I've started giving to both shelter and guardian as I feel so lucky to still have a good income and they both do such good work. I feel like I should be giving more though

Honestly? None bar our usual little monthly donation. We just can't afford it with money so very tight.

@nahowe
Is it better to give cash to a foodbank or donate at the supermarket?

If you're a UK Taxpayer, and the foodbank you support is a charity, they'll be able to reclaim gift aid on a cash donation (an additional 25%) and purchase the types of food they most need.

Smaller local organisations may not be registered as charities - or receive sufficient monetary donations to make the gift aid claim worthwhile.
When I went to set up a standing order to a local charity, I asked the FD first. They didn't really get enough monetary donations to justify the time claiming gift aid, so I set up a monthly donation via Just Giving.

I’m giving the money I’d normally spend on coffees to my local food bank.

I donate online to my local food bank and animal shelters.

nahowe check what your local Food Bank would prefer, at the moment we are getting lots of financial donations but not always easy to spend the money if supermarkets have “limits” on some items so if people going shopping actually put items in the collecting bin that is a great help.
But all FBs are different, so try and find a contact for your local one.
(And yes, we are asking our local supermarket for special shopping arrangements).

Signed up to the big issue for 3months and made a donation to a children’s hospital. I will choose another charity come Mays pay check if this continues
