To think that 10 easter eggs per child from MIL is atrocious

garlicbread82 · 12/04/2020 09:27

MIL has just dropped off 10 easter eggs each to my 3 DCs (we maintained social distancing, she left them at the end of the path).

Now dont get me wrong, I am greatful, but 10 each? Really? I think this is not only overzealous, it also undermines me. I have told her in previous years that one egg each is more than enough, and maybe a small gift, however she continues to undermine me in front of my DCs.

I have allowed my DCs to choose one egg each from the pile to go with the eggs they have already received, and the rest will be dropped off at the local food bank next week. DH thinks I am being unreasonable, and has gone upstairs in a huff Hmm Happy Easter hey?

I'm astonished at how many posters on here think that 10 full sized eggs each are perfectly harmless. If they ate no other sugar AT ALL it would still be three months worth at the recommended daily consumption level. No wonder we are among the fattest nations in the world.

alloutoffucks · 12/04/2020 18:00

Don't worry. My kids have 1 egg and it is doled out to them in small bits over the year. I on the other hand confiscate and eat every bit of chocolate given to them.

ThanosSavedMe · 12/04/2020 18:03

10 eggs is utterly ridiculous. My dc have one each, they don’t need any more. It’s not about being the fun police, it’s about them having a healthy relationship with food

Iloveknockknockjokes · 12/04/2020 18:06

I feel sick at the thought of ten eggs

Patchworksack · 12/04/2020 18:10

The whole thing has gone mad. My FB feed is full of photos of kids with enormous piles of Easter presents. Mine got an egg each from us. They'd normally also get something small from grandparents but they are all isolating due to coronavirus so no opportunity to shop for Easter gifts and in normal times they'd have done an egg hunt after church, so they are a bit short changed this year. Ten large eggs from one person is grotesque. Perhaps she is over compensating for not being able to see them?

SteeperThanHell · 12/04/2020 18:11

You don't have to eat them all at once @Iloveknockknockjokes

OlaEliza · 12/04/2020 18:46

Do you really think that the type of person that would eat that quantity of food is then satiated by less food the following day? It's unlikely for most. Not to mention the lack of nutrition

Yeah, but if they had a jacket potato for lunch they wouldn't need to eat for at least a week after.

TimeAintNothing · 12/04/2020 18:48

Yeah, but if they had a jacket potato for lunch they wouldn't need to eat for at least a week after.

And if they had grapes for dessert they won't need any sugar for the rest of the month. Grapes are nothing but tiny little diabetes bombs.

Emeeno1 · 12/04/2020 18:55

Having your own children, you do realise that you will be the MIL one day? It's not an easy role and requires understanding and sometimes forgiveness from both sides to work.

Your husband loves his mum, just as I expect you love your mum, for wrong or for right.

What you are doing isn't working, maybe it is a good time for a truce.

TheLowry · 12/04/2020 19:04

Your DC world have been just as happy with one egg. Increasing the quantity of chocolate isn't going to make them any happier.

I agree this is about your MIL letting you know she is not going to listen to any of your requests, however reasonable they are.
The real question is whether this is worth fighting about with her and your husband. Only you know the answer to that.

@Watertorture 😂😂

IdentifyasTired · 12/04/2020 20:55

Yes it's shocking. Yes it's too much but my God I would have been secretly DELIGHTED by that much chocolate.
Months of chocolate stash sorted in one go!

leeloo1 · 12/04/2020 21:46

"Smash the eggs, put the chocolate in the freezer and melt it to make ricecrispies cakes during the rest of the year."

Has anyone tried to do this? We melted some leftover Easter egg chocolate last year... Well, I say melted, it didn't really melt, just went into a gross, grainy lump and had to be thrown away!

Are you a person who would eat 10 easter eggs? Really what is wrong with you that you consider that normal?

Anoisagusaris · 13/04/2020 00:02

10 Easter eggs over a long period of time....why not?

There is actually not much chocolate in a small Easter egg . Less than a standard bar of chocolate.

And yep I melted down some Easter egg chocolate this week and it was fine

No one has suggested eating all ten in one go.

YANBU. They're not your eggs to give away!

ALovelyBitOfSquirrel · 13/04/2020 00:59

That was meant to be YABU! Oops.

P999 · 13/04/2020 01:55

Sorry, i havent read the whole thread so sorry if ive missed something. Youve told her not to buy such an obsene amount. She has deliberately ignored you to try and paint you the mean baddy. Are there other examples of this type of undermining behaviour? My instincts are she is trying to shit stir in a passive aggressive way. Madness to buy 30 masdive eggs. Youre setting a good example to your kids by dropping them off at food bank Flowers

chardonm · 13/04/2020 02:11

Yanbu this is grotesque indeed. This why there is so much childhood obesity!

@Candodad that really made me laugh.

SecondaryBurnzzz · 13/04/2020 02:28

One egg a week for 10 weeks? We eke ours out and if we get sick of them use them in cooking. 10 is a bit OTT though - is she trying to make sure that her GC's don't forget her?
