Have you cut your own hair or anyone else's and it has gone wrong. I did my fringe and it's now a bit wonky Grin

Brad Mondo is my favourite hairdressing youtuber just now. He recently uploaded a video showing how to do a home haircut, where to part, what not to do etc.

His reaction videos for DIY hair bleaching are very funny!

Stickybeaksid funnily enough I cut my DH's hair using no.4 clippers all over and it went really well! Never done it before and I was really nervous but once I got into it it was fine. He asked me to the neckline with no guide on so the line looks a bit severe shall we say, but he can't see that!

I however decided I would try the new L'Oreal "Bronde" dye a few years ago and forgot to mix a vital ingredient into the dye. I also couldn't see the back of my head to do the streaks properly so I ended up with a massive permanent brassy-orange block of colour at the back. Work the next day and no time to do anything about it so I stuck it in a bun the hurried to the hairdressers after work who tole me to just use a semi-permanent brown colour and it worked!

I had to trim DDog's face - it was all in his eyes, and he kept getting his beard caught in his mouth.

I won't be attempting a human anytime soon.

Sarahlou63 · 09/04/2020 10:13

I borrowed some clippers and shaved (to 1 inch) the back of my head a couple of days ago. Plucking up courage to do the top and sides today...

TheFaerieQueene · 09/04/2020 10:21

I’m not going anywhere near my hair with scissors! My fringe is fine atm and then when too long, it’s being clipped back. My hairdresser is French and I don’t want to deal with a Gallic censure - he doesn’t mince his words 🤣

Picklypickles · 09/04/2020 10:35

I'm not worried about my hair or daughters, we both have curly hair that grows pretty slowly and I wouldn't dare attempt cutting it myself! Partner doesn't really care if his hair gets long for a bit so its really only my son who gets his hair cut regularly and I hope it should be fairly straightforward for partner to use his clippers on him!

Lightofthephoenix · 09/04/2020 10:37

I did this one the other week and it worked

SweetPetrichor · 09/04/2020 10:56

I'm so glad that both myself and DP just shave our hair so the lockdown is no issue for us! One less thing to worry about! Grin

Minesacider · 09/04/2020 11:55

@Sarahlou63 What clipper guard did you use to get to 1"? I have clippers for DS, and was so tempted to use them myself...

TerrorWig · 09/04/2020 12:05

I have really curly hair and regularly trim it, but I did cut a fringe in the other day. I like it!

I REALLY want to cut my son’s hair - I watched three or four videos yesterday. All three of them have very straight hair with mad cows licks.

Having said that, I’ve got hairdressing scissors and clippers in case it all goes wrong Grin

Is love to be able to rock that look Saralou, it looks so funky.

Eminybob · 09/04/2020 12:37

I cut my 16 months olds hair but he didn’t stop wriggling and moaning so I made a right mess. There’s a big patch at the back and the fringe is too short. Plus loads of uneven bits as I gave up.
I’ve not attempted 5 yo ds’s yet but it’ll need doing soon.
Dh has said I can do his but I’m a bit scared after the ds2 debacle.

My boss came on to our zoom meeting the other day wearing his hood up. His wife had attempted a skin fade but it went wrong so he ended up with a complete skin head. He’s gutted his hair was his pride and joy Grin

motherheroic · 09/04/2020 12:43

I'm going to attempt to fade my hair today. It's already at a level 1, so not much to miss if I mess it up.

Dowser · 09/04/2020 13:17

I’m the chosen one to cut dh’s hair today
Apparently me telling him I always wanted to be a hairdresser has elevated me to the dizzy heights of senior partner of my own hair dressing business
All without training or practice .
I hope I can reward his faith in me with a suitable crop 😂
I’ve never used shears in my life either 😱

Dowser · 09/04/2020 13:20

Are they shears or clippers?
Whatever lol

Dowser · 09/04/2020 13:29

That clip was hilarious
Can they please replace scofe and booby

Dowser · 09/04/2020 17:44

Oh well...haircut 100 didn’t go too badly wrong.
It looks ok but I’m a bit miffed that should a supervisor come along with a comb and lifts up a section, they would go...sorry Dowser..you didn’t follow the line of the cut.
I can’t understand, why after going to great lengths to have a guide and follow it..you then go around and go chopping into it.

I didn’t stick to the ‘ guide lines’ ..mine got a bit choppy right from the start.
Dh is pleased and I caused him no puncture wounds so we’re good for a few weeks

TerrorWig · 09/04/2020 17:48

This thread has taken me down a rabbit hole of hair fails! Cringing my arse up to my elbow - some of them are awful.

BarkandCheese · 09/04/2020 17:51

I did the Mumsnet cut yesterday on myself, I took about three inches off and it didn’t come out too badly. The only issue is one side of the layers around my face is feathered and one is much blunter, but I’ve decided to be sensible and not dick around with it or I’ll end up with tiny little sideburns.

Cheerbear23 · 09/04/2020 17:55

I’ve done DH & DS’ with clippers. I was VERY clear, I am not a barber and I CANNOT do fades! They turned out ok on a number 2, with scissors cut through a comb on top.

LittleMissLumpy · 09/04/2020 18:00

Very tempted to undercut myself. Someone stop me.

Dowser · 09/04/2020 18:05

Dh wanted the clippers..but I felt more confident with scissors..heaven knows why.
Must admit I did like doing that bit at the nape of the neck with the clippers..got quite carried Away there ..good job he isn’t hairy backed.
He thinks it’s great.
I’m thinking ..hmm. It’s not perfect and that irks me
When it’s time to do it again..I think I might have to use clippers..bloody hard work though
I have a lot more respect for hairdressers and the time they stand on their feet

NoveltyFunsies · 09/04/2020 18:06

This is one of the times I’m glad to live with my MIL as she’s a very bored hairdresser and beautician so I may actually leave lockdown looking better than I startedGrin
