New book brought into the house

CurtainWitcher · 13/04/2020 19:37

Book delivered by Amazon. I put the packaging straight in the recycling, but brought the book straight into the house. It's now on the coffee table.
DH said I should have put it in the garage for 72 hours. Should i?

Oh brave new world where only those with garages will survive. We don't have a garage so clearly we're screwed...

turnthebiglightoff · 14/04/2020 08:26

@Boshmama you read my thoughts. Grips are needed.

QuimJongUn · 14/04/2020 08:43

@Rockbird yep, that's me fucked too.

Rhianna1980 · 14/04/2020 08:43

@CurtainWitcher everything should be treated as if it is contaminated. Yes I quarantine everything and if it needs the fridge it gets disinfected.

MinorArcana · 14/04/2020 09:18

TBH if we did get Coronavirus, I’d be blaming DH’s key worker job, not the fact that we’re not quarantining the contents of our parcels for 72 hours.

DarcyParty · 14/04/2020 09:34

Burn it. Then burn the house just in case.

Umnoway · 14/04/2020 09:36

I’ve ordered all sorts online since lockdown commenced. I bin the packaging straight away and wash my hands thoroughly but honestly doubt it could survive on the actual products I’ve ordered that long. Most deliveries are taking a while nowadays.

jillb55 · 14/04/2020 17:26

I think any trace of the virus would have disappeared from the contents during the time from wrapping to unwrapping.

Gromit78 · 14/04/2020 17:28

I don't think Covid 19 lasts that long on the packaged parcel. If there was an issue we would have been informed on what to do with deliveries. I just washed my hands after handling the outer box from a delivery I got today

Passenger42 · 14/04/2020 17:30

Download to kindle app onto your iPad and purchase books for 99p to download straight onto your device. Can read immediately with no virus worries

expatinspain · 14/04/2020 17:33

Are you serious?! 😳

Stressybetty · 14/04/2020 17:33

We have made up diluted disinfectant in a spray bottle and spraying everything that comes into the house, food shopping, post, parcels, our shoes etc. Its just not worth the worry and takes seconds.

stuckindoors77 · 14/04/2020 17:33

I've just been giving things a bit of a wipe over with zoflora then washing my hands/surfaces etc after they're unpacked. I thought I was doing quite well Shock

PleasantVille · 14/04/2020 17:34

Download to kindle app onto your iPad

Not only will people without garages fall victim to the virus now we have people without iPads at risk too. Who knew these would be essential items for lockdown survival, anything else that I'm missing that is increasing my risk factors?

cloudspotter · 14/04/2020 17:36

I'm not bothering tbh. I know others who are diligently wiping everything down after delivery.

I guess it depends on your risk averseness and germphobic tendencies.

purplebunny2012 · 14/04/2020 17:41

I quarantine packages for a day (or 3 if plastic) then open and discarded the packaging. Not really doing anything different with the contents once open.
If it's something urgent I open and wash hands after disposing of packaging

Passenger42 · 14/04/2020 17:41

Kindle books are much cheaper than ordering books through the post, yes but I agree you do need a devise like an iPad mini to get the free app. However technology is pretty important during this lockdown lol plus I can’t be bothered to wait for the postman

Shell4429 · 14/04/2020 17:45

I can’t believe people are getting so worked up about this. If it was that easy to catch there would be a lot more cases.

BurneyFanny · 14/04/2020 17:47

YABU for ordering unnecessary stuff from Amazon and exposing their inadequately protected workers to the virus even more. Get your books as downloads or from independent shops that need the trade.

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 14/04/2020 17:48

WTF! Are you saying you don't have a bucket of bleach at the front door to dunk all packages and shopping in?

Carpedimum · 14/04/2020 17:49

@Inthemuckheap
“I do wish common sense was a teachable skill.”
I couldn’t have put it better - if you could teach common sense, you’d be richer than Jeff Bezos & Bill Gates put together!

Lifeisgenerallyfun · 14/04/2020 17:56

@Rockbird - me too, take some soma -it will be fine😉

Nearly47 · 14/04/2020 18:03

I've been wiping all the shopping with a bleach solution. Deliveries packaging are discarded and hands washed but I assume that taking into account the sorting and delivery is unlikely that the contents have been touched on the last 72 hours. So it should be virus free.
I think that eventually everyone will catch this virus but I will do anything I can to delay catching it in the hope a cure or a vaccine is found soon ...

user1472151176 · 14/04/2020 18:03

Yup. I wash everything or leave it for 72. All my shopping is washed too

Ratoncita · 14/04/2020 18:09

Mumsnet - where people bleach their shopping while wearing their outdoor shoes inside! 🤷‍♀️😂
