To hire a private field to walk dog and have a sandwich?

Is this a reasonable or unreasonable thing to do.

2 mile car journey required.

Couple had a sarnie on a blanket whilst the dog "zoomed" around.

Was the code pad disinfected? If the field is being rented out to numerous people the virus can be on the code pad, gate handle and even on the grass they sit on if they happen to choose the same spot as the person right before them!
Do you honestly think that someone who bothers to rent a field to maintain social distancing would not have the wit to use a barrier such as a stick or paper towel to use the keypad and gate handle? Ditto for the petrol pump. As for the grass, that is reaching into the realms of the ridiculous.

It seems that many MN members would fit in well in 1984.

TARSCOUT · 14/04/2020 21:25

Wish I could find a field to hire. Not unreasonable. Short journey, no interaction with people. Would rather do this than go to supermarket once a week. Current dog walk area now inundated by people if I miss my 6.45am timeslot!.

niugboo · 14/04/2020 22:25

@Shitsgettingcrazy picnic.

Shitsgettingcrazy · 14/04/2020 22:31

@niugboo nope. Not in a private field, with members of her household.

Choccylips · 14/04/2020 22:42

Yes, Dog police, Sandwich police and blanket on the ground police, big brother will be so pleased with this one.

Rachel709 · 15/04/2020 00:20

Totally against the rules.

Ninkanink · 15/04/2020 01:44

No...it really isn’t.

Bella2020 · 15/04/2020 01:59

Off the point here, but they hire a field?!

Unnecessary travel, so not really in the spirit of the guidelines.

Gingerkittykat · 15/04/2020 02:54

Sounds like a great idea, they are putting money into a small business by hiring the field, getting some fresh air, exercising their dog and staying away from others. Who the fuck cares if they had a sandwich.

And why the hell is someone posting about driving 50 miles to home depot, are you deliberately trying to shit stir? It's not even in the UK as far as I know so why is it relevant?

Mintjulia · 15/04/2020 03:02

If the field is only two miles away, why don’t they walk the dog there and back? Dog and humans get their exercise for the day, avoidIng unnecessary car journey.

wheresthehope · 15/04/2020 03:07

I drive to places to walk my dogs as everywhere close to home is inundated with dogs that weren’t around before lockdown. Safer to drive couple of miles than to run into other people and dogs and my dogs get a good run. Sitting in grass having a sandwich is good for mental health no? Fresh air is good for mental health aswel. Don’t see the need for it to be an issue

Shitsgettingcrazy · 15/04/2020 05:46

No it's not. If you read the thread you can see it's been confirmed by several police forces, that short travel for exercise is fine.

Our police force have confirmed to a similar set up, it was fine to open and people could arrive by car. They recommended she didnt encourage people to travel very far. But that yes, people were allowed to drive to her.

winniestone37 · 15/04/2020 07:44

Look, get a life. Yes it’s a lockdown life but you are being a busy body.

Qgardens · 15/04/2020 07:50

Common sense says that this is the better option.

TheMandalorian · 15/04/2020 07:55

I dont see a problem with this.

HugeAckmansWife · 15/04/2020 07:56

Bella and mint if you rtft you'll see your points have been made and answered several times over. Its not breaking the law, there is no 'spirit' which is somehow different to the actual law and a car journey of two miles which allows fewer social interactions than a two mile walk makes perfect sense. See my earlier post re the liklihood of 'risk' on a two mile journey at this time.

Hanywany · 15/04/2020 09:38

If they are rich do they have their own land!? If they do why cant they walk the dog on there own land? Some people just have no imagination! Hmm

Pinkarsedfly · 15/04/2020 09:47

My favourite quotes from this thread,

“It’s the field equivalent of a second home’

And

‘It normalises picnicing’

Comedy gold. When all this is over I’m including them when I write my CV equivalent of Dad’s Army.

choli · 15/04/2020 10:03

‘It normalises picnicing’
Indeed. The horror.

I suspect a lot of MN will look back in a few months and feel very silly.

batvixen123 · 15/04/2020 10:06

It's been answered earlier on the thread. Dog is a rescue who is reactive to traffic and can't be walked along the side of the road.

choli · 15/04/2020 10:07

Good on you and it’s totally acceptable unless you belong to the let’s make this nightmare worse for people coz we are jealous of them
Bingo. I see it all over these threads - she has something I don't, it's not fair!

Ninkanink · 15/04/2020 11:01

@choli sadly I don’t think so. Lemming-like brains can only comprehend lemming-like ‘logic.’ They’ll be ever-convinced that they were right.

niugboo · 15/04/2020 12:03

Yes. You aren’t allowed to travel between households in that way.

Ninkanink · 15/04/2020 12:09

Between households? What are you on about? Don’t talk about things you don’t understand.
