To hire a private field to walk dog and have a sandwich?

Is this a reasonable or unreasonable thing to do.

2 mile car journey required.

Couple had a sarnie on a blanket whilst the dog "zoomed" around.

Since when has a field been a household?

EmeraldShamrock · 15/04/2020 13:10

Since when does daily exercise require a picnic.

fascinated · 15/04/2020 13:12

Doesn’t require it but how does it increase spread of the virus!?

Alsohuman · 15/04/2020 13:12

Since when does a sandwich constitute a picnic?

Blackandgreenteas · 15/04/2020 13:13

Thing is, they aren’t actually going to be infecting anyone while in their car. It might technically be a breach but it wouldn’t bother me.

Porcupineinwaiting · 15/04/2020 13:15

Not seeing the problem personally.

DaisyDreaming · 15/04/2020 13:20

Sounds safer than walking in crowded places!

gottogonow · 15/04/2020 14:17

With regard to unnecessary car travel, generally using the car for this type of purpose would lead to more people needing to fill their cars up with petrol and possible car break downs requiring social interaction. So if everyone made a little exception along these lines the burden would be increased, hence advice to only travel in car if necessary. We have been doing all our exercise from home even if it is busier than normal, for this reason. Only car travel has been for delivering food to those isolating. As has been said, if you’re asking is it okay, it usually isn’t.

Lincolnfield · 15/04/2020 14:32

@gottogonow - so judgmental! I set off to do my shopping at 8am yesterday morning. Car not moved for four weeks so battery was totally dead.

Husband charged it up and I took my car for a run up and down a dual carriageway to put a bit more power in the battery and also give the wheels a turn. If you knew anything about cars you might know that a vehicle resting on the same area of its tyres for any length of time weakens the tyres and could cause a blow out.

I’m telling you so you can report me to the Stasi. Oh - and I didn’t get my shopping either.

It's a tough one. On the one hand, yes, they shouldn't be travelling in a car to exercise, it's supposed to be near your house. On the other hand, they'll be coming into contact with far less people than at the local park.

This getting so old now. When was the last time your car broke down? In my case it was 2012. And mine does 500+ miles to a tank, in normal times I fill up once a month tops.

With regard to unnecessary car travel, generally using the car for this type of purpose would lead to more people needing to fill their cars up with petrol and possible car break downs requiring social interaction Grin My car has moved 3 times in a fortnight, 2 for dog walks. I had half a tank of petrol, I still almost do.

And the last time I broke down was sometime back in the 90s.

As that awful social adage goes - you do you....

You are allowed to travel a reasonable distance for exercise. The self appointed Covid police need to stop making up their own rules.

Why are people saying no travel between households? They travelled as a household to a fucking field, not someone's house.

FlamingoAndJohn · 15/04/2020 15:02

I too am amazed that you can hire a field by the hour.
I don’t understand why the needed to take a sandwich with them.
Going to the field seems reasonable, I don’t see the point in the sandwich but that’s how some people want to live their lives.

ohthepigeons · 15/04/2020 15:15

If you care about the Nhs this seems like a more sensible idea for them than exercising in their usual, busy area.

rookiemere · 15/04/2020 15:18

"I don't see the point in the sandwich " Well I guess one usually eats food when hungry. HTH.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 15/04/2020 15:19

I don’t understand why the needed to take a sandwich with them. Well, I can tell you why we took a picnic. Because we had an hour booked, the dog to play with and it was a nice day.

Nobody else could use the field during our booking time. The dog got exercised, we had an hour of almost normality. It was very pleasant. We're going again tomorrow, probably with another picnic!

FlamingoAndJohn · 15/04/2020 15:24

Well I guess one usually eats food when hungry.

Yes, but I don’t find driving to a field so strenuous that I need a sandwich to recover.

OhCaptain · 15/04/2020 15:28

I’m sure they didn’t eat because the drive was strenuous. 🙄

But because they’d booked and paid for the field, and they decided to enjoy the nice weather and fresh air by having a picnic.

Is that really that difficult for you to comprehend?

FlamingoAndJohn · 15/04/2020 15:28

But I thought it had been established that it wasn’t a picnic.

OhCaptain · 15/04/2020 15:30

Well a sandwich outside then.

For the enjoyment of it not because the drive was strenuous.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 15/04/2020 15:35

But I thought it had been established that it wasn’t a picnic. OPs wasn't. MIne most certainly was, and shall be again!

Ninkanink · 15/04/2020 15:35

Lol some people must surely be trolling...

No one is that stupid.

Oh wait...many people evidently are.

choli · 15/04/2020 17:03

I am 58 years old and I have never had a breakdown.

As far as the sandwich is concerned some people seem to have an issue with people actually enjoying the time they spend outside. Wear your own sackcloth and ashes, don't expect others to comply with your views.

sonjadog · 15/04/2020 17:08

What is wrong with sitting alone in a field eating a sandwich? Whether you personally would are not is irrelevant. If someone else wants to, why shouldn’t they?
