I'm not sure yet but I'll probably pay for a month and then see what other features they bring in.

Thread by Justine incase you haven't seen it

YABU = No

YANBU = Yes, I might give it a try

Oh I’m so sorry Stopcrying. Hope baby settles quickly.

It's ok it was a very near miss and worth it for such a great comment, hes back asleep thank goodness. Smile

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 09/04/2020 15:40

@canigooutyet thanks for that.

Trenzalor · 09/04/2020 15:43

I said on the site thread I couldn’t afford it and if I could I wouldn’t. I’ve had a night to think about why I wouldn’t bow and I think the charm of MN is that anyone from anywhere and any situation can post. It’s democratic and free. Think of all the people who have been helped through trauma and out of dangerous situations just by posting on this forum and receiving help and advice. I don’t want to be part of a paywalled site limited to those who have and those who have not; us paupers scooping up the crumbs that fall from the paid-for table.

Holdingmybreath · 09/04/2020 15:57

I only use it on my phone and since premium isn't available on android won't be paying.

canigooutyet · 09/04/2020 16:55

It really is an amateur kitchen table job. All these years and they still cannot work across all platforms and devices.

Really seeing the value of this sub 🤣 🤣 They should be paying posters not the other way round. Without us, chances are they would be broke nobodies.

Justmuddlingalong · 09/04/2020 16:59

Would premium members be able to open the thread they try to open? Or would random, often sponsored threads, still open instead?

UYScuti · 09/04/2020 17:03

It's not MN thats been the lifesaver though, it's the MN posters
if you and a friend sit on a park bench and have a heart to heart after which you feel much better, you dont thank the bench for it's support do you

MrsJoshNavidi · 09/04/2020 19:57

Now is the wrong time to start charging. Too many people out of work.

DameXanaduBramble · 09/04/2020 20:10

A misguided sense of their own importance. Asking for cash when times are hard is misjudged at best.

BeijingBikini · 09/04/2020 20:19

Maybe they should have saved when times were good. Where did that 570k profit even go?? It clearly hasn't gone into improving the site, which hasn't changed in years, so it must have funded a couple of Teslas and a new granite kitchen for the owner....

Strawberrycreamsundae · 09/04/2020 20:23

I received the begging email from Justine earlier; nope, it won’t persuade me to subscribe.

canigooutyet · 09/04/2020 21:07

Oh wow. That email. It’s so cringy. Love how they are taking credit for all the help and advice offered.
And are we talking about the same site? Makes our lives easier, how?

Over the next little while they will look to add features like the edit option which I’m sure was sold as a done deal.

Yea really seeing the benefits for something that doesn’t fully work and is free.

And what type of wank chat is in the next little while ffs?

EdersonsSmileyTattoo · 09/04/2020 21:49

No.

I don’t want to pay a fiver a month for an edit button that even the most basic chat based website has as standard.

I’ll just take a bit more care with my grammar etc in the first place.

Plus, after the IP address thing and the hacking I don’t trust MN with my details, other than my 3rd email address....

Viviennemary · 09/04/2020 21:56

No I don't think I will subscribe. It's a big cringey to get the begging bowl out as if they were an 18th century street corner seller with a bunch of ragged hungry children to feed. Hmmm.

HoffiCoffi13 · 09/04/2020 22:05

I just think it’s so off the mark... asking for money because they’d struggling due to COVID19, knowing full well that vast numbers of us have lost jobs, are on reduced pay, can’t operate our businesses... it’s crass.

canigooutyet · 09/04/2020 22:06

The edit button has been removed.

Over the next little while we’ll look to add some extra features folks have asked for to our Premium service: things like editing, sorting posts by the OP and reading offline.

Most of not all of it comes as standard on very basic forums for free. There is nothing new they are offering. Just updates they could have made over a decade ago, but found it strangely impossible to implement.

I’m keeping my free Adblock firmly in place for here. At least it fully blocks ads on sites I want.

MrsFogi · 09/04/2020 22:19

I've just had a look at PistonHeads - not bad, pretty user friendly I think it could be a new home for a lot of MNers. They just need to add a Feminist Chat category and it will be perfect Grin.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 09/04/2020 22:21

You can’t swear on PistonHeads, @MrsFogi - we would shock the delicate souls on there to their very core! Grin

Russellbrandshair · 09/04/2020 22:24

Absolutely not. There are plenty of other free sites that don’t expect you to pay to chat to strangers online. I think that’s completely ridiculous. There are some decent people on here but also a lot of nasty, purposefully obtuse, rude people. Why on earth would anyone pay to chat with them?!

NewtonPulsifer · 10/04/2020 01:20

Got the email today. It is still a no from me.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 10/04/2020 01:36

No

Carbosug · 10/04/2020 08:08

Yes I agree Russell.

There are some lovely interesting funny posters on here. But there's also a large swathe who seem to come on for the sole purpose of being rude, unpleasant and spiteful. They're the kind of people I'd have nothing to do with in real life so I'm certainly not going to pay to have to navigate around their sneery posts on thread after thread.

HennyPenny4 · 10/04/2020 08:23

Yes just done it. My magazine subscription is much higher than this and my newspaper, as I spend more time on Mn than either of those it's a bit stingey to refuse to pay for Mn.

Also its where I get any feminist news - would hate to be without that.

iano · 10/04/2020 08:29

No from me. I was using a test version of the app and without a word it got pulled and I then got that email.
On that basis I think the features will be more than just the edit button....
I still can't justify it though and am finding MN in lockdown full of self righteous idiots.
Maybe this will help break the habit.
