorted.

I think we can all imagine the kind of neighbours some of the posters on here make ...

ThePants999 · 14/04/2020 11:46

Another one coming onto AIBU only looking for validation. If you're not going to listen to anyone who disagrees with you, don't bloody post in the first place.

Butterfly98 · 14/04/2020 11:48

I still can't believe the angst on MN over music being played in the garden! Fair enough if it's really loud but not if it's played at a normal decibel surely?! I can honestly say I've never even thought about my ND neighbours music being a problem! Out of interest do people here have a problem with others playing music at the seaside on a sunny day? That's a regular scenario with kids making sandcastles while the barbecue is cooking and music is playing.. would you go up to their parents and ask them to turn the music off? You all sound like 85 year old pearl clutching complainers! I'd be embarrassed to act like that!

daisypond · 14/04/2020 11:54

Of course that’s a problem. It’s selfish. Playing music on the beach would be awful. I’ve never come across it, though, so it’s definitely not a regular scenario.

Likethebattle · 14/04/2020 11:55

Hate being inflicted with other people’s music, I want to listen to birds, traffics, lawnmowers etc not your bloody choice of music!

MarieQueenofScots · 14/04/2020 11:57

I have literally never come across anyone either playing music or having a barbecue on a beach. Thankfully.

Both are incredibly anti-social.

Aesopfable · 14/04/2020 11:58

Pearl clutching now if we consider our impact on other people and show some consideration?

What is this obsession with the need to put noise into everything? To inflict your noise on others regardless? And yes at the beach I don't want to have to listen to your choice of music. I don't want to have to listen to your music on the train, at midnight when I am trying to sleep, in the cinema when watching a film, when I go for a walk in the woods, in my garden when listening to the birds, in hospital or anywhere else. Playing music outside or in public is an incredibly selfish act.

Willow2017 · 14/04/2020 11:58

Music at a decent level is fine. If all your neighbours are complaining then its too loud.
If you are putting it up loud so shrieking screaming kids can hear it then the two combined is just loud competing noises and defeats the purpose of enjoying it.

FaFoutis · 14/04/2020 11:59

do people here have a problem with others playing music at the seaside on a sunny day?

Yes. That's equally shit.

Summersun77 · 14/04/2020 12:02

@MaccaPacca81 what’s a chav?

Hingeandbracket · 14/04/2020 12:03

Out of interest do people here have a problem with others playing music at the seaside on a sunny day?
Yes, and on trains etc
Why should I be forced to listen to your choice of music? It's selfish.

80sMum · 14/04/2020 12:03

YABVU and selfish to play music outdoors! If you want to listen to music outside, use headphones! Not doing so shows a total lack of consideration for your neighbours.

Aesopfable · 14/04/2020 12:04

Summersum someone who thinks it is OK to play their music in public and inflict it on others

Hingeandbracket · 14/04/2020 12:04

What is this obsession with the need to put noise into everything? To inflict your noise on others regardless?

Exactly - and half these noisy cunts aren't even listening to the fucking music they are inflicting on the rest of us.

Hingeandbracket · 14/04/2020 12:06

You all sound like 85 year old pearl clutching complainers! I'd be embarrassed to act like that!

I'd be embarrassed to be so unselfconscious about my ageism and to use so many exclamation marks, but we're all different.

Summersun77 · 14/04/2020 12:07

@Aesopfable no it isn’t and you know full well it’s not. I was asking @MaccaPacca81 anyway not you.

Summersun77 · 14/04/2020 12:08

@Jengnr agreed! Most of Mumsnet live on another fucking planet Grin glad my neighbours haven’t got a massive stick up their arse like these. What a miserable existence

AtrociousCircumstance · 14/04/2020 12:10

Children playing YANBU

Music - YABU. Selfish. It affects everyone in a large radius. Stop it.

Schuyler · 14/04/2020 12:10

Children playing is a nice sound, even if a little noisy, as long as it’s not 5 am! YANBU to let your children play outside.

YABU about the music. I’m sure you think you have awesome taste in music but I’m sure not everybody likes it. Why do you need it outside? It’s lockdown, most people are stuck at home nearly all of the time. Don’t be a dick, play your music inside.

80sMum · 14/04/2020 12:11

do people here have a problem with others playing music at the seaside on a sunny day?

Yes! I have a big problem with that! It's utterly selfish and inconsiderate behaviour.

Imo such behaviour should be punished by the judicious application of a couple of large buckets of cold seawater, either to be deposited over the errant person himself/herself or over the equipment they're using to inflict their unwelcome racket on everybody else!
