Friend who boasts

So, I know someone, not really a friend but you know what I mean, who constantly posts pictures of the inside of their car, jewellery etc. For the clap they had to say that “my estate” all took part. Someone asked her what most expensive jewellery is and she posted the answer on her story. AIBU to feel that there’s no real need for this. AIBU to confront her. What should I say?

I should have said “culdesac then

How strange because our estate and those around us in a very affluent county doesn't mean council. Yes there are council estates in the city but not in the outer lying areas.

stuntbanana · 11/04/2020 17:20

Living on an estate is not something to boast about , unless it's a large country estate with many properties that are owned by your friend , my guess it's the local new build of tacky boxes

tttigress · 11/04/2020 17:22

I did have a situation once, where someone said "one the estate", in the context, I assumed they were referring to some sort of Barratt homes development. However they were actually refering to a country estate they live on (in a cottage)

Janaih · 11/04/2020 17:23

I know what you mean OP. My ex sil lived on a new build estate and thought she was proper classy.
Just unfollow though, you're only winding youself up. Flowers

Thedogscollar · 11/04/2020 17:24

Do yourself a favour remove FB from your life.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 11/04/2020 17:25

I say "my estate". As in: "The drug dealers on my estate have better supply and delivery chain Tesco". Didn't realise it's so boastful😱 I shall refrain from saying my estate. What is a non boastful phrase?

Mlou32 · 11/04/2020 17:26

She sounds pretty dissatisfied with her lot in life; why else would she be texting to convince every man and his dog that her life is so amazing? Social media is full of sad folk like this.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 11/04/2020 17:27

On a serious note. O don't understand this obsession about moaning about people on social media. Just be adults and unfollow who you don't like, people!

EngagedAgain · 11/04/2020 17:27

Whether you're overreacting or not, anyone that winds you up that much is best avoided. We're all entitled to our opinions, not everyone has to like them.

PegasusReturns · 11/04/2020 17:31

Unless she’s talking about this sort of estate she doesn’t have much to boast about. Don’t worry about it Smile

No one cares that she lives in an estate - it’s just another way for her to show how minted she is. I live on an estate. There are definitely no minted people around here, I can tell you!

You just have to let it go. It’s what makes her feel happy and secure about herself. It could be masking something or she might just be a massive show off. It doesn’t really matter. Confronting her would be bonkers. Learn to laugh at it. Or unfollow her.

morecoffeerequired · 11/04/2020 17:32

Boasting on social media about how much expensive jewellery you've got is a sure-fire way of getting yourself mugged or burgled.

She's a twit.

Sn0tnose · 11/04/2020 17:33

I should have said “culdesac then

Ooh, I live in the cul de sac bit of my estate. I must be doing well Grin

Pinkblueberry · 11/04/2020 17:35

I don’t think OP knows what ‘estate’ actually means.

zigaziga · 11/04/2020 17:35

Assuming you mean those new-ish build cul-de-sac estates..? If so, I don’t think that’s boasting it’s just what they’re called (and they’re pretty average places to live right?)

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 11/04/2020 17:37

I should have said “culdesac then not if that wasn't the phrase she used Confused You were annoyed specifically because she said 'estate', but as people have pointed out, whether it's a stealth boast depends massively on where she lives.

Bubblewings · 11/04/2020 17:37

She’s showing photos of the inside of her car and jewellery - is she trying to get robbed? I wonder what motivated someone to ask what her most expensive piece of jewellery was, they’ll be asking how much she’s got in the bank next and by the sounds of it she’ll gladly take a photo of her bank statement!

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 11/04/2020 17:39

Does she mean gated estate? That does mean posh unlike our estate which is ex council and all behaving very well in the circumstances of little houses and not much space!!!!

SharonasCorona · 11/04/2020 17:40

My mum’s cul-de-sac is a fly tip hotspot 😂 Fitting as cul means arse in French.

I’d be more impressed if your frenemy said she lived on a gated colony!

VettiyaIruken · 11/04/2020 17:40

Estate is posh? I grew up on a council estate. Nothing posh about me!
When you say confront her, what do you mean? What sentences do you see yourself using. I'm really curious.

Cheeryandmerry · 11/04/2020 17:41

“My estate”would definitely not be considered a boast round these parts Grin.

Howfar12 · 11/04/2020 17:41

She said her most expensive piece of jewellery is a “Swarovski necklace that her brother bought for her”. I don’t know why she felt the need to post this

OP posts:
Brabble · 11/04/2020 17:43

Jealous of someone living in a cul de sac, you are very sad 😂🤦🏽‍♀️

Cheeryandmerry · 11/04/2020 17:43

Oh dear.
