@LeoTimmyandVi The word "doff" gives me inexplicable rage - as a nurse on an admissions unit this means I'm spending most of my shifts silently seething Grin

ComeOnGordon · 13/04/2020 17:02

@bettybattenburg names were obviously changed to protect the fuck wit relative and I realise IKEA has been shut for a few weeks but I’ll never forget how stupid she was

Squigglypig2 · 13/04/2020 17:03

Lockdown

Hannah021 · 13/04/2020 17:04

"are we allowed to [fill in the gap]"

bettybattenburg · 13/04/2020 17:24

@comeongordon I'm not surprised you were annoyed. It just made me laugh to see my 'name' even though what your relative did wasn't funny.

cryinglightning · 13/04/2020 17:43

Stay home, save lives. Aghhhh!

Beepboop22 · 13/04/2020 17:59

Shielding
Isolating
"We're all in this together"
Quarantine
Key workers
Essential items
"at this time" / "during this time"/ "during this uncertain/worrying/troubling/ difficult/daunting/unprecedented [delete as appropriate] time"
"hope this email finds you well, and that you're staying safe at home"

LorneSausage · 13/04/2020 18:09

Straining every sinew

RandomLondoner · 13/04/2020 18:17

It's stay AT home

I didn't understand this. It sounds like this is a grammar objection, but "stay home" sounds find to me. I googled it. Apparently "stay home" is fine, but it's a bit of an exception to the general rules. Something to do with "home" being both a preposition and a noun.

(Further googling points out that "stay at home" and "stay home" don't always have the same meaning, it depends on the context. Someone attending a conference in their own city might tell a colleague they were going to "stay at home", rather than at a hotel, but if they said they were going to "stay home", that would imply they weren't going to leave home for a few hours to attend the conference.)

ilovecakeandwine · 13/04/2020 18:20

“You are only allowed to exercise for a maximum of 1 hour a day” argh!!!
I'm the same for some reason it gives me the rage !!
Also people saying
Will people stop going out I'd like to see my family at some point this year .
We need a tougher lockdown !!

CoronaIsComing · 13/04/2020 18:22

“When all this is over...” seems to be the only thing we say these days!

panicstationsready · 13/04/2020 18:28

Clap for X, Y or Z

This. We are not clapping, not because I don't think the NHS are amazing but because I can't bear to be pressured into it. My neighbours are now being really funny with us having got on really well for donkeys years and i can only assume because we aren't out there banging a bloody saucepan.

Viviennemary · 13/04/2020 18:30

Stay at home. Coronavirus. Covid 19.

lazylinguist · 13/04/2020 18:32

We are not clapping, not because I don't think the NHS are amazing but because I can't bear to be pressured into it.

Exactly. In any case, many NHS workers have said they don't like it and have pointed out that the best way to support the NHS is to not vote Tory. I find all this curtain-twitching judginess and virtue signalling about the clapping absolutely abhorrent.

Hoping4alotterywin · 13/04/2020 18:34

Shall we use video for the call?

Shall I set up a Zoom meeting?

#Familyquiznight

Soconfusedandlost · 13/04/2020 18:34

Self isolating cos it sounds like a euphemism for masturbation every time I hear it

OhClover · 13/04/2020 18:35

The right decision at the right time

Egghead68 · 13/04/2020 18:36

“Stay home” is fine, like “go home”. No preposition needed.

FullOfCake · 13/04/2020 18:36

Unprecedented.
'when can we expect the lockdown to be lifted'
'when will schools open'
Online grocery shopping
2m

BikeRunSki · 13/04/2020 18:57

I work in flood risk management . From November to March we were dealing with “unprecedented floods” by “flattening the curve”. I’d had 2 or 3 months of those terms before the Corona-reporting started! O

bettertimesarecomingnow · 13/04/2020 19:02

Virus

Save lives
Protect the NHS

The80sweregreat · 13/04/2020 19:30

The people who now believe they are experts on all things to do with pandemics are rife!
' only buy essentials '
I'm not a shopper at all but once I can I will go and buy 'non essential ' things!
The news being about things other than ' Coronavirus '
(I think the C word will be uttered for about a year before it might just die out! )
Not seeing people in their kitchens or spare rooms and back in the studio being interviewed will be nice.
' social distancing ' ( although I've not missed seeing certain colleagues last few weeks I must admit!)
' self isolating ' it's a depressing sentence.

The80sweregreat · 13/04/2020 19:32

' I can't get flour anywhere'

CathyorClaire · 13/04/2020 21:20

I'm also nominating the Sky news trailer that plays in every ad break with sombre yet dramatic music. If I never see that again it'll be too soon.

Crikey0000 · 13/04/2020 21:22

Flexing. We're all flexing at work. Flex staff here, flex them there. Flexing , can't just be moved ffs.
