For wanting to go for an early morning run

So since christmas I have been on a diet and exercise regime, driven by the fact I am bridesmaid for a friend at the end of the year. So far I have lost 2 stone (slow progress!) And then lockdown happened. I have been quite good, tracked my food and dd and I have been out for a walk every day. I've lost 5lbs whilst in lockdown.

I really got into running at the gym before lockdown, which obviously now isn't an option. Dh works shifts so I have to work anything round his shifts.

He is still working and is working all weekend so I said I want to get up before he goes to work and go for a run. He has to leave the house at 730, so I will get up at 630, go for a 30 - 40 min run and be back before he leaves for work.

Dh thinks this is a stupid idea and has voiced his opinion about this all afternoon. I'm now losing all motivation about keeping going as I'm getting no support.

Is this a really stupid idea?

Also to add, despite feeling good about my weight loss, I asked Dh the other day if it could notice, and his response was of course not, you haven't lost enough yet!

Its a good time to run. Cooler and not as many people about- just go you don't need his permission or approval, well done with the fitness regime !

If you like running early, do so. Otherwise you could run in the evening.

Go and run! I may get shouted down for this but I would still take your dd for her walk later in the day so she gets her exercise too! I know it's once a day but your dd can't go out and exercise on her own x

I'm up for my early morning run now, it's the best time of day! It's so cool and peaceful, and afterwards you'll feel set up for the rest of the day.

It's the best time of day to run, particularly as we move further into spring. Getting light, loads of birdsong, nice temperature - heaven.

Why is it stupid? I run at 6 am most days. I have done this since I was 15 years old and am 40 now. It's my thing. Every partner I have ever had has just had to accept it, and they have. Some of them have even been converted to joining me! It's not stupid at all.

Yes of course. I always run at 6am so I'm home before work / school-run (pre lockdown).
It's the best time of the day to run. And daylight too now.

Is he overweight himself? It’s bizarre that he’s so negative about your weight loss unless it gives from a place of insecurity.

Another supporter of going at that time. Ignore your "D" H, if it works for you and you're observing all safe distancing, it's wonderful to run as the sun is coming up/start of the day.

I've found that if I run around 6am, I see noone but if I try in the evenings, I always find people

You've done really well with your weight loss and well done for losing during lock down. I'd ignore him and say you're still going out for a run.

People are early risers here (Sydney) so it would be very common to go running any time from 5.30 onwards, go for it. Your husband sounds very unsupportive of your weight loss, he was either just being nasty for the sake of it because you want to do something he doesn't like or he quite likes you not feeling very confident about yourself. Both are big red flags to me tbh. Keep an eye on his controlling tendencies, that's where relationships start getting abusive,

It's got nothing to do with him - go for a run when YOU like.

I'm always up early and like the quiet time of day to sit on Mn, walk round the garden with my first cup of tea, whatever. Why can't you decide for yourself? - that is the problem not DP

I just don’t understand why your husband thinks it’s a stupid idea? Thousands and thousands of people get up early and go for a run every day. Especially those who don’t have time to go later on. It’s such a totally normal thing to do. It would be like your husband saying it was a stupid idea to use a knife and fork to eat your dinner.

Is he usually such an unsupportive bastard? Is he jealous?

I'm a runner and run in the early mornings. It's the best way to do it.

Your husband sounds like a bit of a knob tbh. Is he fat and jealous that you're losing weight and he's not?

I can't understand it otherwise. My DH thinks it's great when I go running first thing as he knows I'll be a calmer and happier person all day if I do.

(Having said which I've woken up tired today and don't plan on leaving the house all day).

How was your run OP? This thread has really inspired me, I'm dying to go for an early morning run/cycle now (9 months pregnant though so maybe I just want to do it because I can't)

Should have mentioned in my post that we have 1 dc (4) who usually wakes up about 8 in the morning so all he has to do is listen out while he gets ready but I am aiming to be back in plenty of time. He is then on a 12 hour shift so it really is the only time I get to do anything.

Yes you should definitely do it then.

2 stones since Christmas isn’t slow progress, it’s sensible, healthy and sustainable weight loss 👏🏻
It sounds like the next weight you need to lose is the 15 stone ignorant, insecure lump you live with ....

I always get up at around 6am to exercise, my boyfriend thinks I’m batty for doing it, but he isn’t a morning person. But he always gets out of bed for a few minutes to make me a shake and write the carbs on it so I can eat as soon as I’ve finished.

Why do you have to ask his permission? Just do it. Get up when you want, put your trainers on and go
