Friend who boasts

Howfar12 · 11/04/2020 16:58

So, I know someone, not really a friend but you know what I mean, who constantly posts pictures of the inside of their car, jewellery etc. For the clap they had to say that “my estate” all took part. Someone asked her what most expensive jewellery is and she posted the answer on her story. AIBU to feel that there’s no real need for this. AIBU to confront her. What should I say?

PixiKitKat · 11/04/2020 17:44

Just unfollow her. She isn't doing anything wrong.
Also I live on an estate, more Shameless than Downton Abbey here.

Rosehip10 · 11/04/2020 17:44

"My estate" Grin does she mean Blenheim or just some houses in a few closes.

Healthyandhappy · 11/04/2020 17:44

Tbh I can come across like this. I dont intent it I.e describing where I love. Big private estate surrounded by wildlife and a big lake with donkeys just over road. However ain't bragging clearly statin what it's like up here but for someone with no green space in a council area it may sound like I'm bragging x

Brabble · 11/04/2020 17:44

Also a Swarovski necklace is not really that expensive, if she’d said a Rolex watch or a £100,000 diamond ring fair enough showing off, not this 😂😂😂😂

sestras · 11/04/2020 17:45

I don't understand why this bothers you.

Ginfilledcats · 11/04/2020 17:45

Swarovski isn't something I'd necessarily be bragging about. Lovely jewellery yes, but pretty accessible price wise (obviously not for every day costume jewellery) but hardly a diamond encrusted Cartier choker is it

Caaarrrl · 11/04/2020 17:45

I don't think that owning a swarovski necklace is really a boast, is it? They're not that expensive? And I live in a cul de sac on an estate (ex council houses!)

sunshineandshowers21 · 11/04/2020 17:45

is this a joke? an estate and swarovski jewellery? neither are particularly brag worthy tbh. (not to be bitchy, i also live on a council estate - in a cul de sac 😂)

SharonasCorona · 11/04/2020 17:46

OP, why do you think you have a right to ‘confront’ her?

How is what she is doing hurting you? You confront a burglar, an abuser, a bigot, you don’t confront someone going happily about their life not hurting you!

Rosehip10 · 11/04/2020 17:46

People saying an "estate"is always a council term Confused it's used for any collection of houses surely?

Howfar12 · 11/04/2020 17:47

Okay, I was overreacting. My bad

OP posts:
SharonasCorona · 11/04/2020 17:47

Those tend to be called ‘private housing estates’ @Rosehip10 . ‘I live on an estate’ has a less salubrious connotation sadly.

SharonasCorona · 11/04/2020 17:48

Fair dos for acknowledge you are being unreasonable OP Brew

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 11/04/2020 17:49

So she lives on an estate(council more likely than private) and her most expensive piece of jewellery is Swarovski and a gift.

She's not exactly the Queen lording it in the peasants is it?

Hoppinggreen · 11/04/2020 17:50

We don’t say “estate” we say “development”
Estate sounds very Council house

PegasusReturns · 11/04/2020 17:51

Even “private development” is hardly aspirational, definitely nothing to feel envious of OP Smile

It usually means a series of commuter new builds.

LynetteScavo · 11/04/2020 17:53

Swarovski necklace that her brother bought for her”

Ha ha ha, I thought she was landed gentry with an estate inc peasants and her most expensive price of jewellery was the koh-I-nor (or maybe something smaller).

I used to live on an estate, in the nice side of town, mostly large 4,5, 6 bedroom houses with a bit of social housing thrown in. Certain people such as my siblings were very snobby about me living on an estate. It was surrounded by fields so if I was giving directions I had to say it was an estate. One of the mums in my NCT group was titled and lived in a ramshackleStately home. I had to explain to her I lived on a housing estate and what that was (ie, a lot of new build houses) when she was coming round for coffee and I had to give her directions.

I'm not one to boast about living in an estate.

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/04/2020 17:56

I say "my estate". As in: "The drug dealers on my estate have better supply and delivery chain Tesco".

I love you!

There are many kinds of estate: new build, council and country. None of which I've lived in, oddly.

Oakmaiden · 11/04/2020 17:56

I think this is a wind up...

shinyredbus · 11/04/2020 17:57

Jealousy is an ugly thing.

funnylittlefloozie · 11/04/2020 17:58

Someone asked her what most expensive jewellery is and she posted the answer on her story.

Was it a clown necklace from Elizabeth Duke?

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/04/2020 17:59

If your estate don't have a ha ha, it isn't anything to write home about. Innit?

tara66 · 11/04/2020 17:59

So funny. OP you should get out more!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 11/04/2020 18:00

Enough with the stealth boasting already Hmm Grin
