AIBU?

For wanting to go for an early morning run

So since christmas I have been on a diet and exercise regime, driven by the fact I am bridesmaid for a friend at the end of the year. So far I have lost 2 stone (slow progress!) And then lockdown happened. I have been quite good, tracked my food and dd and I have been out for a walk every day. I've lost 5lbs whilst in lockdown.

I really got into running at the gym before lockdown, which obviously now isn't an option. Dh works shifts so I have to work anything round his shifts.

He is still working and is working all weekend so I said I want to get up before he goes to work and go for a run. He has to leave the house at 730, so I will get up at 630, go for a 30 - 40 min run and be back before he leaves for work.

Dh thinks this is a stupid idea and has voiced his opinion about this all afternoon. I'm now losing all motivation about keeping going as I'm getting no support.

Is this a really stupid idea?

Also to add, despite feeling good about my weight loss, I asked Dh the other day if it could notice, and his response was of course not, you haven't lost enough yet!

Hope you've been up and out for your run OP. Not a daft idea at all. I'm quite jealous, I just can't get myself up to do an early morning run. I'd love to get it out of the way, especially with a lot less people around.

2 stone is amazing and would definitely be noticeable, well done. I didn't even lose that much before my own wedding.

My initial thought was that he did notice and would like to discourage it for whatever reason (maybe due to childcare or not wanting you to look too good to other men).

Hope you enjoyed that run...

Are you ready to cope with further discouragement from your DH? I do hope that he gets over his fear and doesn't end up being more excess weight you have to lose.

One thing I discovered about my DH is that any change always unsettled him. Once he sees the new thing happening and no disaster actually strikes then he settles down wonderfully.

Before you dismiss him as jealous or unsupportive, he might just be anxious. Not an excuse, just a clue.

Meanwhile enjoy your run xx

This thread encouraged me to have a run rather than a lie-in.

Hope you made it out OP...but if you didn’t just come back and chat anyway

No judging here, just positive listening and encouragement in running and life.

Evening everyone, sorry for the late reply, had a day away from my phone and all day in the garden

I made it out for a run this morning, managed about 2km so not the best but not the worst. But felt so good for getting up and going.

Dh was fine this morning, didn't really say much as I got up (he was already awake) and I was home in plenty of time before he had to leave.

Well done OP. 2k is a decent distance and the first one is always the hardest I think.

Great news, I bet you're Grin, getting out the front door is the hardest thing to do, then it all falls in to place.
