Is it ok to give an almost 3yr old Mini eggs??? Or are they a massive choking hazard?

Choking hazard, break them up

oohnicevase · 11/04/2020 18:55

I wouldn't unless you smash them up first , I don't give them to my 8 year old as they are so hard and can sort of fore away from your teeth unless you bite hard enough .

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/04/2020 18:55

MASSIVE choking hazard. Better eat them all yourself.

HelloDulling · 11/04/2020 18:55

Please don’t. My friend’s 3yr old nearly choked on one last year, it was terrifying.

Lazydaisydaydream · 11/04/2020 18:56

I think it says on the packet they are a choking hazard and not to give to children 4 and under? Even then I'd probably smash them up first. I have witnessed first hand an adult choking on a mini egg and having to be given the Heimlich maneuver so I definitely wouldn't risk it with a three year old!

WestWasnt · 11/04/2020 18:57

I would think foil wrapped ones without the hard shell would be a lot safer.

MrsP2015 · 11/04/2020 18:58

I wouldn't give them.

Give something else instead- if there's no chocolate alternative then don't bother.

Pollony · 11/04/2020 18:59

I have given them my just 3 year old but I smashed them up first.

Boredinthehouse · 11/04/2020 18:59

No please no Sad

FlaskMaster · 11/04/2020 19:01

There was a warning about this the other day. They're choking sized, like grapes, so you need to cut them lengthways if you do give them.

louise5754 · 11/04/2020 19:02

I don't like my 8 and 10 year old to eat these. If for any reason they have them I tell them to hold it and bite it in half.

With grapes though I never thought about the danger until they were older.

FlaskMaster · 11/04/2020 19:03

Lengthways because obviously if you cut them in half round the short and fat way, they're still exactly choking size in diameter.

louise5754 · 11/04/2020 19:03

@FlaskMaster cross posted re the grapes

TimeAintNothing · 11/04/2020 19:05

Put them inside a folded over tea towel, give it a whack with the rolling pin and then tip the pieces into a dish.

GrumpyHoonMain · 11/04/2020 19:06

Just give him a normal egg - much less of a choking hazard

AmelieTaylor · 11/04/2020 19:07

Well, yes you 'can' but you shouldn't. Definite choking hazard (as are marshmallows in case you didn't know)

TheoneandObi · 11/04/2020 19:11

Don't risk it. Eat them yourself and save your child 😬

BreatheAndFocus · 11/04/2020 19:14

A big choking hazard. I break them up even for children older than 4. Actually, thinking about it, I don’t even put them in my own mouth whole. I bite them and eat them in a couple of goes.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 11/04/2020 19:15

I won't let my 8 year old have them, I'm so terrified of them!

Taddda · 11/04/2020 19:16

No I wouldn't give them to my Dds either- Dd1's getting milky buttons!

Fedupandpoor · 11/04/2020 19:17

My dc got mini eggs Easter eggs this year and I bit each mini egg in half lengthways and gave them half. For safety reasons of course, not because I'm a greedy cow.

Toomuchtooyoung01 · 11/04/2020 19:18

Thanks, as I thought. Asked OH to get some extra Easter treats for DD when he went shopping and he brought mini eggs despite me having always said previously she's not to have them as they're dangerous. He said shes "not a baby any more and to stop being neurotic"
I'll eat them myself to be on the safe side. Thanks for the replies!

I wouldn’t give them to my 5 year old!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 11/04/2020 19:19

When you say Mini Egg dyou mean the crunchy shell ones or the Mini Creme Eggs .
If it's the Creme Eggs YABU 'cos they are rank . They are always hard and crystalised in the middle , in a bag of 10 there are 2 nice ones ( though in Heroes the Cream Egg Splat sweet is always soft fondant)

If it's the crisp shell then they need Cutted Up Wink

LochJessMonster · 11/04/2020 19:22

Smashed up mini eggs sounds nice though! Might try it!
