To think that 10 easter eggs per child from MIL is atrocious

garlicbread82 · 12/04/2020 09:27

MIL has just dropped off 10 easter eggs each to my 3 DCs (we maintained social distancing, she left them at the end of the path).

Now dont get me wrong, I am greatful, but 10 each? Really? I think this is not only overzealous, it also undermines me. I have told her in previous years that one egg each is more than enough, and maybe a small gift, however she continues to undermine me in front of my DCs.

I have allowed my DCs to choose one egg each from the pile to go with the eggs they have already received, and the rest will be dropped off at the local food bank next week. DH thinks I am being unreasonable, and has gone upstairs in a huff Hmm Happy Easter hey?

Or go vegan ! We are vegan my kids get one egg each off us and family members (still quite a few 6 each in the end) they are too expensive for them to buy too many 👍😂😂 x

Roominmyhouse · 13/04/2020 17:51

@notchickenagain exactly what I thought. How did she manage to transport 30 eggs single hand-idly...

Laylor · 13/04/2020 18:17

Oh my, wish she was my mother in law. Smile although my baby is 7 weeks old and he got a packet of mini eggs.

OlaEliza · 13/04/2020 19:25

It's like those horrible pictures at Christmas with hundreds of presents under the tree. A relentless and depressing competition of mass consumption for no reason and makes the gift giving meaningless.

What's worst about that is it's all mostly crap tat from the pound shop just there to make up the number of presents, not even things the kids want.

My eyes want to fall out when I read 'I've only got each child 30 presents, is that enough?'

Why isn't there an idiot face emoji??

Incontinencesucks · 13/04/2020 23:16

We always end up with loads for the DC from people. The kids choose a couple each to go in the back, some for the fridge and we have a smash with the rest. They smash them with glee and the bits are frozen for dh and i.. yum!

Krisskrosskiss · 13/04/2020 23:18

Ten big eggs is crazy from one person... considering other family members want to buy the children an egg too... I'd view it as quite aggressive and selfish. You do right to let them pick one then give the rest away. I'd really not be happy with that at all.

Zippyx · 14/04/2020 00:22

Put them in the cupboard and share them amongst yourselves over the course of... before they expire.

Wheresthebiffer2 · 14/04/2020 00:25

Ten each is ridiculous. And presumably you also bought some for them, and possibly other family members did, or neighbours? Is she crazy?

I totally agree with you giving the unneeded ones to the Foodbank.

justilou1 · 14/04/2020 00:48

TEN EGGS EACH IS FUCKING RIDICULOUS!!! There! I said it!!! And the reason DH is being huffy is because he doesn’t want to grow the balls to tell his mummy she’s being an arsehole. Everyone knows how fucked up the modern junky diet is, how dangerous the amount of sugar our kids are getting and the increase in obesity and type two diabetes in juvenile and youth in the UK is rising exponentially. It already accounts for 85% of the NHS budget (COVID notwithstanding). 85 fucking percent!!! For DIABETES ALONE!!! Sorry, but ten eggs each is beyond disgusting. You should video the kids donating them and send to MIL.

TimeAintNothing · 14/04/2020 01:10

Calm the fuck down and check your facts first.

Diabetes accounts for approximately 10% of the overall NHS budget, not 85%. That 10% covers both Type1 and Type2.

justilou1 · 14/04/2020 01:43

Right.... so I was misinformed? 10% is still far too much. And it’s only going to increase.

HarrySnotter · 14/04/2020 07:39

Um ... so did most others posting on this thread. It's hardly an 'out there' opinion.

HarrySnotter · 14/04/2020 07:42

@justilou1 you say you were 'misinformed'. By whom? Where exactly did you get this completely inaccurate information from?

ContessaferJones · 14/04/2020 07:46

Since your DH has a tendency to binge eat himself, I wonder if he was partly annoyed because he was hoping to skim a few off the top from the toddler pile.... Sort of thing my DH would do when feeling especially entitled.

SearchingForFun · 14/04/2020 08:22

To everyone who thinks 10 eggs for 1 child is perfectly fine.... please go get a large bowl and fill it up with the amount of sugar in those 10 eggs. Then come back and tell me you would be happy to let your child eat that bowl of sugar.

Most people can't visualise how much sugar is in the chocolate. Weigh it out and then there is no doubt.

Whether the DC eat it all in one go, over a week, over a month etc it is still too much sugar.

Laylor · 14/04/2020 08:42

I'm going to go the opposite (waiting to be slated)

Does it really matter if they are eaten in moderation? My mum used to make me and my sister share half an egg over a couple if days. We were eating them for months and if they went out of date they went in the bin. If you were to melt down an easter egg I bet you wouldnt get much more chocolate than a Freddo.

As for stockpiling. My local asda has been selling easter eggs since Christmas so who's to say she didnt buy as and when she went?

Yes its a problem if the children eat one a day but that's down to the parents not the mother in law.

Laylor · 14/04/2020 08:45

And if they weren't eating half an easter egg every couple of days I'm sure they will be eating something else. Sweets etc.

We got a treat every couple of days. The rest of our meals were in line with guidelines and we turned out just fine.

TimeAintNothing · 14/04/2020 09:12

Right.... so I was misinformed?

No, you pulled a random figure out of your backside to suit your OMG!!!!!!!!! narrative.

Yes its a problem if the children eat one a day but that's down to the parents not the mother in law.

Exactly. Just because they have ten eggs doesn't mean they'll eat ten eggs in one go.

TealWater · 14/04/2020 10:23

@garlicbread82 Post a pic of all these eggs so we can see what you mean by 'large' eggs.

Lozz22 · 14/04/2020 10:34

Do you get rid of all their Christmas chocolates too?!!

HarrySnotter · 14/04/2020 19:13

@garlicbread82 Still no photo of all these eggs??

garlicbread82 · 14/04/2020 19:20

@Herpesfreesince03 Which news source did you see this on?
