Posted here for traffic rather than the relationship board.
It was shared by Faiza Shaheen (ran against Sir Duncan-Smith), so I'm assuming it's legit.

I know I should have posted on the Relationship board perhaps, but I just wanted more people to see it. I happened to overhear a conversation in a hospital setting between professionals (Monday this week) that domestic violence is going out of control.

From today, people fleeing domestic abuse anywhere in Britain during the coronavirus lockdown can apply for free train travel to refuge accommodation, through a partnership between train companies and Women’s Aid.

Fantastic! Replying to bump this

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 09/04/2020 19:30

Amazing.

Balmytissues · 09/04/2020 19:39

Thanks for bumping. Don't want to bump my own post as I will look like some glory hunter, but hopefully enough will see this post who can refer to it if they see posters who are in trouble.

Hasn't that always been the case? I know of 3 women who were issued travel warrants in order to flee DV.

Vanannabananna · 09/04/2020 19:41

I work in a refuge. I’ve just emailed all my colleagues to let them know. Thank you.

Balmytissues · 09/04/2020 19:42

It obviously means that you need to get in touch with Women's Aid, and decide to leave, and take that massive leap into the unknown, but I suppose it's something at least.

keep bumping this

n00bMaster69 I think previously it may have been in place but came out of Women's Aid budget. To be honest I'm not 100% sure. I just want people to know I guess that professionals have recognised that DV has increased since lockdown and that they are still trying hard to help.

Can confirm it’s legit - work related knowledge here. Hopefully this message can be promoted as far and wide as possible.

Balmytissues · 09/04/2020 21:02

Thank you Corilee2806 for confirming and bumping. The more people who see it, the better. You don't know who's reading who might just manage to take it in their head and take it in their heels.

This is fantastic!

Some years ago, a colleague had to support a woman with several children who got the courage to leave just before Christmas. She was in Sussex, and the nearest refuge that could take them all was in Middlesborough. Social services couldn't help, she couldn't get hold of anyone at Women's Aid and our chief exec ended up authorising the purchase of rail warrants for them all.

Then we broke several policies by ferrying them to Brighton station in our cars. Grin

I'll make sure that our frontline teams are aware that this is available, so thank you for posting, OP.
