Is it just every week we are in lockdown or is that it forever and we have become a nation of clappers? Do I need to move?

And I like it at 8pm. Without kids going to school everything is happening later in our house.

Clymene · 09/04/2020 22:02

And the NHS staff I know @MoreThan40 , mostly nurses are really heartened by it. Especially when they're sick in bed with suspected CV

Puffthemagicdragongoestobed · 09/04/2020 22:02

We didn’t clap this evening. I was busy cooking dinner, and nobody else in the household actually remembered.. I agree it feels pointless. We have already done our bit for the NHS.. didn’t vote Tory and we have been staying at home to limit our exposure to the virus.
I am forever grateful and in awe of the people on the frontline but I don’t feel I need to engage in a cringey noise making exercise.

BillMasen · 09/04/2020 22:02

So no-one prepared to say “I voted Conservative and I clapped”?

Not one person?

NurseJaques · 09/04/2020 22:05

Myself and most of my colleagues agree its our favourite minute of the whole week Smile

Big support where I live and it lifts my spirits! Some people are just miserys... There's lots going on in my life right now that I'm not keen on! Ranging from minor inconvenience to life threatening risks, if all that was bothering me was a bit of clapping once a week I'd consider myself lucky!

OhLook · 09/04/2020 22:06

@RedGal

I think you need to lay off the Gin

Nursejackie1 · 09/04/2020 22:06

Jesus there are some miserable fuckers in this world

bringincrazyback · 09/04/2020 22:07

I have donated money and PPE equipment so am doing something tangible too but I also choose to clap. What's wrong with that?

Nothing. It's those who are effectively bullying others to join in that need to give their heads a wobble.

MamaBearLockdown · 09/04/2020 22:08

well if we'd let labour go through, there would be no NHS left to speak of as they would have completely slaughter the economy. At least the tories managed to limit the damage. HTH BillMasen

Sertchgi123 · 09/04/2020 22:09

I think it’s lovely to show appreciation. What a miserable load of fuckers you are.

TiddlestheCat · 09/04/2020 22:10

Tbh, I had forgotten all about it again and was just about to climb into my hastily purchased inflatable hot tub when my elderly neighbour popped out of her front door with a set of bongo drums. This set others off drumming on the street. It was like a scene from Carry on up The Jungle. Me stood in front of a large steaming pot of water surrounded by the sound of the cannibal drums!

CovidCanFKcuOFF · 09/04/2020 22:10

You'll never walk alone!

Oh my goodness that would have floored me.

I love it! Takes seconds, I see '' faces '' see my neighbours! I find it very moving and my dc will be remember it.

MoreThan40 · 09/04/2020 22:10

When they’re sick in bed they want people making noise.... yeah right. They’d have loved the 30 minute karaoke tonight when they’re coughing, have a headache, are aching etc.... 🙄

limpbizkit · 09/04/2020 22:11

This would make an excellent script for an episode of 'benidorm' I can just imagine it Grin

MamaBearLockdown · 09/04/2020 22:11

I like the clapping and the singing. It's once a week, it cheers people up. 8pm is a good time too.

CovidCanFKcuOFF · 09/04/2020 22:13

Tiddels, that's hilarious 😂.

And inspired drums!

Cam77 · 09/04/2020 22:13

I thought the clapping and loud cheering from the government the first time they blocked the nurses payrise was appalling enough

IncognitoIsMyFavouriteWord · 09/04/2020 22:13

I haven't done it because the ironic thing is, the people on my street clapping and cheering are the ones that are having friends round, street BBQs etc.

I'm a year-round user of the NHS and I am, and will always be grateful we have it. I'm showing my support by not adding to their bloody workload.

SlipSlidin · 09/04/2020 22:14

@RedGal

Totally, this stupid site (which is both fiscally and securely mismanaged) can go fuck itself.

Cheers 🥂 xx

SlipSlidin · 09/04/2020 22:15

@OhLook no I don’t think she has

CovidCanFKcuOFF · 09/04/2020 22:15

Bill?

I voted Conservative and I clapped.

I was nearly killed in a hospital after a decade of labour strangle hold. They were so run down, midwives in utter crisis.. I'd never risk that hell again. Our hospitals are so much better now where I live..

And she’s made my 16 year old promise her that he’ll never be a Tory

Your children's aunt shouldn't make any young person promise anything of the sort, @MoreThan40

It's up to them how they choose to vote. I dislike the Conservatives and Labour equally, but would defend anyone's right (including that of my own children) to vote for whoever they judge to be worthy of their vote. I would like to think they had put some thought into it - but even if they haven't, it's their vote, not mine. One of them is voting age, btw, and is a Tory. We have interesting discussions.

Walking, how do you know how often your neighbours have been out? Confused

I love it. I'm an nhs manager. The clapping is for my colleagues on the front line. Make as much noise as you can. It will never be enough to say thank you for the stoic bravery that's being offered as routine.
