AIBU to be curious about why I haven't seen the tabloids report on MNHQ getting the begging bowl out?

I don't avidly follow tabloids or anything, but given the speed at which they generally lift topics and comments from the talk boards, I'm surprised not to have seen any mention of this so far.

Has it been reported?

Because no one gives a shit maybe?

recrudescence · 13/04/2020 09:28

I wonder if they have a bigger story to cover.

Eggcited · 13/04/2020 09:29

Not mainstream or well known, but this paper seems to be the only one who reported on it.

alltripe · 13/04/2020 09:29

It’s not much of a story is it, compared with other stuff that’s going on in the world?

LagunaBubbles · 13/04/2020 09:30

Perhaps because it's a non story really and there's other things going on?

LizzieSiddal · 13/04/2020 09:31

Does my one know how many people have taken up the offer?

LizzieSiddal · 13/04/2020 09:32

*anyone

Cacaca · 13/04/2020 09:32

Maybe because apart from some members who think this place is the be all and end all and the authority in which to live by - nobody actually cares.

NerrSnerr · 13/04/2020 09:33

How on earth would that be news. No one outside of Mumsnet gives a shit about this. Why would they?

TigerQueenie · 13/04/2020 09:35

Yes but the same can be said of all the other content which is lifted, and continues to be during this crisis.

The wider world doesn't really care about any of the petty stuff posted on here, but there are enough who like the potential salaciousness of the gossip to read and swallow it up. Which then brings traffic to the site.

There have been some fairly scathing comments on the posts about subscriptions so I maintain that it's surprising they haven't been picked up.

Pshaw! As if any story could be bigger right now than a chat site trying out a subscription model! Shock

foamrolling · 13/04/2020 09:36

It's really not newsworthy. The stories they lift are completely different to the 'news' that mumsnet might start charging for some stuff.

SO many MNer think this place is the only website on the internet! See when CV started up, they felt it was a good given duty to barge onto every topic possible to push their opinions on it at everyone, as if factual/news/gov sites didn't exist!

ShadowLightning · 13/04/2020 21:16

I was about to say I’d seen in my local news outlet but can see above it’s been posted.

But then, that’s about as poor as journalism comes tbh.

Redcrayons · 13/04/2020 21:17

They only lift stories when they’ve got nothing else to talk about and they need the clicks.

TheCanterburyWhales · 13/04/2020 21:19

10 years ago, when we had the likes of David Cameron and Gordon Brown coming to woo us during the "Mumsnet Election", the story might have made the Mail.

MN considered a voice to be listened to is a boat which has well and truly sailed.

Well the DM lifted the Moldies story and the media generally seem to be looking for a bit more diversion now even in a limited way so no, I don't think YABU at all, OP.

MT2017 · 13/04/2020 21:46

It might be seen as slightly hypocritical to criticise MN when most of the local press is charging for their stories to be read Hmm.

TigerQueenie · 14/04/2020 14:53

I wouldn't subscribe to local news if they charged me to read their content as its mostly garbage.

I'll pay for a couple of actual newspaper sites, as they provide huge amounts of good quality content.

But it's almost as though mumsnet ordinarily encourage it here. Probably for the increase in site visitors, suppose it makes for more attractive prospects for potential advertisers and nets higher rates.

But subscriptions are salacious gossip are they? A story about someone's MIL demanding they me their baby something she chose or a bridezilla or a cheating husband caught by WhatsApp or whatever has been listed from here by the DM etc is a story that 1000s of people who don't read MN can relate to. The fact that a website they aren't interested in enough to read directly has asked people to consider subscribing isn't the least bit interesting to anyone who doesn't already read it.

I'm bemused by a number of people suggesting it's suspicious the DM havent picked it up. It's a total non-story. I know little about Twitter. I don't have an account. Sometimes people share stories from Twitter in other places and sometimes they are interesting. If Twitter were to start voluntary subscriptions that wouldn't be of interest to me iin any way.

DappledThings · 14/04/2020 15:18

So. Many. Typos. This phone is shite.

Which is exactly what the DM takes most days from MN

Yes, but they are relatable non-stories. Like gossip about your mate's mate which can be quite fun. Your mate's mate being asked to consider paying for something you aren't interested in is really not the same thing.
