I've started giving to both shelter and guardian as I feel so lucky to still have a good income and they both do such good work. I feel like I should be giving more though

@PristineCondition that's great news. I hadn't picked up on that. Every little glimmer of hope for the future is gratefully received.

HelloDulling · 11/04/2020 21:42

Welsh Women’s Aid, and my local arts centre.

Winter2020 · 11/04/2020 22:16

My local Covid 19 "Mutual Aid" group. The orgainisers are co-ordinating volunteers looking after the vulnerable as well as doing loads themselves. As well as people asking for shopping to be done or prescriptions collected they are being asked for help from people in need without the money to pay. I like the idea that my donation will help people in need right here in my town.

daisychain01 · 12/04/2020 04:43

God this place is full of shitty people, I just wanted to know about charities that need help now on a random forum. im not posting an update on facebook

Well said. There is a culture on here nowadays that it's mandatory to post sarcastic, negative comments on any thread that tries to be positive. Like the bitter friend who sucks the life out of every conversation and leaves negativity,

It's a good thought OP, Sunak has announced a rescue package for charities as they have take a massive hit due to COVID19. Events like the London Marathon being postponed, means they've lost all those £millions in sponsorships from runner Sad

I was doing fundraising for the local foodbank but now we're in lockdown I need to get in touch again to find out what I can help with even if it's driving some foodstuffs over to their depot.

I also volunteer for the main Armed forces charity, and I can continue to do that online, submit cases via our web based system, and do phone interviews with clients There will be a lot of hardship due to people's work drying up, so our charity can be an important funding bridge until work can resume.

Sorry for typos! Shame no edit button Grin

Food banks appreciate cash donations as they can buy what they're short of or buy in bulk. If you'd prefer to donate goods, ours often runs short of;

Tea, coffee, sugar, cooking oil, pasta, tinned fish, tinned meat, detergent, toilet paper and nappies in the bigger sizes.

Dumbie · 12/04/2020 06:57

Our local food banks aren't accepting actual food atm and giving out vouchers. So I'm donating cash.

Animal charities, food and litter sent directly.

Air ambulance.

Our wages are currently safe, so I'm paying it forward.

The big charities have some serious problems. Whilst they hold reserves, usually to the tune of 3 months + operating costs, If they rely heavily on fundraising events, their income has reduced considerably.

TravellingSpoon · 12/04/2020 07:02

A local Guinea pig rescue
Trussel Trust

Ragwort · 12/04/2020 07:08

Our Food Bank is being incredibly well supported at the moment with both donations from the local supermarkets and lots of financial support so it is actually worth checking before giving your donation.

Ethelfleda · 12/04/2020 07:09

Great thread, OP.
I’ve been putting aside what we would have spent on fuel and other luxuries like eating out in order to donate at the end (assuming both of our jobs are safe) I was thinking women’s aid and our local food bank.

Loooobyloo · 12/04/2020 07:16

I've given to the big issue, the NHS one and a few local hospices, also to cancer research as my cousin who has cancer is doing a fundraiser for them. I'm not a fan of big charities normally.

I'll continue to give what I can as they're all really struggling at the moment.

Scarlettpixie · 12/04/2020 07:16

Trussell Trust and the local food bank.

Oilyoilyoilgob · 12/04/2020 07:17

@Talulahoopla not sure if this helps, but eBay has lots of sellers still selling gloves etc if the Alzheimer’s charity you support needs ppe equipment. I managed to get some plastic aprons and there’s face masks and visors on there too (we needed them for business reasons)
Just in case you wanted to buy products for them 😊

Oilyoilyoilgob · 12/04/2020 07:20

Animal sanctuaries-money and food orders done as they can’t hold their usual raffles/fundraisers

Food banks and also adding to the food bank cages in our local Morrison’s-bought sanitary protection that’s on offer and loaded up on that. Hate to think of women having nothing on their period 🙁

RickOShay · 12/04/2020 07:27

@midgebabe
Well said. I’ve donated to the guy making PPE for NHS workers thanks to this thread.
Patting myself very vigorously on my back now Grin

daisychain01 · 12/04/2020 07:36

Massive slap on the back to anyone helping others in any way at all. Fab!!!

missmouse101 · 12/04/2020 07:51

Hope Dog Rescue, South Wales.

Ragwort · 12/04/2020 08:01

I like the idea of putting some of the money I have ‘saved’ by not going to work on one side to give to charity. It won’t be a huge amount as I’ve been furloughed so my salary is reduced by 80% but even the cost of the odd takeaway coffee will soon add up.

MerryDeath · 12/04/2020 08:02

Refuge and Women's Aid. i had been meaning to set up direct debits for ages but this has brought it to the forefront of my mind.

Genie7910 · 12/04/2020 19:47

My income hasn't been affected, so I'm giving my socialising money to charity. So far I've given some to the food bank and last week donated to a nearby city farm that my children love. Without visitors, they need money to feed the animals.

Hoggleludo · 13/04/2020 14:24

@RippleEffects !

Yes! Big issue was an amazing idea. They have to buy their own magazines and get to kee the profits. However it means that those you see selling. Aren't just begging. They are actually selling a product which they've had to invest in. They also have to buy the tabard etc.

My kids’ sports club. It’s a community club that has always run on a shoestring and will not be there if it can’t pay its bills now it no longer has any income.

lockitdown · 13/04/2020 14:43
