No birthday cards

It's my DD's 4th birthday and I'm feeling down about the severe lack of cards. People, my own family included, have seemingly used the current situation as an excuse not to be able to send one. (My address is known). Is it ok to be upset about this or do I need to shut the hell up and consider the posties who could all be poorly? Feeling unloved.

A friends DS had a 1st birthday the other week and had to make do with a generic card I had in the cupboard rather than a special age 1 card- I’m sure they understand. I wouldn’t dream of not sending one though. Worst case either I, or the children, would make a card to post.

oohnicevase · 09/04/2020 12:17

I've used thortful.com to send cards at the mo. It costs £3.99 but that's ok ..

Umnoway · 09/04/2020 12:19

I just checked Moonpig and it says they are still running just longer delivery times. I ordered a birthday card for my DD on there a couple of weeks ago.

I doubt your 4 year old is remotely bothered btw.

bloodysqueakyeggs · 09/04/2020 12:38

I've just ordered from Moonpig. They say it may take 7 days to deliver but if you're organised (the birthday I'm buying for isn't for another 2 weeks) then it's fine!

Fluffybutter · 09/04/2020 13:33

Moonpig definitely weren’t a couple of days ago or I would’ve used them.
Maybe they were trying to catch up with the backlog

AnneLovesGilbert · 09/04/2020 13:35

TouchNote is also still open. If you download the app you get two free postcards or a free card with envelope. If it’s important and people can be bothered it’s perfectly possible to send cards.

maddy68 · 09/04/2020 13:39

It was my birthday yesterday. I didn't receive any cards. My daughter tried to order one from moonpig but they aren't doing them either. I shop in Aldi. They don't sell cards. Card shops are closed. It increases people's risks massively as they would have to go and buy a stamp. Then make a non essential journey to the post box. And quite frankly he's 4. What 4 year old gives a shit about a card?

MigginsMs · 09/04/2020 14:03

Our ALDI sells cards. Not that that’s any help to anyone whose ALDI doesn’t!

MigginsMs · 09/04/2020 14:03

I ordered a card from Funky Pigeon this morning

Aragog · 09/04/2020 14:07

Moonpig and Funky Pigeon have very restricted options. Moonpig is currently mainly e-cards though they had some standard cards via their app.

They made the switch late last week.

I haven’t RTFT OP but the first few posts I read seem to say YABU. I disagree.

This is unusual times but I managed to send my friend a birthday card whose birthday is later this month. I sent it over a week ago, so super early, but I did so in case Moonpig closed (it hasn’t yet)

I haven’t got Easter eggs for everyone is usually would get them for but I did order something online for my parents and my parents in law from John Lewis. Granted it was more expensive than buying a couple of eggs from the supermarket but it was all I thought of at the time.

If you want to make the effort to send a card, though, it’s possible.

myBumJuiceSmellsLikeRoses · 09/04/2020 17:28

Moonpig DID close, they stopped accepting new orders while they tried to catch up, as did Funky Pigeon.
They may be open now but weren't a few days ago.

HelloDulling · 09/04/2020 17:32

Anyone in need of cards, have a look at Papier. Lovely, lovely designs, and they will post either to you or the recipient.

user1497787065 · 09/04/2020 18:03

I ordered from both Moonpig and Funky Pigeon on Monday. Both for physical cards. No excuses. I hate cards for myself and don't care whether I receive them or not but no excuse to not send a card to a four year old.

shinynewapple2020 · 09/04/2020 18:14

I've ordered a card from Moonpig today and my order was accepted.

shinynewapple2020 · 09/04/2020 18:16

Even so. I don't think people are unreasonable not sending cards. We are supposed to go out as little as possible only for essential cards. If your supermarket of choice is Lidl you probably can't purchase a card and stamp.

Shmithecat2 · 09/04/2020 18:17

YANBU OP. I've managed to sort out an Amazon gift and Moonpig card for my niece today. No excuse to not send a card at least.

Linlinds · 09/04/2020 18:43

It was mine Monday. I'm old enough to not care. My stuff arrived two days late from many people. I guess if people are scared to go in the shops and post office they might have decided that it's a fairly reasonable decision to not send one. There are other ways people can let her feel special. A phone call, a video call or a gift direct from Amazon. But it does depend on circumstances and age etc.

Its obviously not going to feel like the best birthday ever but she will still be excited and happy.i think it's us that feel it more. It's this virus robbing us all of what we normally do. Just try and blame the virus and not the people. They will love your daughter to bits but they just will be struggling to get to shops etc.

LochJessMonster · 09/04/2020 18:49

Nah YANBU, it’s not hard to send a card.
You can get them from the supermarket, local shop or even order online.
You post it on your daily exercise.

It’s a small thing that would make someone very happy on their bday.

mumof2exhausted · 09/04/2020 19:16

That’s rubbish of your family. On my sons WhatsApp group for his class at school we circulated dates and addresses for any kids with birthdays coming up so we can all post cards. We are home making cards. For my relatives (dad and sister) I’ve already ordered presents and cards from amazon prime and will drop off outside their doors on birthdays, I’ve also sent flowers to a recently bereaved friend as can’t see her. In this digital age there is no excuse.
